    Inundaciones y cambio climático

    Las inundaciones de los ríos han sucedido de forma tradicional en numerosos ríos de la Península Ibérica, aportando grandes beneficios en la agricultura y en la disponibilidad de recursos hídricos, pero en la historia más reciente han originado graves daños en personas y bienes haciendo que hoy día predomine una percepción de las inundaciones como “catástrofes”. En el origen del incremento de la frecuencia de las inundaciones hay que mencionar la intensificación del uso del territorio, sellando y compactando los suelos haciendo que aumenten las escorrentías rápidas, y la alteración hidromorfológica de los ríos, concentrando las aguas y favoreciendo la ocurrencia de avenidas y desbordamientos. En el incremento exponencial de las pérdidas que las inundaciones han originado en los últimos años hay que referirse a la intensa ocupación de las riberas de los ríos y sus llanuras de inundación por personas y actividades económicas, con un desarrollo en dichas zonas no compatible con la dinámica fluvial. El cambio climático es considerado un factor de riesgo adicional muy variable según las regiones, y la estimación de sus efectos sobre las inundaciones presenta todavía numerosas incertidumbres. Atendiendo a ello se revisan algunos estudios e informes relacionados con el fenómeno de las inundaciones y su posible relación con el cambio climático, y se propone la restauración de los sistemas fluviales y la restricción de usos en las zonas inundables como estrategias más acertadas para hacer frente a la mencionada problemática de las inundaciones y a la incertidumbre creada con el cambio climático. El análisis de los sucesivos paradigmas históricos planteados por el hombre frente a las inundaciones de los ríos pone en evidencia el interés de cambiar unas estrategias de “defensa” en contra de ellas, tratando de evitar que ocurran, por otras de “convivencia” con las mismas gestionando de la forma más apropiada el riesgo de los daños que pueden generar, atendiendo al espíritu de las Directivas europeas Marco del Agua y de evaluación y gestión del riesgo de la inundación

    Role of bacterial community composition as a driver of the small-sized phytoplankton community structure in a productive coastal system

    Financiado para publicación en acceso aberto: Universidade de Vigo/CISUGWe present here the first detailed description of the seasonal patterns in bacterial community composition (BCC) in shelf waters off the Ría de Vigo (Spain), based on monthly samplings during 2 years. Moreover, we studied the relationship between bacterial and small-sized eukaryotic community composition to identify potential biotic interactions among components of these two communities. Bacterial operational taxonomic unit (OTU) richness and diversity systematically peaked in autumn–winter, likely related to low resource availability during this period. BCC showed seasonal and vertical patterns, with Rhodobacteraceae and Flavobacteriaceae families dominating in surface waters, and SAR11 clade dominating at the base of the photic zone (30 m depth). BCC variability was significantly explained by environmental variables (e.g., temperature of water, solar radiation, or dissolved organic matter). Interestingly, a strong and significant correlation was found between BCC and small-sized eukaryotic community composition (ECC), which suggests that biotic interactions may play a major role as structuring factors of the microbial plankton in this productive area. In addition, co-occurrence network analyses revealed strong and significant, mostly positive, associations between bacteria and small-sized phytoplankton. Positive associations likely result from mutualistic relationships (e.g., between Dinophyceae and Rhodobacteraceae), while some negative correlations suggest antagonistic interactions (e.g., between Pseudo-nitzchia sp. and SAR11). These results support the key role of biotic interactions as structuring factors of the small-sized eukaryotic community, mostly driven by positive associations between small-sized phytoplankton and bacteria.Xunta de Galicia | Ref.     Estimación de la humedad de tapones de corcho mediante medida de la resistencia electrica

    En este trabajo se exponen los resultados obtenidos en el Departamento de Productos Forestales del CIFOR-INIA sobre la relación entre la resistencia eléctrica y el contenido de humedad de los tapones de corcho. Estos resultados muestran que los medidores de humedad utilizados habitualmente en la industria pueden alcanzar una precisión elevada, siempre y cuando se tenga en cuenta la influencia de los distintos factores que afectan a la relación resistencia eléctrica-humedad: tipo de tapón, dirección de la medida, temperatura del material.     Failure Diagnosis on Photovoltaic Modules Using Thermography, Electroluminescence, Rgb and I-V Techniques

    Different techniques can be used to detect and quantify PV modules anomalies, as visual inspections, electrical tests like the I-V curve test, infrared thermography (IRT) or electroluminescence (EL). PV plants operators usually apply only one or two of them within the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) activities. Additionally, researchers usually studied them separately. However, these methods provide complementary results, glimpsing interesting information about the PV site state. The main strength of the research performed is the simultaneous study of all these inspection techniques, studying the correlation between them. Results confirm that, EL and IRT under current injection on modules are closely correlated, while IRT under normal operation (sun exposure) reveals complementary information not detected in EL but existing in the visible spectrum.     The influence of the moisture content on the electrical resistance of two types of cork stoppers

    The relationship between the log of the electrical resistance (ER; measured using pin electrodes) and the moisture content (MC) have not been reported in any form of cork. That is important for the cork stoppers industry because it should help in the design and verification of more precise devices for measuring cork moisture content. In this study, using linear regression techniques, different regression models of the type log(Log(R) + 1) = axh + b were derived to describe the relationship ERMC, that was measured using pin electrodes on two types of cork stoppers [natural (N) and agglomerate(AG)]. The results obtained show that in the models proposed, the moisture content of AG cork stoppers can be estimated with an error of ± 0.3%, while that of N stoppers can be estimated with an error of 0.5%. Neither the geographical origin of the N corks nor the surface treatment to which the AG corks were subjected significantly affected the proposed models. Therefore, the moisture content of cork stoppers could be measured at the industrial scale using electrical resistancetype moisture meter

    Influence of Large Periods of DC Current Injection in c-Si Photovoltaic Panels

    Nowadays, electroluminescence imaging (Eli) appears as an emerging technique in the maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) plants. There is a concern about how the current injection needed in ELi measurements can affect the PV modules service life, and how these periodical inspections can affect the long term life of the modules. In order to give a practical answer to this problem, a series of tests consisting of long periods of current injection on several monocrystalline silicon modules has been carried out. The modules tested had already fulfilled their useful life and present multiple defects. In order to analyze how the current injection affects the state of the module, images of infrared thermography (IRT) and ELi were acquired during the current injection period.     X-linked ichthyosis (XLI) is a relatively common keratinization disorder which is caused, in the vast majority of cases, by a total deletion of the sulfatase steroid (STS) gene. Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is a scarring form of epidermolysis bullosa of either autosomal recessive or dominant inheritance secondary to collagen VII gene mutations. We report the first case of a patient with both XLI and DEB in whom a partial deletion of the STS gene and a recessive point mutation in COL7A1 were demonstrated

    Tandem ASCT has been suggested as a valid approach to improve the prognosis of patients with MM and HR cytogenetic. In this observational, retrospective study, 213 patients with newly diagnosed MM and HR cytogenetic in 35 hospitals from the Spanish Myeloma Group underwent single or tandem ASCT between January 2015 and December 2019 after induction with VTD/VRD. HR cytogenetic was defined as having ≥1 of the following: del17p, t(4;14), t(14;16) or gain 1q21. More patients in the tandem group had R-ISS 3 and >1 cytogenetic abnormality at diagnosis. With a median follow-up of 31 months (range, 10–82), PFS after single ASCT was 41 months versus 48 months with tandem ASCT (p = 0.33). PFS in patients with del17p undergoing single ASCT was 41 months, while 52% of patients undergoing tandem ASCT were alive and disease free at 48 months.
