Challenges for ecolabeling growth: lessons from the EU Ecolabel in Spain
Purpose The European Ecolabel (EU Flower) has the mission to encourage cleaner production and influence consumers to promote Europe's transition to a circular economy. Nonetheless, little is known about EU Ecolabel evolution; it is not clear what the drivers that encourage its implementation are. Thus, this study aims to assess the growing acceptance of the EU Ecolabel in the European Union, and Spain more specifically, by examining product and service categories and geographical regions. Methods The methodological approach taken in this study is a mixed methodology based on the triangulation method by consulting the EU Ecolabel scheme database, EU Ecolabel delegates from some autonomous regions, and the academic literature. Also, a geographic analysis was run in the ArcGIS Software with data about the accumulation of licenses assigned in 2016. Results and discussion The analysis shows that most products in Spain that have been awarded the EU Ecolabel belong to the following categories: Do-It-Yourself Products (paint and varnish), Paper Products, Cleaning Up Products, and Electronic Equipment. At the same time, the study showed that this ecolabel faces significant obstacles in its diffusion, such as the competition with environmental labels launched previously in Europe and other regional labels. Conclusions The results of this study indicate the existence of five drivers that may encourage the implementation of EU Flower in a region: (1) public management, (2) communication strategy, (3) sustainable public procurement criteria, (4) local income per capita, and (5) international trade incentives. Finally, this study provides essential recommendations for policymakers to trigger ecolabeling practices such as the need to improve the understanding of the EU ecolabel impact in different levels of activity, which means countries, regions, industrial clusters, firms, and consumers. Also, this investigation identifies areas for further research, and it expresses the need to develop business case studies about ecolabeling with the objective to visualize this phenomenon as an eco-innovation process
The role of Business Associations as drivers of strategic management of innovation
Traditionally, business associations have been representatives of the interests of companies. Additionally, they have become coordinators of business activity and facilitators of the flow of information in the industry. Currently, the associations go further, they are developing a new role as innovation intermediaries for their affiliated companies. This work, although very valuable is not evident, therefore, they suffer from invisibility for business and academic organizations. Consequently, this doctoral thesis aims to deepen the study of the role of associations as key agents of the processes of open and collaborative innovation in business ecosystems, that is denominated innovation intermediation.
In order to meet this challenge, we developed an Action Research project with three phases that comprise the articulation of a theoretical framework, and two fieldworks with a group of associations from the community of Navarra (northern Spain).
In the first phase, we present a robust theoretical framework on the strategic, innovation and creativity aspects that surround the dynamics of associations as innovation intermediaries. Likewise, we clarify the fundamental concepts of associations as organizations of a social and economic nature. Finally, we describe their new role as facilitators of the strategic innovation of companies in the industrial sectors.
In the second phase, we designed and applied a survey of 21 business associations, which allowed us to define their innovation intermediation functions, the types of innovation they tend to promote among their companies, and their dynamic capacities for innovation intermediation. Subsequently, we performed a cluster analysis to propose a typology of business associations.
Finally, as a result of the previous findings, in the third phase we carried out an interactive and participative work with managers from 16 associations that allowed us to propose a Maturity Model of Innovation Intermediation Capacity, and also to propose the concept of business associations as Communities of Collaborative Innovation

Estado de salud bucal y factores relacionados en mujeres en situación de prostitución en Medellín (Colombia) / Oral health status and its related factors in a group of women in situation of prostitution in Medellín (Colombia)
RESUMEN. Antecedentes: Se requiere analizar la situación de salud bucal en grupos vulnerables desde la perspectiva de los determinantes sociales para establecer estrategias de intervención efectivas. Objetivo: Describir el estado de salud bucal y factores relacionados en un grupo de mujeres en situación de prostitución en la ciudad de Medellín (Colombia). Métodos: Este fue un estudio descriptivo en una muestra por conveniencia de 53 mujeres que ejercen la prostitución. Se aplicó encuesta y examen clínico y se analizaron variables de autopercepción de salud bucal, índice COP-D (cariados, obturados y perdidos), índice de caries significativa (SiC), problemas de articulación temporomandibular (ATM) y estado protésico. Resultados: 88,2 % de las mujeres encuestadas reportaron un mal estado de salud bucal, 81 % se sentían insatisfechas con su estado bucal y 60 % reportó problemas bucales. La prevalencia de caries dental fue del 64 %, con un COP-D de 15,6 (±8,4), y un SiC de 25,5 (±3,6). Se presentaron diferencias en el estado de salud bucal en indicadores clínicos y subjetivos según factores sociodemográficos. Más de tres cuartas partes requerían cambia o realizar nuevas prótesis superiores o inferiores. En casi la mitad se hallaron ruidos articulares en la ATM según evaluación clínica. Conclusiones: El estado de salud bucal según los indicadores analizados es reflejo de las condiciones sociales en que se encuentran estas mujeres. Se encontraron diferencias en los indicadores de salud bucal de acuerdo con diferentes factores sociodemográficos, lo cual sugiere la influencia de los determinantes sociales en las desigualdades en salud bucal.ABSTRACT. Background: The analysis of the oral health situation in vulnerable groups from a perspective of social determinants is required to implement effective intervention strategies. Purpose: To describe the oral health status and its related factors in a group of women in situation of prostitution in Medellín (Colombia). Methods: A descriptive study was conducted with a convenience sample of 53 women. A survey and clinical examination was carried out. The study analyzed variables related to self-perceived oral health, DTMF Index, Significant Caries Index (SiC), temporomandibular joint problems (TMJ), and the status of fixed/removable prosthesis. Results: 88.2 % of the surveyed women reported their oral health status was poor, 81 % of them felt unsatisfied with their mouth, and 60 % reported oral problems. The prevalence of dental caries was 64 %, with a DTMF of 15.6 (± 8.4), and a SiC of 25.5 (± 3.6). There were differences in oral health status in clinical and subjective indicators according to sociodemographic factors. More than three-quarters required changing or making new upper and/or lower partial or fixed dentures. In almost half, articular noises were found in TMJ according to the clinical evaluation. Conclusions: The oral health status, from the basis of the indicators analyzed, reflects the social conditions found in these women. Differences in the oral health indicators were in accordance to sociodemographic factors. This situation suggests that there is an influence of social determinants on oral health inequalities
