COLON: The largest COlonoscopy LONg sequence public database
Colorectal cancer is the third most aggressive cancer worldwide. Polyps, as
the main biomarker of the disease, are detected, localized, and characterized
through colonoscopy procedures. Nonetheless, during the examination, up to 25%
of polyps are missed, because of challenging conditions (camera movements,
lighting changes), and the close similarity of polyps and intestinal folds.
Besides, there is a remarked subjectivity and expert dependency to observe and
detect abnormal regions along the intestinal tract. Currently, publicly
available polyp datasets have allowed significant advances in computational
strategies dedicated to characterizing non-parametric polyp shapes. These
computational strategies have achieved remarkable scores of up to 90% in
segmentation tasks. Nonetheless, these strategies operate on cropped and
expert-selected frames that always observe polyps. In consequence, these
computational approximations are far from clinical scenarios and real
applications, where colonoscopies are redundant on intestinal background with
high textural variability. In fact, the polyps typically represent less than 1%
of total observations in a complete colonoscopy record. This work introduces
COLON: the largest COlonoscopy LONg sequence dataset with around of 30 thousand
polyp labeled frames and 400 thousand background frames. The dataset was
collected from a total of 30 complete colonoscopies with polyps at different
stages, variations in preparation procedures, and some cases the observation of
surgical instrumentation. Additionally, 10 full intestinal background video
control colonoscopies were integrated in order to achieve a robust
polyp-background frame differentiation. The COLON dataset is open to the
scientific community to bring new scenarios to propose computational tools
dedicated to polyp detection and segmentation over long sequences, being closer
to real colonoscopy scenarios.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, 3 table
Tesi

Leadership challenges for disabled students programs and services in the California community colleges : a phenomenological exploration of the lived experience of mid level administrators
The purposes of this phenomenological inquiry was to examine the challenges faced by administrative leaders of Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) at California community colleges (CCC) from the perspectives of current practitioners. This study was undertaken for the following reasons: (a) the increasing number of students with disabilities accessing the CCC has implications for the colleges' abilities to serve this population effectively; (b) every CCC campus is mandated to employ a designated coordinator for DSPS, the leadership skills of whom can have a direct impact on the educational access and success of students with disabilities; and (c) the anticipated leadership crisis in DSPS administration due to the retirement of current coordinators leads to a need for information concerning skills needed by DSPS administrators. The research design used an interpretive social science philosophical approach and phenomenological method. Two research questions guided the inquiry: (a) What are the leadership challenges experienced by DSPS mid-level administrators? (b) Which leadership knowledge and skills are needed to deal with the challenges? Six mid-level administrators of DSPS at a California community college were interviewed regarding: (a) the challenges they face leading their programs; and (b) the skills and knowledge needed to address these challenges. Data emerging from these interviews were analyzed resulting in the identification of several themes about the challenges these leaders faced and what skills and knowledge needed to effectively address those challenges. The significance of this study is threefold. The first is to give voice to the lived experiences of a group of mid–level community college administrators who lead disability services programs. The second is to identify the specific challenges to leading these programs based on the insights gained from the review of the relevant literature and the perceptions of the practitioners interviewed. The third is to add to the currently limited scholarly literature regarding the challenges of leading disability support programs for college students from the perspective of the program leaders. Given these insights and literature related to the topic, the study's findings offered several implications for these student affairs professionals as well as the practice of leading DSPS on the CCC campus

The Role of Astrocytes in Remyelination.
Remyelination is the regeneration of myelin sheaths following demyelination. This regenerative process is critical for the re-establishment of axonal conduction velocity and metabolic support to the axons. Successful remyelination in the CNS generally depends on the activation, proliferation, and differentiation of oligodendrocyte progenitor cells (OPCs). However, other cell types play critical roles in establishing where a lesion is conducive for regeneration. In the last few years, several studies have described beneficial and detrimental roles played by astrocytes in remyelination. This review will discuss recent developments in the concept of astrocyte reactivity, what is known about the astrocytic contribution to remyelination, and highlight future avenues of investigation. The authors’ laboratory is supported by funding from the UK Multiple Sclerosis Society (MS50), The Adelson Medical Research Foundation, and a core support grant from the Wellcome and MRC to the Wellcome-Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (203151/Z/16/Z). Inbound marketing strategy on social media and the generation of experiences in fast food consumers
Digital media has allowed restaurants to maintain their sales, positioning, and better
relationships with consumers in adverse situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
This study seeks to determine the relationship between social networks as an inbound
marketing tool and the generation of digital experiences in consumers of fast-food
restaurants. This is a quantitative, correlational, and non-experimental analysis. The
sample includes the most popular fast-food restaurants in Peru (Norky’s, Roky’s, and
Kentucky Fried Chicken) that demonstrate significant presence in social networks and
possess potential characteristics to provide customers with a positive experience. One
hundred one respondents between 18 and 35 years of age, residents of Lima (Peru),
and frequent consumers of fast food establishments were surveyed via Google Forms.
The results were tabulated in MS Excel and the quantitative data analysis was performed
with the IBM SPSS tool; descriptive and inferential statistics were applied and
the correlation was obtained through Spearman’s coefficient. The findings highlighted
that 61.39% of the respondents agree that the social network experiences of the restaurants
influence their expectations; 47.5% react with likes and comments to the publications,
and 63.4% recommend the restaurants thanks to the constant dissemination of
their content. Finally, a significance level of less than 0.05 was obtained between the
variables, demonstrating that one variable has a relationship with the other. The study
concludes a moderate direct relationship between social networks as an inbound marketing
strategy and the generation of digital experiences in the study group
