Midlatitude Pi2 pulsations: AFGL and ISEE magnetometer observations correlated
The ISEE observations of the pi2 magnetic pulsations occuring substorm onset in the inner magnetosphere are discussed. One of these events which was also detected as a pi2 event by the AFGL midlatitude magnetometers is considered. The event occurred when the foot of the ISEE field line was over North America. The ground and satellite signals are remarkably similar: they start and stop at the same time, have the same period and can be correlated cycle by cycle. The waves are detected in the electric field data from ISEE 1 and in the magnetic field data from both ISEE 1 and ISEE 2. Calculation of the Poynting vector at ISEE 1 shows that the energy flowed mainly westward, but that there was also a component towards the nearer (southern) ionospheric foot of the field line. The phases between the various field components measured by ISEE 1 and 2 indicate that this is a standing hydromagnetic oscillation
Phase Diagrams of Quasispecies Theory with Recombination and Horizontal Gene Transfer
We consider how transfer of genetic information between individuals
influences the phase diagram and mean fitness of both the Eigen and the
parallel, or Crow-Kimura, models of evolution. In the absence of genetic
transfer, these physical models of evolution consider the replication and point
mutation of the genomes of independent individuals in a large population. A
phase transition occurs, such that below a critical mutation rate an
identifiable quasispecies forms. We generalize these models of quasispecies
evolution to include horizontal gene transfer. We show how transfer of genetic
information changes the phase diagram and mean fitness and introduces

Do Job, Age, and Place of Residence Matter for Gaming Activity? A Study of the Mid-Colorado River Communities
A household survey in the mid-Colorado River communities of Laughlin, Nevada and Bullhead City, Arizona examined local residents\u27 gaming activities. A censored regression analysis distinguished between factors affecting gaming participation versus expenditures. Results suggest that gaming behavior can often be predicted with knowledge of individuals\u27 residence, workplace, and other household demographic characteristics. Both local government agencies and casino managers can use the results to make better-informed decisions
Evolutionary prisoner's dilemma game on hierarchical lattices
An evolutionary prisoner's dilemma (PD) game is studied with players located
on a hierarchical structure of layered square lattices. The players can follow
two strategies [D (defector) and C (cooperator)] and their income comes from PD
games with the ``neighbors.'' The adoption of one of the neighboring strategies
is allowed with a probability dependent on the payoff difference. Monte Carlo
simulations are performed to study how the measure of cooperation is affected
by the number of hierarchical levels (Q) and by the temptation to defect.
According to the simulations the highest frequency of cooperation can be
observed at the top level if the number of hierarchical levels is low (Q<4).
For larger Q, however, the highest frequency of cooperators occurs in the
middle layers. The four-level hierarchical structure provides the highest
average (total) income for the whole community.Comment: appendix adde
Metastability and anomalous fixation in evolutionary games on scale-free networks
We study the influence of complex graphs on the metastability and fixation
properties of a set of evolutionary processes. In the framework of evolutionary
game theory, where the fitness and selection are frequency-dependent and vary
with the population composition, we analyze the dynamics of snowdrift games
(characterized by a metastable coexistence state) on scale-free networks. Using
an effective diffusion theory in the weak selection limit, we demonstrate how
the scale-free structure affects the system's metastable state and leads to
anomalous fixation. In particular, we analytically and numerically show that
the probability and mean time of fixation are characterized by stretched
exponential behaviors with exponents depending on the network's degree

U.S. Consumers’ Preference and Willingness to Pay for Country-of-Origin-Labeled Beef Steak and Food Safety Enhancements
The mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) troubles beef exporters to the U.S. This study evaluates the extent that U.S. consumers are receptive to imported steak and their perception of food safety level of beef from various countries. In addition, using conjoint analysis, willingness to pay for strip loin steak from Australia, Canada and the United States is estimated along with several increasingly important food safeties and quality attributes in beef. Willingness to Pay for Imported Beef and Risk Perception: An application of Individual-Level Parameter
The controversy surrounding the Mandatory Country-of-Origin Labeling (COOL) has attracted research attentions. A number of studies have reported consumers are willing to pay more for beef labeled with U.S. origin versus beef from unknown or other origins. Despite that, relatively little is known about what motivates consumers’ preference for origin-labeled food products (Lusk et al 2006). Using Individual-Level Parameters following a mixed logit model, we found that U.S. consumers were willing to pay significantly less for imported steak from Australia and Canada compare to U.S. steak. Altruistic Contents of Quantum Prisoner's Dilemma
We examine the classical contents of quantum games. It is shown that a
quantum strategy can be interpreted as a classical strategies with effective
density-dependent game matrices composed of transposed matrix elements. In
particular, successful quantum strategies in dilemma games are interpreted in

Aspiring to the fittest and promotion of cooperation in the prisoner's dilemma game
Strategy changes are an essential part of evolutionary games. Here we
introduce a simple rule that, depending on the value of a single parameter ,
influences the selection of players that are considered as potential sources of
the new strategy. For positive players with high payoffs will be considered
more likely, while for negative the opposite holds. Setting equal to
zero returns the frequently adopted random selection of the opponent. We find
that increasing the probability of adopting the strategy from the fittest
player within reach, i.e. setting positive, promotes the evolution of
cooperation. The robustness of this observation is tested against different
levels of uncertainty in the strategy adoption process and for different
interaction network. Since the evolution to widespread defection is tightly
associated with cooperators having a lower fitness than defectors, the fact
that positive values of facilitate cooperation is quite surprising. We show
that the results can be explained by means of a negative feedback effect that
increases the vulnerability of defectors although initially increasing their
survivability. Moreover, we demonstrate that the introduction of
effectively alters the interaction network and thus also the impact of

Stochastic differential equations for evolutionary dynamics with demographic noise and mutations
We present a general framework to describe the evolutionary dynamics of an
arbitrary number of types in finite populations based on stochastic
differential equations (SDE). For large, but finite populations this allows to
include demographic noise without requiring explicit simulations. Instead, the
population size only rescales the amplitude of the noise. Moreover, this
framework admits the inclusion of mutations between different types, provided
that mutation rates, , are not too small compared to the inverse
population size 1/N. This ensures that all types are almost always represented
in the population and that the occasional extinction of one type does not
result in an extended absence of that type. For this limits the use
of SDE's, but in this case there are well established alternative
approximations based on time scale separation. We illustrate our approach by a
Rock-Scissors-Paper game with mutations, where we demonstrate excellent
agreement with simulation based results for sufficiently large populations. In
the absence of mutations the excellent agreement extends to small population
