Abilities to adaptation for changes, readiness to completion, changing qualifactions is becoming important in the contexts of intensifying changes in different areas of our life. Article is raport of resarch which aims to find answer to a question: what is the level of readiness for changes between students. The measure was realized with the use of quantity strategy of research. The methods of diagnostic survey and questionnaire of readiness for changes by Robert Kriegel and David Brandt (translated by Anna Paszkowskiej-Rogacz) were used in research. The form consists of 35 items describing: beliefs, attitude and behaviours in diffrent everyday life situations. Respondents give an answer with the use of 6-degree scale. Thanks to this we can identify seven following features: creativity, drive and passion, self-confidence, optimism, taking a risk, adaptation skills and tolerance of insecurity. The participants of the research were students taking part in the project UNI-KOMP-AS from humanistic-social faculties. The results show that respondents present high level of readiness for changes. Respondents have positive opinion of surrounding reality (89,1%). They claim that failures don’t demotivate them. They draw conclusions for the future. They accept the possibility of new elements showing in their tasks. Majority of respondents present that they take the day as it is.Umiejętność przystosowania się do zmian, gotowość do uzupełniania, zmieniania wykształcenia staje się ważna w kontekście nasilenia przemian w różnych dziedzinach naszego życia. Do prowadzonych badań wykorzystano Kwestionariusz gotowości do zmiany autorstwa Roberta Kriegela i Davida Brandta, w tłumaczeniu Anny Paszkowskiej-Rogacz. Formularz zawiera 35 twierdzeń opisujących przekonania, postawy i zachowania dotyczące różnych sytuacji życiowych. Badany odpowiada, korzystając z sześciostopniowej skali. Umożliwia to identyfikację siedmiu następujących cech: pomysłowości, napędu, pewności siebie, optymizmu, podejmowania ryzyka, zdolności adaptacyjnych i tolerancji niepewności. W projekcie UNI-KOMP-AS brali udział studenci kierunków humanistyczno-społecznych.

A novel tibial tuberosity advancement technique with cranial implant fixation (TTA CF): a pilot study in sheep

Abstract Background Cranial cruciate ligament rupture is the most frequent orthopedic disorder in human and animals. An array of surgical techniques have been described to stabilize the stifle joint in dogs, including intraarticular stabilization, extraarticular stabilization, and tibial osteotomy techniques. Tibial plateau leveling osteotomy and tibial tuberosity advancement with a lot of modifications are the most common. In this study we report the possibility of fixing the novel titanium implant for tibial tuberosity advancement with two screws in a craniocaudal direction. The aim of our study was to improve the clinical benefit of the tibial tuberosity advancement surgical technique where an attempt was made to reduce the number of screws and obtain a strong implant fixation with minimal bone traumatization. This way of attachment allows to distribute the forces evenly on medial and lateral side of osteotomy gap. Results Tibial tuberosity advancement with cranial implant fixation was performed in four sheep. Complete radiographic and clinical follow up was recorded. All four sheep had a complete osteotomy line healing at a mean of 10 weeks postoperative (range 8–12 weeks). None of the animals had osteotomy gap healing grades of poor. Minor complication included the minimally cracked Maquet hole on the postoperative radiographs, without displacement of the tibial crest which occurred in 2 sheep. Major complication grade 1, major complication grade 2 and catastrophic were not found. Conclusions The novel surgical technique for tibial tuberosity advancement with cranial implant fixation is technically comparable to the recent trend in tuberosity advancement techniques, where partial osteotomy of the cranial tibial tuberosity crest is performed. A cranial implant fixation allows to distribute the forces evenly on medial and lateral side of osteotomy gap, which may result in less number of major complications in dogs. A novel titanium implant decreases the tibial traumatisation by reducing the number of screws

Association between enzootic pneumonia-like lung lesions and carcass quality and meat pH value in slaughter pigs

Simple Summary The prevalence of respiratory diseases in slaughter pigs ranges from 19% to 74%. Despite all efforts made to reduce economic losses caused by this condition, respiratory diseases continue to be an important concern for swine herds worldwide. However, few studies have investigated the relationship between respiratory disease and pork quality. The general aim of this study was to investigate the association between the respiratory health of slaughter pigs from different farms and carcass and meat quality. The main findings of this research confirm the negative influence of respiratory diseases on pork quality, resulting in a weight and meatiness reduction and deviation in pH value from the norm. This implies that lung lesions in slaughter pigs negatively influence not only animal health, welfare, and performance but also carcass quality. Although the prevalence of respiratory diseases in slaughter pigs ranges from 19% to 74% and continues to be an important concern for swine herds worldwide, only a few studies have investigated the relationship between respiratory disease and pork quality. The general aim of this study was to investigate associations between the prevalence and severity of enzootic pneumonia-like lesions in Polish slaughter pigs on different carcass and meat-quality characteristics at the animal and herd levels. The average prevalence of bronchopneumonic lungs with different degrees of lesions was 94.57%. The majority of lesions indicated the acute stage of enzootic pneumonia. Our results indicate a statistically significant interaction between the mean weight of carcasses depending on the extent of the lesions (p = 0.04) at the animal level. The correlation between meatiness and severity of lung lesions was r = -0.25 (p = 0.00). The correlation between the extent of lung lesions and pH(45) value was r = -0.17 (p = 0.005) on the animal level and r = -0.63 (p = 0.017) at the herd level. This implies that lung lesions in slaughter pigs negatively influence not only animal health and welfare, but also carcass quality
