Properties of hadron and quark matter studied with a molecular dynamics

We study the hadron-quark phase transition in a molecular dynamics (MD) of quark degrees of freedom. The hadron state at low density and temperature, and the deconfined quark state at high density and temperature are observed in our model. We investigate the equations of state and draw the phase-diagram at wide baryon density and temperature range. We also discuss the transport property, e.g. viscosity, of qqˉq\bar{q} matter. It is found that the ratio of the shear viscosity to the entropy density is less than one for quark matter.Comment: Poster presentation at Quark Matter 200

ZQZ_Q Topological Invariants for Polyacetylene, Kagome and Pyrochlore lattices

    Get PDF
Adiabatic ZQZ_Q invariants by quantized Berry phases are defined for gapped electronic systems in dd-dimensions (Q=d+1Q=d+1). This series includes Polyacetylene, Kagome and Pyrochlore lattice respectively for d=1,2d=1,2 and 3. The invariants are quantum QQ-multimer order parameters to characterize the topological phase transitions by the multimerization. This fractional quantization is protected by the global ZQZ_Q equivalence. As for the chiral symmetric case, a topological form of the Z2Z_2-invariant is explicitly given as well.Comment: 4 pgages, 4 figure

Exciton diffusion in air-suspended single-walled carbon nanotubes

Direct measurements of the diffusion length of excitons in air-suspended single-walled carbon nanotubes are reported. Photoluminescence microscopy is used to identify individual nanotubes and to determine their lengths and chiral indices. Exciton diffusion length is obtained by comparing the dependence of photoluminescence intensity on the nanotube length to numerical solutions of diffusion equations. We find that the diffusion length in these clean, as-grown nanotubes is significantly longer than those reported for micelle-encapsulated nanotubes.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Superconductivity without Local Inversion Symmetry; Multi-layer Systems

While multi-layer systems can possess global inversion centers, they can have regions with locally broken inversion symmetry. This can modify the superconducting properties of such a system. Here we analyze two dimensional multi-layer systems yielding spatially modulated antisymmetric spin-orbit coupling (ASOC) and discuss superconductivity with mixed parity order parameters. In particular, the influence of ASOC on the spin susceptibility is investigated at zero temperature. For weak inter-layer coupling we find an enhanced spin susceptibility induced by ASOC, which hints the potential importance of this aspect for superconducting phase in specially structured superlattices.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, proceedings of the 26th International Conference on Low Temperature Physics (LT26

Anisotropic Decay Dynamics of Photoexcited Aligned Carbon Nanotube Bundles

We have performed polarization-dependent ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy of a film of aligned single-walled carbon nanotube bundles. By taking into account imperfect nanotube alignment as well as anisotropic absorption cross sections, we quantitatively determined distinctly different photo-bleaching dynamics for polarizations parallel and perpendicular to the tube axis. For perpendicular polarization, we observe a slow (1.0-1.5 ps) relaxation process, previously unobserved in randomly-oriented nanotube bundles. We attribute this slower dynamics to the excitation and relaxation of surface plasmons in the radial direction of the nanotube bundles.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Online Self-Indexed Grammar Compression

Although several grammar-based self-indexes have been proposed thus far, their applicability is limited to offline settings where whole input texts are prepared, thus requiring to rebuild index structures for given additional inputs, which is often the case in the big data era. In this paper, we present the first online self-indexed grammar compression named OESP-index that can gradually build the index structure by reading input characters one-by-one. Such a property is another advantage which enables saving a working space for construction, because we do not need to store input texts in memory. We experimentally test OESP-index on the ability to build index structures and search query texts, and we show OESP-index's efficiency, especially space-efficiency for building index structures.Comment: To appear in the Proceedings of the 22nd edition of the International Symposium on String Processing and Information Retrieval (SPIRE2015
