The Structural Pre-Requisites for Clinical Leadership
Following a critical review of the conceptual foundations of current calls for leadership, this paper assesses the extent to which the preconditions for clinical leadership are evident in healthcare settings. In detail, it examines how prevailing professional cultures may be affecting the followership of clinical leaders. It then assess the extent to which existing health policies, structures and methods are aligned to structurally underpin the authority that leaders are meant to exercise
Transport and Helfand moments in the Lennard-Jones fluid. I. Shear viscosity
We propose a new method, the Helfand-moment method, to compute the shear
viscosity by equilibrium molecular dynamics in periodic systems. In this
method, the shear viscosity is written as an Einstein-like relation in terms of
the variance of the so-called Helfand moment. This quantity, is modified in
order to satisfy systems with periodic boundary conditions usually considered
in molecular dynamics. We calculate the shear viscosity in the Lennard-Jones
fluid near the triple point thanks to this new technique. We show that the
results of the Helfand-moment method are in excellent agreement with the
results of the standard Green-Kubo method.Comment: Submitted to the Journal of Chemical Physic

Quaternion Analysis for Generalized Electromagnetic Fields of Dyons in Isotropic Medium
Quaternion analysis of time dependent Maxwell's equations in presence of
electric and magnetic charges has been developed and the solutions for the
classical problem of moving charges (electric and magnetic) are obtained in
unique, simple and consistent manner
Spatial separation in a thermal mixture of ultracold Yb and Rb atoms
We report on the observation of unusually strong interactions in a thermal
mixture of ultracold atoms which cause a significant modification of the
spatial distribution. A mixture of Rb and Yb with a temperature
of a few K is prepared in a hybrid trap consisting of a bichromatic
optical potential superimposed on a magnetic trap. For suitable trap parameters
and temperatures, a spatial separation of the two species is observed. We infer
that the separation is driven by a large interaction strength between
Yb and Rb accompanied by a large three-body recombination rate.
Based on this assumption we have developed a diffusion model which reproduces
our observations
Hard Discs on the Hyperbolic Plane
We examine a simple hard disc fluid with no long range interactions on the
two dimensional space of constant negative Gaussian curvature, the hyperbolic
plane. This geometry provides a natural mechanism by which global crystalline
order is frustrated, allowing us to construct a tractable model of disordered
monodisperse hard discs. We extend free area theory and the virial expansion to
this regime, deriving the equation of state for the system, and compare its
predictions with simulation near an isostatic packing in the curved space.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, included, final versio
Representations of U(1,q) and Constructive Quaternion Tensor Products
The representation theory of the group U(1,q) is discussed in detail because
of its possible application in a quaternion version of the Salam-Weinberg
theory.
As a consequence, from purely group theoretical arguments we demonstrate that
the eigenvalues must be right-eigenvalues and that the only consistent scalar
products are the complex ones. We also define an explicit quaternion tensor
product which leads to a set of additional group representations for integer
``spin''.Comment: 28 pages, Latex, Dipartimento di Fisica, Universita di Lecce
