Rapid Prototyping of Functional Three-Dimensional Microsolenoids and Electromagnets by High-Pressure Laser Chemical Vapor Deposition

Three-dimensional laser chemical vapor deposition (3D-LCVD) is an emerging process which bridges the gap between various macro-scale rapid prototyping (RP) systems and microfabrication technologies. With the ability to deposit both metals and dielectrics 3D-LCVD may be used to prototype integrated electromechanical components from sub-micron to centimeter scales. This technological niche is increasingly important with the ever-decreasing size and sophistication of consumer and industrial products. The objective of this work was the development of functional microsolenoids and electromagnets, using 3D-LCVD as the primary fabrication tool. The super Mumford form and Sato Grassmannian

We describe a supersymmetric generalization of the construction of Kontsevich and Arbarello, De Concini, Kac, and Procesi, which utilizes a relation between the moduli space of curves with the infinite-dimensional Sato Grassmannian. Our main result is the existence of a flat holomorphic connection on the line bundle $\lambda_{3/2}\otimes\lambda_{1/2}^{-5}$ on the moduli space of triples: a super Riemann surface, a Neveu-Schwarz puncture, and a formal coordinate system. We also prove a superconformal Noether normalization lemma for families of super Riemann surfaces

Preventing Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes in Immigrant Populations

Obesity-related diseases have been increasing in African immigrants throughout the United States. Although research has been done to identify risk factors associated with many ethnic groups in the United States, only a few studies exist that explore obesity and type 2 diabetes diseases among Central African immigrants. The conceptual framework for this qualitative case study was social constructivism and the health belief model. The primary research question addressed the potential underlying causes for an increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes among Central African Immigrants. The secondary research questions explored how culture, illiteracy, and religion contribute to the problem of obesity in Central African immigrants, and what strategies could be effective in preventing and reducing the increase of obesity and type 2 diabetes in this population. Interviews with 17 Central African immigrants living in the northeastern U.S. were conducted to explore their social, cultural, and behavioral factors that influence the prevalence of obesity. Interview responses were transcribed and entered into NVivo software for data analysis. The results revealed that socioeconomic issues, cultural differences, and language gaps were the primary risk factors. Feeling stressed and overwhelmed and a lack of communication were also found to be significant. The results could provide health administrators and health educators with a platform for advancing policies and programs to foster greater health and well-being among Central African immigrants and thus contribute to the overall social welfare of Central African immigrants

Classification of Minimal Separating Sets in Low Genus Surfaces

Consider a surface $S$ and let $M\subset S$. If $S\setminus M$ is not connected, then we say $M$ \emph{separates} $S$, and we refer to $M$ as a \emph{separating set} of $S$. If $M$ separates $S$, and no proper subset of $M$ separates $S$, then we say $M$ is a \emph{minimal separating set} of $S$. In this paper we use methods of computational combinatorial topology to classify the minimal separating sets of the orientable surfaces of genus $g=2$ and $g=3$. Topics discussed in this paper are: power estimates, compressed air power, battery chemistries, battery management systems, battery chargers, electric motors, motor controllers, direct sprocket drive, frame modifications, part mounting, and wiring. These topics are discussed in the context in which they apply to the project build, which is a conversion of a street motorcycle to fully electric drive.
