    Get PDF
Granuloma gluteale infantum is a rare nodular complication of irritant diaper dermatitis. The association of this condition with the widespread use of nondisposable cloth diapers has been increasingly recognized. We present the case of an 18-month-old girl with granuloma gluteale infantum. Our aims are to emphasize the importance of clinical recognition of this re-emerging complication of diaper dermatitis and to point out the potential role of topical calcineurin inhibitors as a treatment option.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

AbstractObjectiveTo make a comparative inter and intraobserver analysis on measurements of the anatomical axis between panoramic radiographs of the lower limbs in anteroposterior (AP) view with bipedal weight-bearing, on short film.MethodsAn accuracy study comparing radiographic measurements on 47 knees of patients attending the knee surgery outpatient clinic due to osteoarthritis. The radiographic evaluation used was as standardized for the total knee arthroplasty program, including panoramic AP views of the lower limbs and short radiographs of the knees in AP and lateral views, all with bipedal weight-bearing. Following this, the anatomical axis of the lower limbs or the femorotibial angle was measured by five independent examiners on the panoramic and short AP radiographs; three of the examiners were considered to be more experienced and two, less experienced. All the measurements were made again by the same examiners after an interval of not less than 15 days. The statistical analysis was performed using the intraclass correlation coefficient, in order to evaluate the inter and intraobserver concordance of the anatomical axis measurements.ResultsFrom the statistical analysis, it was observed that there was strongly significant concordance between the anatomical axis measurements on the panoramic and short radiographs, for all the five examiners and for both measurements.ConclusionsUnder the conditions studied, short radiographs were equivalent to panoramic radiographs for evaluating the anatomical axis of the lower limbs in patients with advanced osteoarthritis. The measurements used also showed high rates of inter and intraobserver concordance and reproducibility

X-Ray Spectrom. 2003; 32: 396–401The elemental composition (K, Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Sr, Ba, Nd and Pb) of modern coloured glasses was obtained by energy-dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometry. This nondestructive technique is frequently used in the analysis of historical glass objects. Two reference glasses were also measured to assess the overall accuracy of the EDXRF method. Reference and unknown glasses were analysed without any preparation. The coloured glass samples studied belong to the Glass Museum of Marinha Grande and were chosen from two distinct collections, which were characterized by the different concentrations of some elements (K, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ba and Pb). The determined major elements allowed the identification of two raw materials used in glass manufacture, sand and lime. Multivariate statistical analysis, namely principal component extraction, simplified the identification of some of the colouring chemical elements, associating them with the different colours of the glass objects

The objective of this work was to discuss results related to pollination, embryo culture and field evaluations of banana diploid (AA) and tetraploid (AAAB, Prata and Maçã types) hybrids. The best diploids of the Banana Active Germplasm Bank (BAGB), of the Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) — Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Mandioca e Fruticultura (CNPMF) — were intercrossed and 16 of them were selected based on yield and diseases resistance. Those selected hybrids, in addition to SH 3263 introduced from Federación Hondureña de Investigación Agrícola, constitute a pollination field. Intercrossing those 17 diploid, as well as crossing them with commercial varieties, generated new diploids and tetraploids Prata and Maçã types. Embryo culture has been performed in order to increase seed germination of tetraploids. It is concluded that: breeding banana diploid hybrids for yield and resistance to diseases is a promising technique; obtaining tetraploid seeds depends on the diploid and the triploid used; embryo culture has not shown high efficiency on embryo recovery; and the improvement technique applied to the banana Prata type can be also used for improvement of banana Maçã type. The banana improvement program for generation of tetraploid Prata type produced eleven hybrids showing good yield and resistance to yellow Sigatoka, which are ready for commercial evaluation.

This paper presents the modelling and control of a laboratory helicopter twin rotor MIMO system using the MatLab package. Firstly, we provide an overview of the system model, secondly, we compare the behaviour of fractional and integer order controllers used a PSO algorithm for the controller optimization in order to obtain the minimum error. Finally, we analyse the system performance and the results obtained with the real helicopter show that fractional algorithms are smoother than conventional PID. Both controllers reveal good output responses but the PID needs more energy to perform the same task.N/

"Published in SPIE Proceedings Vol. 9286"We present a flexible fluorescence lifetime imaging device which can be employed to scan large sample areas with a spatial resolution adjustable from many micrometers down to sub-micrometers and a temporal resolution of 20 picoseconds. Several different applications of the system will be presented including protein microarrays analysis, the scanning of historical samples, evaluation of solar cell surfaces and nanocrystalline organic crystals embedded in electrospun polymeric nanofibers. Energy transfer processes within semiconductor quantum dot superstructures as well as between dye probes and graphene layers were also investigated. This work was financially supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade (COMPETE: FCOMP-01-0124-FEDER-014628) and the Portuguese Fundacao para a Ciencia e Tecnologia (FCT) through the projects "Functional structuring, inter-particle interaction and energy transfer in ensembles of nanocrystal dots" (PTDC/FIS/113199/2009), Ultra-fast spectroscopy on the dynamics and relaxation of Dirac electrons in graphene" (PTDC/FIS/101434/ 2008) and "Low dimensional nanostructures for nonlinear optical applications" PTDC/CTmNAN/114269/2009
