The educational technique of ‘meaning-oriented reflection’ originally highlights two angles ‘thinking’ and ‘feeling’, prior to ‘wanting’ and ‘doing’. This article emphasises that due to differences among world-philosophies, an additional third angle on ‘being inspired’ by a higher power is applicable. Bringing these three angles into ‘being aware’ precedes ‘wanting’ and ‘doing’. Based on interviews and higher educational interventions, the revised ‘meaning-oriented reflection’ appears to be a useful educational technique. Spacing of Repetitions and Contextual Interference Effects in Motor Skill Learning.

Three experiments are reported that examined the possibility that the contextual interference effect in motor skill learning is a variation of a multiple trial spacing of repetitions effect. Specifically, the question why a non-spaced condition in a spacing of multiple trials motor learning paradigm has not produced predicted retention deficits. Subjects in all experiments learned to perform a simple motor skill in a criterion movement time. Experiments 1 and 2 examined why spacing of multiple trials did not produce expected retention performance benefits in previous spacing experiments. The results of Experiment 1 and 2 showed that the randomness of the practice schedule and difficulty of the task were not related to the lack of retention benefits. In Experiment 3 the question when retention performance deficits might occur was addressed. This experiment replicated the contextual interference effect reported in the literature and showed that this phenomenon may be uniquely different from the spacing of multiple trials effect. The results of this experiment suggest that the retention performance of subjects in the blocked control condition in the contextual interference paradigm may suffer from interference experienced during the acquisition trials. When the retention test is given seems to partially determine the subjects\u27 performance. The consequences for a reconstruction hypothesis as an explanation of the contextual interference effect are also discussed

Quality assurance for the optimization of patient dose in interventional radiology

Drie maatregelen kunnen de dosis straling optimaliseren die patienten ontvangen tijdens radiologische interventies. Ten eerste moderne apparatuur gebruiken die speciaal geschikt is voor interventies. Ten tweede extra aandacht schenken aan stralingsbescherming tijdens opleidingen op het gebied van de interventieradiologie. En tot slot complicaties van straling opnemen in het complicatieregister van de sectie Interventieradiologie van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor Radiologie. Dit blijkt uit onderzoek dat het RIVM in opdracht van de Inspectie voor de Gezondheidszorg heeft uitgevoerd naar de kwaliteitsborging van de interventieradiologie in Nederland. De opdracht is ingegeven door de relatief hoge stralingsdosis waaraan patienten kunnen worden blootgesteld tijdens radiologische interventies. Bij interventieradiologie worden medische behandelingen uitgevoerd via een kleine opening in de huid, terwijl die ingreep in beeld wordt gebracht met behulp van rontgen, CT, MRI of echografie. Bij gebruik van rontgen of CT kan de stralingsdosis leiden tot nadelige effecten voor de gezondheid, zoals roodheid, verbranding van de huid, (tijdelijke) ontharing of op de lange termijn kanker.Three measures may optimize the radiation dose that patients receive during interventional radiology procedures. The first is by using modern equipment that is appropriate for interventional radiology procedures, while the second involves paying extra attention to radiation protection in courses in the field of interventional radiology. A final measure is to incorporate radiation-related complications into the complication register of the Interventional Radiology section of the Dutch Association for Radiology. This was found in an investigation of quality assurance in interventional radiology in the Netherlands that was assigned to RIVM by the Dutch Health Inspectorate. The investigation was motivated by the relatively high radiation dose that patients undergoing an interventional radiology procedure may be exposed to. In interventional radiology, medical treatment is applied through a small opening in the skin, while the procedure is monitored using medical imaging such as X-ray, CT, MRI or ultrasound. Verkenning Europese versie van de website www.daarmoetikzijn.nl

In Europa wordt het landschap steeds belangrijker. Er wordt op allerlei manieren onderzoek gedaan naar wensen die mensen hebben voor de leef- of recreatieomgeving. Vaak in de vorm van (dure) enquêtes. Een nieuwe methode via het principe van ”first give, then ask and save” is in Nederland succesvol toegepast met de website www.daarmoetikzijn.nl. Een Europese versie van de website daarmoetikzijn kan de preferenties van Europeanen voor landschappen onderzoeken. Er is een verkenning uitgevoerd om te onderzoeken welke Europese GIS-data er zijn en of deze data gebruikt mogen worden. Ook is onderzocht of het technisch mogelijk is om met een acceptabele resolutie en tijd een kaartje van Europa te genereren met daarop de weergave van de gepersonaliseerde landschapsvoorkeuren. Er is een demonstratie-applicatie gebouwd met een klein aantal landschapskenmerken. Het blijkt mogelijk te zijn om binnen 3 seconden een kaartje te genereren met een voldoende hoge resolutie
