    In Vitro Interaction Between Oral Hypoglycemic Drug And Herbal Sex Stimulants: Drug Interactions

    Sexual dysfunction is a common, underappreciated complication of diabetes. Male sexual dysfunction among diabetic patients can include disorders of libido, ejaculatory problems, and erectile dysfunction (ED). All three forms of male dysfunction can cause significant bother for diabetic patients and can affect their quality of life. Diabetic patients take oral hypoglycemic drug to control their diabetic as well as take herbal sex stimulants to control to increase the libido. The combined use of herbs and drugs has increased the possibility of herb-drug interactions. The study was undertaken to explore the herb-drug interactions. To investigate the herbdrug interactions an in vitro dissolution study in different simulated pH medium were performed. In this study gliclazide containing tablet of 80mg as oral hypoglycemic drug and different herbal sex stimulants available in local market were used. The release mechanism was explored and explained with zero order, first order and Higuchi equations to identify drug interaction. Higher percentage release of gliclazide was found at simulated phosphate buffer of pH 7.4 compared to gastric medium of pH 1.2 and also in presence of herbal sex stimulants. Increased release pattern of gliclazide by concomitant administration of herbal sex stimulants gives slightly higher absorption, which gives the indication of herb-drug interactions

    A Collaborative Federated Learning Framework for Lung and Colon Cancer Classifications

    Lung and colon cancers are common types of cancer with significant fatality rates. Early identification considerably improves the odds of survival for those suffering from these diseases. Histopathological image analysis is crucial for detecting cancer by identifying morphological anomalies in tissue samples. Regulations such as the HIPAA and GDPR impose considerable restrictions on the sharing of sensitive patient data, mostly because of privacy concerns. Federated learning (FL) is a promising technique that allows the training of strong models while maintaining data privacy. The use of a federated learning strategy has been suggested in this study to address privacy concerns in cancer categorization. To classify histopathological images of lung and colon cancers, this methodology uses local models with an Inception-V3 backbone. The global model is then updated on the basis of the local weights. The images were obtained from the LC25000 dataset, which consists of five separate classes. Separate analyses were performed for lung cancer, colon cancer, and their combined classification. The implemented model successfully classified lung cancer images into three separate classes with a classification accuracy of 99.867%. The classification of colon cancer images was achieved with 100% accuracy. More significantly, for the lung and colon cancers combined, the accuracy reached an impressive 99.720%. Compared with other current approaches, the proposed framework showed an improved performance. A heatmap, visual saliency map, and GradCAM were generated to pinpoint the crucial areas in the histopathology pictures of the test set where the models focused in particular during cancer class predictions. This approach demonstrates the potential of federated learning to enhance collaborative efforts in automated disease diagnosis through medical image analysis while ensuring patient data privacy

    A Review on Brain Tumor Segmentation Based on Deep Learning Methods with Federated Learning Techniques

    Brain tumors have become a severe medical complication in recent years due to their high fatality rate. Radiologists segment the tumor manually, which is time-consuming, error-prone, and expensive. In recent years, automated segmentation based on deep learning has demonstrated promising results in solving computer vision problems such as image classification and segmentation. Brain tumor segmentation has recently become a prevalent task in medical imaging to determine the tumor location, size, and shape using automated methods. Many researchers have worked on various machine and deep learning approaches to determine the most optimal solution using the convolutional methodology. In this review paper, we discuss the most effective segmentation techniques based on the datasets that are widely used and publicly available. We also proposed a survey of federated learning methodologies to enhance global segmentation performance and ensure privacy. A comprehensive literature review is suggested after studying more than 100 papers to generalize the most recent techniques in segmentation and multi-modality information. Finally, we concentrated on unsolved problems in brain tumor segmentation and a client-based federated model training strategy. Based on this review, future researchers will understand the optimal solution path to solve these issues

    Legumes in conservation agriculture: A sustainable approach in rice-based ecology of the Eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain of South Asia − an overview

    Legumes in Conservation Agriculture (CA) have the potential to increase crop productivity and sustainability of the rice-based system. However, there is limited information available on the importance of legume crops in CA in the rice-based system of the Eastern Indo-Gangetic Plain (EIGP). Rice-based cropping is the mainstay of the people in Bangladesh, on the EIGP. These systems are the major food supplier to the region. In addition, they provide income and employment opportunities to the majority of people in the region. However, the system is facing unprecedented challenges and increased risk due to water, energy, labour and capital scarcity, which are exaggerated due to the effects of climate change. This could be further aggravated by deteriorating soil health, depleting underground water, and reduced land and water productivity which ultimately threaten sustainable food production and food security of the EIGP. Hence, sustainable crop intensification is essential, but increasing cropping intensity has reduced the yield of single crops by degrading soil properties. To address these constraints, Conservation Agriculture (CA), with a minimum tillage system, residue retention and crop diversification with legumes, could be an effective approach for improving crop productivity while sustaining the natural resources in intensive rice-based systems of EIGP. The addition of legumes in crop rotation is a suitable technique for crop diversification due to its multiple benefits related to soil health and natural resources. Diverse legume crops involving rice-based cropping exist at different agro-ecological zones in Bangladesh, and their rotation definitely could act a major role in promoting the CA in rice-based systems. Legume-based rotation offers multiple benefits, such as biological nitrogen fixation, improves soil pores through the deep root system, P-availability, soil fertility and enhanced nutrient cycling, and reducing the use of external input and thereby minimizing greenhouse gas emission and groundwater pollution, improving water productivity, and minimizes diseases and pest incidence. As a result, crop rotation with legumes has a high potential for CA and sustainable rice-based cropping systems in Bangladesh. The gaps between legume and non-legume crops in CA for each parameter suggest a noteworthy possibility for the improvement of rice-based systems in EIGP. This review suggests further sustainability improvements can be achieved through future field research focused on the inclusion of legume crops in the diverse rice-based systems under CA

    Effect of Combination of Natural Dyes and the Blocking Layer on the Performance of DSSC

    Over the years, researchers have been working on replacing sensitized dye for dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC), because of its low production cost, biodegradability, and non-toxicity. However, the overall performance of natural dye-based DSSCs is low compared to the DSSCs sensitized with Ruthenium based dyes. The combination of natural dyes with an optimized choice of the extracting solvents and the proper volume ratio of mixture of the dyes, enhances inherent properties, such as absorption and adsorption of the dyes. It also allows the device to utilize photon energy more efficiently over the entire visible wavelength. As a result, DSSC sensitized with the dye mixture shows higher absorbance, and cumulative absorption properties over the whole visible region than the DSSC fabricated with individual dyes and showed higher photocurrent. Another effective way to improve cell efficiency is by using a blocking layer. The blocking layer increases the photocurrent, is mainly due to the improvement of the electron recombination at the transparent conducting oxide/electrolyte interfaces. Also, the blocking layer’s compact structure creates an effective pathway for electron transportation; thus, the device’s photocurrent increases. Additionally, a slight improvement in the open-circuit voltage and fill factor was observed, thus cell efficiency enhances significantly. By both the proper ratio of dye mixture and the blocking layer improves cell performance of DSSC and opens a new pathway for future studies

    GENETSKA STRUKTURA POPULACIJA UGROŽENOG CIPRINIDA Labeo calbasu (HAMILTON, 1822) ISTRAŽENA POMOĆU MIKROSATELITSKIH MARKERA

    The population genetic structure of kalibaus Labeo calbasu collected from four wild and a hatchery population was studied using microsatellite DNA marker analysis. Five heterologous microsatellite markers (Lr10, Lr21, Lr24, Lr26 and CcatG1) developed from rohu (Labeo rohita) and catla (Gibelion catla) were analyzed to test the genetic variability of kalibaus stocks. The number of alleles observed in the loci ranged from 2-10. The loci were found to be polymorphic (<P95) in all the populations. The average numbers of possessed alleles were higher by the four wild stocks than the hatchery stock. The average number of allele was the highest in the Jamuna population (5.8) and the least in the Hatchery population (4.8). The observed average heterozygosity (Ho) in the Jamuna population (0.776) was the highest followed by the Halda (0.667), the Haor (0.661) and the Padma (0.642) populations. Except loci Lr10 and Lr24 in the Halda and locus Lr10 in the Padma and Hatchery populations, significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE) were detected in all cases. The FST values and the Nm values indicated high level of differentiation and a low level of gene flow between the populations. The largest genetic distance value (D = 0.543) was measured between the Jamuna and the Hatchery populations while the least value (D =0.124) was observed between the Padma and the Halda populations. The estimated genetic population structure and potential applications of microsatellite markers may assist the proper management of kalibaus populations in the wild.Genetska struktura populacija ciprinida Labeo calbasu, prikupljena od četiri divlje i jedne uzgajane populacije, proučavana je koristeći mikrosatelitske markere. Pet heterogenih mikrosatelitskih markera (Lr10, Lr21, Lr24, Lr26 i CcatG1) sastavljenih za indijske ciprinide su proučavani da bi se istražila genetska varijabilnost L. calbasu populacija. Broj uočenih alela u lokusu se kretao od 2 do 10. U proučavanim populacijama lokusi su bili polimorfni (<P95). Prosječan broj alela je bio veći kod divljih nego kod uzgajanih populacija. Prosječan broj alela je bio najveći u Jamuna populaciji (5.8), te najmanji u uzgajanoj populaciji (4.8). Uočena prosječna heterozigotnost (Ho) u Jamuna populaciji (0.776) bila je najveća, slijedile su je populacije Halda (0.667), Haor (0.661) i Padma (0.642). Izuzev lokusa Lr10 i Lr24 u populaciji Halda i lokusa Lr10 u Padma populaciji i uzgajanoj populaciji, zabilježeno je značajno odstupanje od Hardy-Weinbergovog zakona ravnoteže (HWE) u svim slučajevima. Vrijednosti FST i Nm ukazuju na visok stupanj diferencijacije i nizak stupanj protoka gena između populacija.     Verrucous Carcinoma in External Auditory Canal – A Rare Case

    Verrucous carcinoma is a variant of squamous cell carcinoma. It is of low grade malignancy and rarely present with distant metastasis. Oral cavity is the commonest site of this tumour, other sites are larynx, oesophagus and genitalia. Verrucous carcinoma in external auditory canal is extremely rare. This is the presentation of a 45 years old woman who came to the ENT & Head Neck Surgery department of Delta medical college, Dhaka, Bangladesh with discharging left ear and impairment of hearing on the same side for 7 years. Otoscopic examination showed a mass occupying almost whole of the external auditory canal and the overlying skin was thickened, papillary and blackish. Cytology from external auditory canal scrap showed hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis. External auditory canal bone was found eroded at some parts. Excision of the mass was done under microscope. Split thickness skin grafting was done in external auditory canal. The mass was diagnosed as verrucous carcinoma on histopathological examination. Afterwards she was given radiotherapy. Six months follow up showed no recurrence and healthy epithelialization of external auditory canal
