Microwave sintering can be an efficient, economic and valuable approach for the processing of some PM materials. Recent findings on the ability of powdered metals to absorb and dissipate microwave radiation, opened new opportunities for the PM world. Being the particle size of the metallic powders one of the key parameters that rules the heating rate and the temperature performance during microwave sintering, work has been carried out on compacts of 316L powder blends with 60, 50, 25 and 7 m mean particle sizes, at 1150ºC for 30 minutes in a 2.45 GHz-1000 W microwave oven. Green and sintered densities and corresponding transverse rupture strength (TRS) are reported as well as hardness and porosity. Densities in excess of 95% were attained for the finer powders. TRS tests were performed on all but the 7 m powder specimens, being the highest value of 630 MPa obtained for the 25 m powder specimen

Montado’s ecosystem functions and services: the case study of Alentejo Central – Portugal

Although the concept of ecosystem services is well defined and centred on human use of natural systems, it is not yet consensual. The ecosystem services connect ecology and economy; they allow to integrate ecology into policies and to bring a monetary value. Even if the authors do not entirely agree with the idea of giving a monetary value to all elements, living and not living, they consider that the concept of ecosystem services can be improved in the sense of a holistic landscape ecological approach. Montado is a high valuated cultural landscape typical from the Southwest of Iberian Peninsula. It concerns a human-shaped ecosystem composed by a mosaic of scattered cork oaks, holm oaks or mix oaks, with a high grazing diversity. The most important products of Montado are cork and other non-timber products. Nevertheless it’s highly value is on the ecosystem functions it can provide, namely biodiversity conservation, water cycle regulation, carbon sequestration and soil conservation. These ecosystem services are highly interconnected, and have a lot of dependences in a complex structure. So, the first goal of this paper is to identify the main Montado ecosystem services that must be valued in sustainable management and policies, in order to prevent biodiversity losses and other types of ecosystem degradation.ICAAM,CIMAC,CIDEHU

Guidelines for the integration of biological and cultural values in a Landscape Interpretation Center: application in southern Portugal

    Get PDF
The city of Évora (the Roman Ebora Liberalitas Julia) is the most important town in Alentejo province (Southern Portugal) and is surrounded by a quite rich cultural and biological landscape involving archaeological sites of several epochs, old field networks and farms, as well as specific multifunctional cultural landscapes, the agro-forestry-pastoral systems called montados. Based on previous studies and land surveys, in which where identified the best preserved sectors and marks around Évora concerning the old cadastral systems, ecological corridors networks and the most important montados areas for preservation, it is presented the main guidelines for the development of an interpretation centre for the cultural and biological values in the Évora region. The methodology applies GIS spatial analysis and multilevel approaches and gives the guidelines for the integration of the different cultural and biological values in a holistic approach of landscape. The conceptual model is presented as well as the results obtained for the Évora Region

Montado landscape is a highly valuated agro-forestry-pastoral system protected by law and integrated in the Portuguese Nacional List for Cultural Landscape World Heritage of UNESCO. It provides important environmental and cultural functions and services. These types of multifunctional landscapes are very attractive for sustainable tourism, like walking, birdwatching and other leisure activities. Alentejo Central is covered by montado landscapes (cork oak and holm oaktrees) in about 50% of its area. In 2016, the Comunidade Intermunicipal do Alentejo Central (CIMAC), decided tu implement a walking path network that connect the main villages and rural landscape and their cultural and natural heritage. lhe Montado Great Route (GRM), is planned for more than 1.000 km and connects natural, scenic, architectural and cultural values that everyone can enjoy walking through the landscape. These paths connect also with the contiguous regions namely to Alto and Baixo Alentejo, Vicentina Coast and Spain

As a consequence of the demands of contemporary society, increasing emphasis has been placed in recent years on maximizing results and optimizing the length of the psychotherapeutic process. Reflecting on the concept of motivation for therapy, I have sought to show the underlying processes that bring it into play and to assess its impact on the length of the psychotherapeutic process. Given that few psychotherapeutic models treat motivation as a relevant variable, I have used two integrative meta-models as a theoretical system of reference, the Transtheoretical Model (Prochaska, 1982) and the Paradigmatic Complementary Model (Vasco, 2006), which take self-awareness as a means of measuring change. This study, which is non-experimental and is of a quantitative and longitudinal type, will consider the degree of self-discrepancies and the quality of the working alliance as variables that can interfere in the speed of change. The objective of the study will be to assess the way in which the patient's initial stage of change interferes with the time needed to attain the strategic objectives of the second phase of the Paradigmatic Complementary Meta-model (to increase self-awareness). For each hypothesis I have examined the significance of the possible results and explored certain implications for clinical practice

    Get PDF
----------------------- ABSTRACT - The feeling of loneliness is increasing as a result of developments in modern society. Specifically occurring during pregnancy, when important changes - physical, psychological and related to the family structure and interaction with society - take place, special attention should be devoted. To maintain good mental health during pregnancy it is important to have good social support and harmonious conjugal relations, both considered as factors preventing the emergence of feelings of loneliness. By contrast low sense of coherence and depression during the pregnancy are risk factors which, inevitably, will affect the quality of the maternal-fetal attachment and have repercussions on the psycho-social development of the future individual. This protocol of draft proposes a transversal exploratory study of a quantitative nature on two sub-studies, exploring the determinants of loneliness and its impact on the maternal-fetal attachment, which intends to identify some correlations between parameters. The study sample is made up of 202 pregnant women who are patients at the Health Centre of the city of Torres Vedras. They will be selected according to criteria of inclusion and exclusion. All variables will be measured through standardized and validated surveys illustrating the Portuguese population, like the Scale of Loneliness of the UCLA, Scale of Satisfaction with the Social Support, Scale of Evaluation of Areas of the Conjugal Life, Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale, Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, and Orientation To Life Questionnaire. We expect to identify correlations between loneliness and satisfaction with social support and conjugal relations, depression during pregnancy and sense of coherence, which will explain it, and the maternal-fetal attachment, which will influence it. Beyond the initial statistical descriptions, the data analysis will be executed according to the distributions found and will be carried taking into account the socio-demographic context. The results of the survey will be published in a final report
