Approximate Symmetry Analysis of a Class of Perturbed Nonlinear Reaction-Diffusion Equations

In this paper, the problem of approximate symmetries of a class of non-linear reaction-diffusion equations called Kolmogorov-Petrovsky-Piskounov (KPP) equation is comprehensively analyzed. In order to compute the approximate symmetries, we have applied the method which was proposed by Fushchich and Shtelen [8] and fundamentally based on the expansion of the dependent variables in a perturbation series. Particularly, an optimal system of one dimensional subalgebras is constructed and some invariant solutions corresponding to the resulted symmetries are obtained.Comment: 14 page

*Objective:* The aim of this study was to determine the gender differential in the relationship of body mass index (BMI) and abdominal obesity with blood pressure (BP) and prevalence of hypertension (HTN) and prehypertension (Pre-HTN) among the adult population of Iran.

*Design:* A nationwide cross-sectional survey was conducted from December 2004 to February 2005. The selection was conducted by stratified probability cluster sampling through household family members in Iran.

*Subjects and Measurements:* Weight, height, waist circumference (WC), and systolic and diastolic BP of 45,082 men and 44,322 women aged 15-65 (mean 39.2) were measured.

*Results:* The prevalence of HTN was 25.2% in men and 24.8% in women; and 50.1% of men and 39.1% of women were pre-hypertensive. WC and BMI were strongly associated with BP in both genders. Multivariate analysis revealed that both WC and BMI had the stronger association with HTN and Pre-HTN in men than women. Compared to men and women with normal weight, the multivariate-adjusted odds ratio (OR) (95% confidence interval) of HTN was 5.75 (5.13, 6.44) for men and 4.29 (3.95, 4.66) for women with BMI ≥ 30. The multivariate OR of prevalence HTN in men with abdominal obesity compared with men without was 3.76 (3.41, 4.22) and in women, 2.92 (2.73, 3.13).

*Conclusion:* These data indicate that both BMI and WC had the stronger association with HTN and Pre-HTN in men than women.

Analysis of Network Coding in a Slotted ALOHA-based Two-Way Relay Network

    Get PDF
This paper deals with a two-way relay network (TWRN) based on a slotted ALOHA protocol which utilizes network coding to exchange the packets. We proposed an analytical approach to study the behavior of such networks and the effects of network coding on the throughput, power, and queueing delay of the relay node. In addition, when end nodes are not saturated, our approach enables us to achieve the stability region of the network in different situations. Finally, we carry out some simulation to confirm the validity of the proposed analytical approach

Topical latanoprost does not cause macular thickening after uncomplicated cataract surgery.

PurposeTo explore changes in central macular thickness (CMT) after a two-month period of glaucoma therapy with topical latanoprost after uneventful phacoemulsification.MethodsForty-one eyes of 31 patients with primary open angle or pseudoexfoliative glaucoma who required glaucoma medications after cataract surgery were prospectively enrolled. All eyes had undergone uneventful phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation at least 4 months before initiation of latanoprost. After a complete ophthalmic examination, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and fluorescein angiography (FA) were performed at baseline before starting latanoprost. All eyes received latanoprost for 2 months, and clinical examinations were repeated one and two months afterwards; OCT and FA were repeated after 2 months. Outcome measures were CMT and loss of more than 2 lines of best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).ResultsMean patient age was 71.6±7.8 years. Intraocular pressure decreased from 21.5±3.4 mmHg to 14.4±2.6 mmHg (p<0.001) at 2 months. None of the eyes developed reduction of BCVA exceeding 2 lines, or angiographic cystoid macular edema (CME). Likewise no significant change was noted in CMT (249.9±29.8 vs 248.8±30.7µm), average macular thickness (274.5±15.0 vs 273.8±17.0µm), or macular volume (9.6±1.0 vs 9.6±1.1µm2) after treatment as compared to baseline (P>0.05 for all comparisons).ConclusionTopical use of latanoprost later than 4 months after uncomplicated cataract surgery does not seem to predispose to increased macular thickness or CME and may safely be used in this setting

The Toxicity of Synthetic and Biogenic Selenium Nanoparticles on Human Brain Glioblastoma Cell Line: An in vitro Comparison

Background: Brain tumors can be serious and life-threatening when they are treated effectively. Many therapeutic approaches, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery have been used to treat brain tumors. In this regard, selenium supplements have been reported effective. Methods: Selenium Nanoparticles (SeNPs) were produced in two forms of synthetic and biogenic to evaluate their cytotoxicity on brain glioblastoma cell lines. A-172 cell line was cultured in DMEM medium. The cytotoxicity of the synthetic and biogenic SeNP was assessed by MTT assay. Results: There was a significant difference between the group treated with biogenic and synthetic SeNP compared with non-treated cells after 24, 48, and 72 h. Both biogenic and synthetic SeNP increased Bax gene and decreased Bcl-2 gene expression. Conclusion: It seems that biogenic SeNP was more lethal than its synthetic form. Therefore, it should be considered that the method of NP construction may be an important parameter for its bioactivity

Economic development in countries depends on implementing of infrastructural projects and services, furthermore, increasing efficiency and quality of offered services are of its purposes. Mention this fact that in developing countries finding the financial source is one of the main challenges that often faced up, cooperating with private sectors seems more important from day to day. The cooperative styles vary due to each project specific condition. In current research, the compilation of constructing types and financial recourse, briefly discussed in base of implementing and financing captive methods, then with mentioning the legal limitation and specific conditions in our country, the appropriate methods in different projects including oil and gas, petro chemistry and water resources are revealed. Finally, essential conditions and characteristics of these offered corporations were expanded on, for using them efficiently to provide the essential fundamental by private resources that lead to economic development and improvement

Introduction: Hypospadias is a common pediatric surgical procedure. Early postoperative pain management is essential to inhibit pain impulses and endocrine responses; leading to decreased mortality and morbidity and lower rate of agitation and faster return to normal functional status. This study evaluates the analgesic efficacy of bupivacaine alone versus bupivacaine plus dexmedetomidine in penile block for hypospadias surgery.Materials and Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 64 children undergoing hypospadias surgery in a referral center in Tehran, Iran during 2018 were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive either bupivacaine 0.25% alone 0.2 ml/kg or bupivacaine 0.25% 0.2 ml/kg plus dexmedetomidine 0.3 μg/kg. After performing penile block, reversion of anesthesia was carried out and patients were extubated after regaining complete consciousness. Patients were monitored for 24 hours for pain according to FLACC scale and also the analgesia and block duration was determined. Results: Mean analgesia duration was 2.63±0.9 and 2.03±0.5 hours in the combination group and alone group respectively which was significant (P=0.003). The mean duration of block was significantly longer in the combination group (P=0.001).Conclusions: According to the results it may be concluded that addition of dexmedetomidine to bupivacaine in hypospadias surgeries would result in longer analgesia and block duration; without addition of adverse effects
