Dynamics of the modified Kibble-\.Zurek mechanism in antiferromagnetic spin-1 condensates
We investigate the dynamics and outcome of a quantum phase transition from an
antiferromagnetic to phase separated ground state in a spin-1 Bose-Einstein
condensate of ultracold atoms. We explicitly demonstrate double universality in
dynamics within experiments with various quench time. Furthermore, we show that
spin domains created in the nonequilibrium transition constitute a set of
mutually incoherent quasicondensates. The quasicondensates appear to be
positioned in a semi-regular fashion, which is a result of the conservation of
local magnetization during the post-selection dynamics
O wydawcach i wydawaniu źródeł.
Why didn’t the academy teach Polish law? : customary law in oral and written culture
The author reflects on reasons why national law wasn’t taught at medieval academies. National law in Poland, derived from a customary system of law and was the dominant element of the justice system until the termination of the tenure of the State of nobility. The failure to teach the law should not have been caused by lack of staff able to teach, nor by lack of students interested in learning. Hence, one might consider whether it wasn’t in fact a feature of the law itself that constituted this obstacle.
In light of research into the characteristics of oral culture societies, where the common law developed, the hypothesis may be constructed that the customary system of law that existed in preliterate times could not create a system of norms, whether general or individual – as it is assumed based on the content of the common law that was written down. Although in the absence of a written record, we do not have specific information concerning the functioning of this system, it can be assumed that it contained only the rules, indicating the measures to be taken to settle the dispute arising within the society. It was not possible to apply the norm, but using the mechanisms to preserve social peace
How Professor Oswald Balzer Accidently Helped Hungarians to Legalize the Annexation of the White Water Valle
In 1769, Austria had annexed by force the lands of the Polish starosty of Nowy Targ to Hungary, including the White Water Valley. In 1772 the Empress took back these territories from Hungary and attached them to Austria. The conflict over the Austro-Hungarian border in the Tatra Mountains, lasting throughout the nineteenth century, was settled in 1902 by an arbitration award. The Tribunal approved almost all of Austria’s demands, but at the same time it submitted to the stubborn demands of the Austrian defense attorney prof. Oswald Balzer, and decided to deprive Galicia of the right to regain the White Waters Valley, which had been forcibly seized by the Hungarians.W 1769 r. Austria gwałtem przyłączyła do Węgier ziemie polskiego starostwa nowotarskiego, w tym Dolinę Białej Wody. W 1772 r. cesarzowa te same tereny zabrała Węgrom i przyłączyła do Austrii.
Jana Adamusa droga ku naukowemu niebytowi
W artykule przedstawione zostały skomplikowane dzieje dorobku założyciela ośrodka badań
mediewistycznych na Wydziale Prawa Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego - Jana Adamusa. Znakomity badacz
tego dorobku, by w końcu wskazać niektóre z przyczyn powodujących niemal powszechne
The article presents the complicated history of the works and achievements of the founder
of Medieval Studies Centre at the Faculty of Law of the University of Łódź, Jan Adamus. The
eminent researcher of bygone judicial law criticised the political system of the state of the kings
of the House of Piast approved by the Polish historiography by the authority of Oswald Balzer.
The text quotes ways of avoiding references to the claims of Jan Adamus or glossing them over
resorted to by historians, and literature containing material assessment of his achievements, to
point finally at some of the reasons that resulted in near absolute avoidance of including the criticism
of his predecessors flung by the Łódź-based medievalist.
doprowadził do stworzenia dobrze funkcjonującego systemu urzędów.
pozbawiając monarchę uprawnienia do powoływania takich urzędników, z wyjątkiem
przypadków dopuszczonych w ustawie. The process of rebuilding public administration in the Kingdom of Poland under the
Jagiellonian dynasty failed to create a well-functioning system of offices. Medieval structures
dependent on the nobility were preserved, to be supplemented with offices, only initially
dependent on the king. When the ruler tried to carry out his will by means of an
extended system of commissaires (appointed on an ad hoc basis, for a specific case, for a
specific period of time), the noble community systematically limited royal rights, depriving
the king of the power of appointment of such offi cials, except in statutory cases
