Sand provenance and implications for paleodrainage in a rifted basin: the Tera Group (N. Spain)
Fluvial-fan and fluvial siliciclastic strata, developed during the rifting that generated the Cameros Basin (North Spain), record important provenance changes that reveal source areas compositions and locations, paleodrainage evolution and rift patterns. The Tera Group represents the first rifting stage in the Cameros Basin, containing fluvial-fan sediments at the lower part of the sedimentary fill that evolve to fluvial and lacustrine systems in the upper part of the record. Our quantitative sandstone petrographic analysis evidences the presence of three main petrofacies related closely to the rift basin evolution. At the base of the sedimentary succession, Petrofacies 1 (quartzolithic) indicates that the fluvial-fans source areas included Juras¬sic marine carbonates and older siliciclastic Mesozoic units, as well as metamorphic supplies from the West Asturian Leonese Zone (WALZ). Variscan basement sources of this metamorphic area (WALZ) were more abundant in the upper fluvial record (Petrofacies 2, quartzofeldspathic). Further, the influence of plutonic source areas with a mixed potassic and calcium-sodium composition is also recorded, probably related to the Central Iberian Zone (CIZ). In addition, a local sedimentary input was active during the fluvial and lacustrine stages (Petrofacies 2 and 3, both quartzofeldspathic), as a function of the palaeogeographical position of the Jurassic marine rocks and the level of erosion reached. Plutonic rock fragments have not been observed in the Tera Group sandstones of the western part of the basin. Thus, deeper erosion of the basement in the eastern Cameros Basin is suggested. The provenance evolution from quartzolithic to quartzofeldspathic petrofacies registered in Tera Group siliciclastic deposits is due to the higher influence of transversal supplies during the fluvial-fan stage (quartzolithic) to more important axial inputs during the fluvial stage (quartzofeldspathic). This provenance change represents the evolution from an undissected rift shoulder stage to more advanced stages of rifting (dissected rift shoulder) and during the beginning of a provenance cycle in a rifted basin.Los sedimentos de abanicos fluviales y fluviales propiamente dichos desarrollados durante el proceso de rift que generó la Cuenca de Cameros (Norte de España) registraron importantes cambios de procedencia que proporcionan información sobre la composición y localización de sus áreas fuente, la evolución del paleodrenaje y los patrones de rift. Este estudio se centra en el Grupo Tera (Tithoniense) en el sector oriental de la Cuenca de Cameros. El Grupo Tera representa el primer estadio de rift en dicha cuenca, y está constituido por sedimentos de abanicos fluviales en la parte inferior del relleno sedimentario, que evolucionan a sistemas fluviales y lacustres hacia la parte superior del registro. El estudio petrográfico cuantitativo de las areniscas indica la presencia de tres petrofacies principales que muestran una estrecha relación con la evolución del rift. En la base del registro sedimentario, la Petrofacies 1 (cuarzolítica) manifiesta que las áreas fuente de los abanicos fluviales incluyen tanto carbonatos Jurásicos marinos como unidades siliciclásticas mesozoicas previas, así como influencias metamórficas de la Zona Asturoccidental Leonesa (WALZ). Los aportes del basamento varisco procedentes de esta área fuente metamórfica (WALZ) fueron más importantes en la parte alta del registro (Petrofacies 2, cuarzofeldespática). Además, se detecta la influencia de áreas fuente plutónicas con una composición mixta (potásica y calcosódica), probablemente relacionadas con la Zona Centroibérica (CIZ). También existió un aporte sedimentario local durante los estadios fluviales y lacustres (Petrofacies 2 y 3, ambas cuarzofeldespáticas), que tuvo lugar en función de la posición paleogeográfica de las rocas marinas Jurásicas y del nivel de erosión alcanzado. Si comparamos los dos sectores de la cuenca, los fragmentos de roca plutónica no han sido observados en las areniscas del Grupo Tera en el sector occidental de la cuenca. Por lo tanto, se deduce un nivel de erosión del basamento más profundo en el sector occidental. La evolución de la procedencia desde petrofacies cuarzolíticas a petrofacies cuarzofeldespáticas registrada en los depósitos siliciclásticos del Grupo Tera se debe a una mayor influencia de los aportes transversales durante la sedimentación de los abanicos fluviales (cuarzolíticos) hacia una mayor influencia de aportes axiales durante la etapa fluvial (cuarzofeldespática). Esta variación en la procedencia representa la evolución desde un estadio de hombrera de rift no erosionada a estadios más avanzados del rifting (hombrera de rift erosionada) y el comienzo de un ciclo de procedencia en una cuenca de rift
Effective Free Energy for Individual Dynamics
Physics and economics are two disciplines that share the common challenge of
linking microscopic and macroscopic behaviors. However, while physics is based
on collective dynamics, economics is based on individual choices. This
conceptual difference is one of the main obstacles one has to overcome in order
to characterize analytically economic models. In this paper, we build both on
statistical mechanics and the game theory notion of Potential Function to
introduce a rigorous generalization of the physicist's free energy, which
includes individual dynamics. Our approach paves the way to analytical
treatments of a wide range of socio-economic models and might bring new
insights into them. As first examples, we derive solutions for a congestion

The Second INTEGRAL AGN Catalogue
The INTEGRAL mission provides a large data set for studying the hard X-ray
properties of AGN and allows testing of the unified scheme for AGN. We present
analysis of INTEGRAL IBIS/ISGRI, JEM-X, and OMC data for 199 AGN supposedly
detected by INTEGRAL above 20 keV. The data analysed here allow a significant
spectral extraction on 148 objects and an optical variability study of 57 AGN.
The slopes of the hard X-ray spectra of Seyfert 1 and Seyfert~2 galaxies are
found to be consistent within the uncertainties, whereas higher cut-off
energies and lower luminosities are measured for the more absorbed / type 2
AGN. The intermediate Seyfert 1.5 objects exhibit hard X-ray spectra consistent
with those of Seyfert 1. When applying a Compton reflection model, the
underlying continua appear the same in Seyfert 1 and 2 with photon index 2, and
the reflection strength is about R = 1, when assuming different inclination
angles. A significant correlation is found between the hard X-ray and optical
luminosity and the mass of the central black hole in the sense that the more
luminous objects appear to be more massive. There is also a general trend
toward the absorbed sources and type 2 AGN having lower Eddington ratios. The
black holemass appears to form a fundamental plane together with the optical
and X-ray luminosity of the form Lv being proportional to Lx^0.6 M^0.2, similar
to that found between radio luminosity Lr, Lx, and M. The unified model for
Seyfert galaxies seems to hold, showing in hard X-rays that the central engine
is the same in Seyfert 1 and 2, but seen under different inclination angles and

Can a Wi-Fi WLAN support a first person shooter?
In corporate and commercial environments, the deployment of a set of coordinated Wi-Fi APs is becoming a common solution to provide Internet coverage to moving users. In these scenarios, real-time services as online games can also be present. This paper presents a set of experiments developed in a test scenario where an end device moves between different APs while generating game traffic. A WLAN solution based on virtual APs is used, in order to make the handoffs transparent for Layer 3. The results show that it is possible to maintain an acceptable level of subjective quality during the handoff. At the same time, it is set clear that the fact of having a gamer in an AP could be taken into account by radio resource management algorithms, in order to provide a better quality
Stuffed Black Holes
Initial data corresponding to spacetimes containing black holes are
considered in the time symmetric case. The solutions are obtained by matching
across the apparent horizon different, conformally flat, spatial metrics. The
exterior metric is the vacuum solution obtained by the well known conformal
imaging method. The interior metric for every black hole is regular everywhere
and corresponds to a positive energy density. The resulting matched solutions
cover then the whole initial (Cauchy) hypersurface, without any singularity,
and can be useful for numerical applications. The simpler cases of one black
hole (Schwarzschild data) or two identical black holes (Misner data) are
explicitly solved. A procedure for extending this construction to the multiple
black hole case is also given, and it is shown to work for all time symmetric
vacuum solutions obtained by the conformal imaging method. The numerical
evolution of one such 'stuffed' black hole is compared with that of a pure

AGN Black Hole Masses and Bolometric Luminosities
Black hole mass, along with mass accretion rate, is a fundamental property of
active galactic nuclei. Black hole mass sets an approximate upper limit to AGN
energetics via the Eddington limit. We collect and compare all AGN black hole
mass estimates from the literature; these 177 masses are mostly based on the
virial assumption for the broad emission lines, with the broad-line region size
determined from either reverberation mapping or optical luminosity. We
introduce 200 additional black hole mass estimates based on properties of the
host galaxy bulges, using either the observed stellar velocity dispersion or
using the fundamental plane relation to infer ; these methods assume
that AGN hosts are normal galaxies. We compare 36 cases for which black hole
mass has been generated by different methods and find, for individual objects,
a scatter as high as a couple of orders of magnitude. The less direct the
method, the larger the discrepancy with other estimates, probably due to the
large scatter in the underlying correlations assumed. Using published fluxes,
we calculate bolometric luminosities for 234 AGNs and investigate the relation
between black hole mass and luminosity. In contrast to other studies, we find
no significant correlation of black hole mass with luminosity, other than those
induced by circular reasoning in the estimation of black hole mass. The
Eddington limit defines an approximate upper envelope to the distribution of
luminosities, but the lower envelope depends entirely on the sample of AGN
included. For any given black hole mass, there is a range in Eddington ratio of

Nuclear activity and massive star formation in the low luminosity AGN NGC4303: Chandra X-ray observations
We present evidence of the co-existence of either an AGN or an ultraluminous
X-ray source (ULX), together with a young super stellar cluster in the 3
central parsecs of NGC4303. The galaxy contains a low luminosity AGN and hosts
a number of starburst regions in a circumnuclear spiral, as well as in the
nucleus itself. A high spatial resolution Chandra image of this source reveals
that the soft X-ray emission traces the ultraviolet nuclear spiral down to a
core, which is unresolved both in soft and hard X-rays. The astrometry of the
X-ray core coincides with the UV core within the Chandra positioning accuracy.
The total X-ray luminosity of the core, 1.5*10^{39} erg/s, is similar to that
from some LINERs or from the weakest Seyferts detected so far. The soft X-rays
in both the core and the extended structure surrounding it can be well
reproduced by evolutionary synthesis models (which include the emission
expected from single stars, the hot diffuse gas, supernova remnants and binary
systems), consistent with the properties of the young stellar clusters
identified in the UV. The hard X-ray tail detected in the core spectrum,
however, most likely requires the presence of an additional source. This
additional source could either be a weak active nucleus black hole or an

Why non-technical skills matter in surgery. New paradigms for surgical leaders
The surgical literature is paying more and more attention to the topic of soft or non-technical skills (NTS), defined as
those cognitive and social skills that characterize high-performing individuals and teams. NTS are essential in supporting
surgeons in dealing with unexpected situations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, NTS have been considered crucial in
defining situation awareness, enhancing decision making, communicating among groups and teams, and fostering
leadership. With a “looking back and planning forward” approach, the current perspective aims at deepening the
contribution of NTS for surgeons to deal with the unexpected challenges posed by the COVID crisis, surgical emergencies,
the introduction of new technologies in clinical practice, to understand how such skills may help shape the surgical leaders
of the future
Knowledge in transition in healthcare
Organizations are challenged by the need to transform Dynamic Knowledge, embedded in each worker, into Static Knowledge, rooted in factual documental information. However, innovation and knowledge creation seem to be facilitated by the personal knowledge and life experiences of people, which appear to be dynamic. The tensions between Dynamic and Static Knowledge in facilitating the transfer and sharing of knowledge arise as compelling research as well as practical topic for organizations. Our paper aims to investigate such tensions by employing a case study. We decided to deepen such dynamics in the healthcare field, given its importance for business and society. In more detail, we analyzed one Emergency Room (ER) department through a series of interviews. Our findings highlight the importance of the right balance between Static and Dynamic Knowledge. On the one hand, the healthcare organization recognized the need to incorporate knowledge into practical and tangible instruments. On the other hand, the flows of Dynamic Knowledge must be fostered through a culture of knowledge translation and sharing, and the development of soft skills
Space-times admitting a three-parameter similarity group
Spacetimes admitting a similarity group are considered. Amongst them, special
attention is given to the 3-parameter ones. A classification of such spacetimes
is given based on the Bianchi type of the similarity group , and the
general form of the metric is provided in each case assuming the orbits are
