Evidences of extragalactic origin and planet engulfment in the metal-poor twin pair HD 134439/HD 134440

Recent studies of chemical abundances in metal-poor Halo stars show the existence of different populations, which is important for studies of Galaxy formation and evolution. Here we revisit the twin pair of chemically anomalous stars HD 134439 and HD 134440, using high resolution (R $\sim 72 000$) and high S/N ratio (S/N $\sim 250$) HDS/Subaru spectra. We compare them to the well-studied Halo star HD 103095, using the line-by-line differential technique to estimate precise stellar parameters and LTE chemical abundances. We present the abundances of C, O, Na, Mg, Si, Ca, Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, Y, Ba, La, Ce, Nd, and Sm. We compare our results to the precise abundance patterns of Nissen & Schuster (2010) and data from dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies (dSphs). We show that the abundance pattern of these stars appears to be closely linked to that of dSphs with [$\alpha$/Fe] knee below [Fe/H] $<-1.5$. We also find a systematic difference of $0.06\pm0.01$ dex between the abundances of these twin binary stars, which could be explained by the engulfment of a planet, thus suggesting that planet formation is possible at low metallicities ([Fe/H]=$-1.4$).Comment: Published in MNRA

Outer Versus Inner Halo Globular Clusters: NGC 7492 Abundances

We have carried out a detailed abundance analysis for 21 elements in a sample of four RGB stars in the outer halo globular cluster NGC 7492 (R_(GC) 25 kpc); we find [Fe/H] = -1.82 dex inferred from Fe Ilines (-1.79 from Fe II) using high-dispersion (R = λ/Δλ = 35,000) spectra obtained with HIRES at the Keck Observatory. Most elements show no sign of star-to-star variation within our limited sample. We have, however, detected an anticorrelation between O and Na abundances similar to that seen in our previous analyses of inner halo GCs as well as in studies of relatively nearby GCs by others. We compare the abundance ratios in NGC 7492 with those we previously determined for the much closer old halo GCs M3 and M13. After making corrections for trends of abundance ratio with metallicity characteristic of halo stars, we find that for these three GCs, for each of the elements in common we deduce identical abundance ratios with respect to Fe to within the probable measurement uncertainties. Thus, the chemical history of the outer halo as exemplified by the metal-poor outer halo globular cluster NGC 7492 is indistinguishable from that of the inner halo, exemplified by M3 and M13, at least through the epoch of formation of these old globular clusters. This applies to the neutron capture processes as well

The influence of glazing over the parameters and energy rating according to the building orientation and the façade openings percentages

Es bien conocida la importancia de los cristales en la demanda de energía del edificio, ya que la envolvente térmica es lo más importante. En este trabajo se ha realizado un estudio de la influencia de la transmitancia térmica (factor U) y el factor solar (valor g) de tres tipos diferentes de acristalamiento en la calificación energética. Se ha realizado el análisis en una vivienda unifamiliar situada en la ciudad de Sevilla, España, con diferentes hipótesis, en concreto seis porcentajes de apertura que van desde 10 a 60% considerado por el Código Técnico de la Edificación español, y cuatro orientaciones según las direcciones cardinales. Para los tipos de zona climático y acristalamiento considerados, el valor del parámetro g tiene mayor incidencia en el rendimiento energético que la transmitancia térmica. Se ha establecido qué orientación proporciona mayor ahorro de energía, independientemente de la demanda de calefacción y enfriamiento y de la calificación energética. Además, hay que considerar los valores ideales de ambos parámetros para cada orientación con el fin de mejorar la calificación energética. Por lo tanto, al seleccionar un tipo de acristalamiento, sería importante tener en cuenta los mejores valores de los parámetros "T" y "g" para cada orientación con el fin de obtener menor gasto de energía.It is well known the significant impact of glazing over the building energy demand making it the thermal envelope’s most important part. A study of the influence of thermal transmittance (U-factor) and solar factor (g-value) of three different glazing types over the parameters and energy rating are shown in this paper. A single-family dwelling located in Seville city, Spain, has been analyzed to which a set of hypotheses, six opening percentages ranging from 10 to 60% considered by the Spanish Building Code on its simplified option, and different combinations, four orientations matching the cardinal directions, has been applied. For the climate zone and glazing types considered, the g-value parameter has a higher incidence on the global demand and energy rating than thermal transmittance. It is established which orientation greater energy savings can be achieved independently for heating, cooling demand and energy rating. Also the ideal values for both parameters that should be considered in each orientation in order to improve the energy rating. Therefore, when selecting a type of glazing it would be important to consider the best “U” and “g” parameter values together for each orientation in order to get the lowest energy demand possible

Lithium depletion in solar analogs: age and mass effects

The main goal of this work is to evaluate the correlation between Li abundance, age, and mass. Using high-quality ESO/HARPS data (R $\simeq$ 115 000; 270 $\leq$ SNR $\leq$ 1000), we measured Li abundances via spectral synthesis of the 6707.8 \r{A} $^7$Li line in 74 solar twins and analogs. Our joint analysis of 151 Sun-like stars (72 from our sample plus 79 solar twins from a previous study) confirms the strong Li abundance-age correlation reported by other works. Mass and convective envelope size also seem to be connected with Li abundance but with lower significance. We have found a link between the presence of planets and low Li abundances in a sample of 192 stars with a high significance. Our results agree qualitatively with non-standard models, and indicate that several extra transport mechanisms must be taken into account to explain the behaviour of Li abundance for stars with different masses and ages.Comment: 10 pages, 15 figures, to appear in MNRA

Nuclear Factor-kappa B as a Resistance Factor to Platinum-Based Antineoplasic Drugs

Platinum drugs continue to be major chemotherapy drugs for cancer treatment. Nevertheless, acquired or intrinsic resistance to these compounds is common in human tumors. One important mechanism for this resistance is the avoidance of cells entering the apoptotic pathway. Nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B, NF-κB) is a pleiotropic transcription factor key in determining the death threshold of human cells. This factor is important in the final response of cells to platinum drugs, as exemplified by in vitro and in vivo models showing that inhibition of NF-κB sensitizes cancer cells to the effects of these drugs. New approaches focusing on the inhibition of NF-κB could help to minimize or even eliminate intrinsic or acquired resistance to platinum drugs

La culpa y el remordimiento, generados a partir de problemas reproductivos, se presentan tanto en la esterilidad como en la pérdida gestacional recurrente; ambos sentimientos, componentes de la estructura psíquica, pueden coexistir como una expresión normal de la afectividad; el remordimiento cumple la función de regular las relacionescon las personas y el entorno, mientras que la culpa, debido a su origen simbólico, puede generar sufrimiento en la persona. Solo a partir de la autorreflexión, resultado de la psicoterapia, la culpa y el remordimiento pueden desplazarse hacia la autorregulación y responsabilidad, como expresiones normales del comportamiento

The article addresses the relationship between photography and the press during the beginnings of the revolutionary government in the city of Chihuahua. It analyzes the possible dialogues between the anti reelection newspapers El Correo and El Padre Padilla, and the local photographic production. It reveals the links and tensions between journalists Silvestre Terrazas, José Reyes Estrada, Adolfo Fuentes Gámez y Rafael Martínez (nicknamed Rip-Rip) with some photographers, such as Ignacio Medrano Chávez (known as “El Gran Lente”). Lastly it reflects on the anti reelection press and photography as relevant factors in the displacement of public opinion during the social events of the 1911 revolution.El artículo aborda la relación entre la fotografía y la prensa durante los inicios del gobierno revolucionario en la ciudad de Chihuahua, al norte de México. Se examinan los posibles diálogos entre los periódicos antirreeleccionistas El Correo y El Padre Padilla, y la producción fotográfica local. Se develan los vínculos y tensiones entre los periodistas Silvestre Terrazas, José Reyes Estrada, Adolfo Fuentes Gámez y Rafael Martínez, apodado Rip-Rip, y los fotógrafos locales, como Ignacio Medrano Chávez, conocido como El Gran Lente.
