    GESTURE BASED TOUCHPAD SECURITY SYSTEM WITH DESIGN OF TOUCH SCREEN CONTROLLER

    The purpose of the project is to present a new approach on the design of security systems by using a touch sensitive device. Security is a permanent concern in a variety of environments ranging from physical access restriction in home and industrial settings to information security in digital systems. Numeric passwords, fingerprint recognition, and many other techniques have been extensively implemented in the past but they present certain drawbacks. The proposed technique makes use of a touch device to recognize symbols as passwords and takes time into account to add a new dimension and prevent password theft. We implemented a prototype that demonstrates the capabilities of the proposed security approach by showing one direct application in physical access restriction systems

    Elimination of human rabies in Goa, India through an integrated One Health approach

    Dog-mediated rabies kills tens of thousands of people each year in India, representing one third of the estimated global rabies burden. Whilst the World Health Organization (WHO), World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have set a target for global dog-mediated human rabies elimination by 2030, examples of large-scale dog vaccination programs demonstrating elimination remain limited in Africa and Asia. We describe the development of a data-driven rabies elimination program from 2013 to 2019 in Goa State, India, culminating in human rabies elimination and a 92% reduction in monthly canine rabies cases. Smartphone technology enabled systematic spatial direction of remote teams to vaccinate over 95,000 dogs at 70% vaccination coverage, and rabies education teams to reach 150,000 children annually. An estimated 2249 disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were averted over the program period at 526 USD per DALY, making the intervention ‘very cost-effective’ by WHO definitions. This One Health program demonstrates that human rabies elimination is achievable at the state level in India

    Recent Advances in Cardiac Tissue Engineering for the Management of Myocardium Infarction

    Myocardium Infarction (MI) is one of the foremost cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) causing death worldwide, and its case numbers are expected to continuously increase in the coming years. Pharmacological interventions have not been at the forefront in ameliorating MI-related morbidity and mortality. Stem cell-based tissue engineering approaches have been extensively explored for their regenerative potential in the infarcted myocardium. Recent studies on microfluidic devices employing stem cells under laboratory set-up have revealed meticulous events pertaining to the pathophysiology of MI occurring at the infarcted site. This discovery also underpins the appropriate conditions in the niche for differentiating stem cells into mature cardiomyocyte-like cells and leads to engineering of the scaffold via mimicking of native cardiac physiological conditions. However, the mode of stem cell-loaded engineered scaffolds delivered to the site of infarction is still a challenging mission, and yet to be translated to the clinical setting. In this review, we have elucidated the various strategies developed using a hydrogel-based system both as encapsulated stem cells and as biocompatible patches loaded with cells and applied at the site of infarction.</jats:p

    Antenatal dexamethasone for early preterm birth in low-resource countries

    BACKGROUND: The safety and efficacy of antenatal glucocorticoids in women in low-resource countries who are at risk for preterm birth are uncertain. METHODS: We conducted a multicountry, randomized trial involving pregnant women between 26 weeks 0 days and 33 weeks 6 days of gestation who were at risk for preterm birth. The participants were assigned to intramuscular dexamethasone or identical placebo. The primary outcomes were neonatal death alone, stillbirth or neonatal death, and possible maternal bacterial infection; neonatal death alone and stillbirth or neonatal death were evaluated with superiority analyses, and possible maternal bacterial infection was evaluated with a noninferiority analysis with the use of a prespecified margin of 1.25 on the relative scale. RESULTS: A total of 2852 women (and their 3070 fetuses) from 29 secondary- and tertiary-level hospitals across Bangladesh, India, Kenya, Nigeria, and Pakistan underwent randomization. The trial was stopped for benefit at the second interim analysis. Neonatal death occurred in 278 of 1417 infants (19.6%) in the dexamethasone group and in 331 of 1406 infants (23.5%) in the placebo group (relative risk, 0.84; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.72 to 0.97; P=0.03). Stillbirth or neonatal death occurred in 393 of 1532 fetuses and infants (25.7%) and in 444 of 1519 fetuses and infants (29.2%), respectively (relative risk, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.78 to 0.99; P=0.04); the incidence of possible maternal bacterial infection was 4.8% and 6.3%, respectively (relative risk, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.56 to 1.03). There was no significant between-group difference in the incidence of adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: Among women in low-resource countries who were at risk for early preterm birth, the use of dexamethasone resulted in significantly lower risks of neonatal death alone and stillbirth or neonatal death than the use of placebo, without an increase in the incidence of possible maternal bacterial infection.Fil: Oladapo, Olufemi T..     Multilevelvoltage-source inverters are the best solution for high power dc-to-ac conversion applications. A multilevel inverter is a linkage structure of multiple input dc levels and power semiconductor devices to get a quasisquare waveform. In addition, the multilevel waveform has less harmonic contentsas compared to a two-level waveform obtained from conventional inverters. The quality of the multilevel waveform is improved by increasing the number of levels. But, ifnumber of level increases, a large number of power semiconductor devices and gate driver circuits are also increased

    Human community is in agony of grave metabolic disorder i.e., obesity/Sthaulya roga. It is inclined to become miserable because of the attenuated Dosha in the body. Sedentary lifestyle, hampered sexual life, extreme lassitude, will be prone to engulf the normalcy of an individual, which ultimately leads to decreased life span. It is widely recognized that obesity has emerged as an epidemic in developed nations. It continues to be an issue of great concern. In addition, we now face the emergence of obesity as a worldwide phenomenon, affecting affluent and ordinary group of class. Here in this case report the objective is to find out the efficacy of Vrikshamla (Garcinia Cambogia) in the management of Sthaulya (Obesity). Materials: A 32 years old male patient K/C/O obesity since three year. Accustomed him with sedentary lifestyle which leads to an drastic gain in the weight. Through physical findings, BMI of a patient is 32.3 and by investigations the diagnosis led to Sthaulya as well as dyslipidemia. The study was assessed by both subjective and objective criteria. The treatment plan opted was Ayurveda internal medicine “Vrikshamla are best in the management of Sthaulya, selected as per criteria and examined by means of Roga and Rogi Pariksha methods. Administered Vrikshamla 2gm per day for 60 days and subjective as well as objective parameters were Assessed based on before and after treatment. Discussion: Difference in the values of subjective and objective parameters, illustrate all the clinical observations in respect of incidences of Nidana, Lakshana and percentage of relief in the subject. Conclusion: In the present research work undertaken, Vrikshamla an herbal formulation prove its efficacy against dyslipidaemia

    Not AvailableIn India, emergence of Ind2001 lineage of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) serotype O was recorded in the year 2001. After causing sporadic incidences, the Ind2001 lineage that re-surged in 2008 out-competed PanAsia from the field during 2009 and continued its dominance during 2010 and 2011 as well. The lineage has diversified in due course of time, leading to two sub-lineages (Ind2001a and Ind2001b). The sub-lineage Ind2001a include isolates collected during 2001-2002 and sub-lineage Ind2001b is constituted largely by isolates collected during 2008-2012. The nucleotide substitution rate of sub-lineage Ind2001b was estimated at 6.58×10⁻³ substitutions/site/year. The most stable PanAsia lineage is restricted only to few outbreaks. During 2011, emergence of a new genetic group with >9% nucleotide divergence from rest of the lineages circulating in the country was detected and named as lineage Ind2011. Two specific amino acid substitutions at positions VP1-36 (F) and VP2-133 (T) were observed in the Ind2011 lineage. The new lineage at present is restricted only to southern states of the country. It is uncertain whether the emergence was triggered by immune pressure or due to a bottleneck in transmission or selected for higher fitness value. Six sites (4, 68, 83, 135, 138 and 209) in VP1 protein were identified to undergo episodic diversifying selection in serotype O field isolates. Both emerging and re-emerging lineages had appropriate antigenic match with currently used vaccine strain, INDR2/1975. Irrespective of genetic variability, the field isolates showed remarkable conservation at antigenically critical residues that might contribute to the observed antigenic stability. With the emergence of a new genetic group after a span of 10 years, the overall epidemiological scenario in the region is expected to change in the coming years.Not Availabl

    IntroductionSince 2018, the Indian state of Kerala has reported four Nipah virus (NiV) disease outbreaks, raising concerns about NiV spillover from bats to the human population. Considering this, a cross-sectional study was undertaken in the Pteropus medius bat population around the Nipah virus-affected regions of Kozhikode, Kerala, India, during February, July, and September 2023.MethodsThroat swabs, rectal swabs, and organ samples were collected from bats to test for NiV using the real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), while serum samples were screened for anti-Nipah IgG antibodies through ELISA.ResultsAn overall seroprevalence of 20.9% was observed in 272 P. medius bats tested. The throat and rectal swab samples of 321 bats were negative for NiV RNA. However, 4 of 44 P. medius bats tested positive for NiV in their liver/spleen samples. The partial N gene retrieved showed more than 99% similarity with the earlier reported NiV genome from Kerala state, India.DiscussionThe findings of the study caution that there is a spillover risk in the region and necessary precautions should be taken.</p
