    Excellent solid lubrication of electrodeposited nickel-multiwalled carbon nanotube composite films

    Nickel-multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite films were fabricated by an electrodeposition technique, and their frictional properties were investigated by ball-on-plate type friction testing using an Al2O3 ball as a counter surface without lubricant. Ni-MWCNT composite films showed superior frictional properties compared to nickel films. The friction coefficient of Ni-MWCNT composite films decreased with increasing MWCNT content. The Ni-0.5 mass% MWCNT composite film showed the minimum friction coefficient value of 0.13. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V.     Superior Durability of Dissimilar Material Joint between Steel and Thermoplastic Resin with Roughened Electrodeposited Nickel Interlayer

    The durability of the dissimilar material joint between a steel coated with a roughened nickel plating-film and a thermoplastic resin is assessed. The roughened nickel film is fabricated by electrodeposition using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as the roughening agent and a polyphenylenesulfide (PPS) resin as the thermoplastic resin. The plated steel and PPS resin are joined by injection molding without adhesive. The bonding strength is determined by a tensile lap shear strength test during the durability tests that includes a high-temperature and high-humidity test (85 +/- 2 degrees C, 85 +/- 2% relative humidity; 0-2000 h) and a thermal shock test (-50 degrees C-150 degrees C; 0-1000 cycles). During the high-temperature and high-humidity test, the bonding samples maintain their initial bonding strength (>40 MPa) even after 2000 h. By contrast, during the thermal shock test, although the bonding strength gradually decreases with increasing number of cycles, it remains above 20 MPa even after 1000 cycles. The mechanism of the deterioration of the bonding strength during the thermal shock test is analyzed in detail. The present joining method, which uses a roughened plating film as an interlayer, offers a way to achieve not only high initial bonding strength but also bonding durability for dissimilar material joining between steels and resins.ArticleADVANCED ENGINEERING MATERIALS. 22(12):2000739 (2020)journal articl

    Dengue virus type 2 unresponsive to the current PCR primer; : construction of a new PCR primer to detect all strains of Dengue virus type 2.

    We found that one strain of dengue virus (Trinidad 1751; TR) did not respond to the PCR primer for Jamaica/83. We investigated such property with other 10 strains of dengue virus type 2 and found 2 more unresponsive strains. All 3 strains were isolated from the central America. To detect the envelope gene of those 3 strains by PCR, we synthesized primers based on TR strain as the reference sequence. Using these primers, we could detect the 3 strains by PCR at the usual annealing temperature. We recommed the new primer for diagnosis of DEN 2

    Biochemical classification of tauopathies by immunoblot, protein sequence and mass spectrometric analyses of sarkosyl-insoluble and trypsin-resistant tau

    Intracellular filamentous tau pathology is the defining feature of tauopathies, which form a subset of neurodegenerative diseases. We have analyzed pathological tau in Alzheimer’s disease, and in frontotemporal lobar degeneration associated with tauopathy to include cases with Pick bodies, corticobasal degeneration, progressive supranuclear palsy, and ones due to intronic mutations in MAPT. We found that the C-terminal band pattern of the pathological tau species is distinct for each disease. Immunoblot analysis of trypsin-resistant tau indicated that the different band patterns of the 7–18 kDa fragments in these diseases likely reflect different conformations of tau molecular species. Protein sequence and mass spectrometric analyses revealed the carboxyl-terminal region (residues 243–406) of tau comprises the protease-resistant core units of the tau aggregates, and the sequence lengths and precise regions involved are different among the diseases. These unique assembled tau cores may be used to classify and diagnose disease strains.
