Improving music genre classification using automatically induced harmony rules
We present a new genre classification framework using both low-level signal-based features and high-level harmony features. A state-of-the-art statistical genre classifier based on timbral features is extended using a first-order random forest containing for each genre rules derived from harmony or chord sequences. This random forest has been automatically induced, using the first-order logic induction algorithm TILDE, from a dataset, in which for each chord the degree and chord category are identified, and covering classical, jazz and pop genre classes. The audio descriptor-based genre classifier contains 206 features, covering spectral, temporal, energy, and pitch characteristics of the audio signal. The fusion of the harmony-based classifier with the extracted feature vectors is tested on three-genre subsets of the GTZAN and ISMIR04 datasets, which contain 300 and 448 recordings, respectively. Machine learning classifiers were tested using 5 × 5-fold cross-validation and feature selection. Results indicate that the proposed harmony-based rules combined with the timbral descriptor-based genre classification system lead to improved genre classification rates

Association between Antibodies to the MR 67,000 Isoform of Glutamate Decarboxylase (GAD) and Type 1 (Insulin-Dependent) Diabetes Mellitus with Coexisting Autoimmune Polyendocrine Syndrome Type II
By using an immunoprecipitation assay, we analysed reactivity of autoantibodies to human recombinant GAD65 and GAD67 in sera from patients with autoimmune polyendocrine syndrome Type II (APS II) with and without Type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus (IDDM) compared to patients with organ-specific autoimmunity. Overall antibodies to GAD65 were correlated with IDDM in all study groups, whereas GAD67 antibodies were associated with IDDM when APS II coexists. Antibodies to GAD65 and GAD67 were detected in 13 (44.8%) and 7 (24.1%) out of 29 APS II patients with IDDM, but in only 4 (13.8%) and 2 (6.9%) out of 29 APS II patients without IDDM, respectively (p < 0.05). In short-standing IDDM (< 1 year), antibodies to GAD67 were significantly more frequent in patients with APS II (5 of 9 [55.6%] subjects) compared to matched diabetic patients without coexisting polyendocrinopathy (1 of 18 [5.6%] subjects) (p < 0.02). The levels of GAD65 (142 ± 90 AU) and GAD67 antibodies (178 ± 95 AU) were significantly higher in patients with polyglandular disease than in patients with isolated IDDM (91 ± 85 AU and 93 ± 57 AU) (p < 0.02). Interestingly, all 11 GAD67 antibody positive subjects also had GAD65 antibodies (p < 0.0001), and in 10 of 11 anti-GAD67 positive sera the GAD67 antibodies could be blocked by either GAD67 or GAD65, suggesting the presence of cross-reactive autoantibodies. No correlation was observed between GAD antibodies and age, sex or any particular associated autoimmune disease, besides IDDM. GAD antibodies were present in only 1 of 6 (16.7%) patients with APS Type I, in 1 of 26 (3.9%) patients with autoimmune thyroid disease but in none of the patients with Addison's disease (n = 16), pernicious anaemia (n = 7) or normal controls (n = 50). Our data suggest distinct antibody specificities reactive to GAD isoforms in APS II and IDDM, which might reflect different mechanisms of autoimmune response in IDDM with coexisting autoimmune polyendocrine autoimmunity
ATPMN: accurate positions and flux densities at 5 and 8 GHz for 8,385 sources from the PMN survey
We present a source catalogue of 9,040 radio sources resulting from
high-resolution observations of 8,385 PMN sources with the Australia Telescope
Compact Array. The catalogue lists flux density and structural measurements at
4.8 and 8.6 GHz, derived from observations of all PMN sources in the
declination range -87 deg < delta < -38.5 deg (exclusive of galactic latitudes
|b| 70 mJy (50 mJy south of delta = -73
deg). We assess the quality of the data, which was gathered in 1992-1994,
describe the population of catalogued sources, and compare it to samples from
complementary catalogues. In particular we find 127 radio sources with probable
association with gamma-ray sources observed by the orbiting Fermi Large Area

Accretion and nuclear activity in Virgo early-type galaxies
We use Chandra observations to estimate the accretion rate of hot gas onto
the central supermassive black hole in four giant (of stellar mass 10E11 -
10E12 solar masses) early-type galaxies located in the Virgo cluster. They are
characterized by an extremely low radio luminosity, in the range L < 3E25 -
10E27 erg/s/Hz. We find that, accordingly, accretion in these objects occurs at
an extremely low rate, 0.2 - 3.7 10E-3 solar masses per year, and that they
smoothly extend the relation accretion - jet power found for more powerful
radio-galaxies. This confirms the dominant role of hot gas and of the galactic
coronae in powering radio-loud active galactic nuclei across ~ 4 orders of
magnitude in luminosity. A suggestive trend between jet power and location

1.4 GHz polarimetric observations of the two fields imaged by the DASI experiment
We present results of polarization observations at 1.4 GHz of the two fields
imaged by the DASI experiment (, and , ,
respectively). Data were taken with the Australia Telescope Compact Array with
3.4 arcmin resolution and mJy beam sensitivity. The emission
is dominated by point sources and we do not find evidence for diffuse
synchrotron radiation even after source subtraction. This allows to estimate an
upper limit of the diffuse polarized emission. The extrapolation to 30 GHz
suggests that the synchrotron radiation is lower than the polarized signal
measured by the DASI experiment by at least 2 orders of magnitude. This further
supports the conclusions drawn by the DASI team itself about the negligible
Galactic foreground contamination in their data set, improving by a factor
the upper limit estimated by Leitch et al. (2005).
The dominant point source emission allows us to estimate the contamination of
the CMB by extragalactic foregrounds. We computed the power spectrum of their
contribution and its extrapolation to 30 GHz provides a framework where the CMB
signal should dominate. However, our results do not match the conclusions of
the DASI team about the negligibility of point source contamination, suggesting
