Reaction time on fencing and karate high level athletes
The great speed of the actions in combat sports makes very difficult to react quickJy without mistakes. If the fighter had longer time to react, their reaction would be more accurate. This fact gives relevance to choice lime reaction (CRT) studies on these kinds of sports. The importance of the athletes1 physical or psychological abilities varies depending on the sporl played. According to the requirements of the speciality, players who reach Ihe maximum level will be those who have the characteristics requested to compete on it. These abilities could be innate or "life-long" acquired by training. Previous studies have not confirmed yet in which sports reaction time is more important, in addition, previous measurements should be considered with caution because some of Ihem included movement time in the reaction time results (Martmez de Quel, 2003). An approach to gel further knowledge about this subject, it is comparing the results of e\perts in two or more disciplines with unspecific tests, in which previous sport experience is not required in order to perform the lest
Self-Esteem at University: Proposal of an Artificial Neural Network Based on Resilience, Stress, and Sociodemographic Variables
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a useful predictive tool for a wide variety of fields of knowledge. Despite this, the educational field is still an environment that lacks a variety of studies that use this type of predictive tools. In parallel, it is postulated that the levels of self-esteem in the university environment may be related to the strategies implemented to solve problems. For these reasons, the aim of this study was to analyze the levels of self-esteem presented by teaching staff and students at university (N = 290, 73.1% female) and to design an algorithm capable of predicting these levels on the basis of their coping strategies, resilience, and sociodemographic variables. For this purpose, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Brief Resilience Scale were administered. The results showed a relevant role of resilience and stress perceived in predicting participants’ self-esteem levels. The findings highlight the usefulness of artificial neural networks for predicting psychological variables in education
Analysis of the presence of sustainability in Higher Education Degrees of the Spanish university system
This paper analyzes the extent to which sustainability is present in the
curricula of the 16 Education Degree programs belonging to the
EDINSOST project: 6 Early Childhood Education Degrees, 7 Primary
Education Degrees, 2 Pedagogy Degrees and 1 Social Education Degree.
The results obtained suggest that sustainability is present in all Degrees,
but not uniformly so. A great disparity is observed in the number of
subjects that develop sustainability, with an average of 22.63 subjects
per Degree. The competency most present is the
‘
Application of ethical
principles related to the values of sustainability in personal and
professional behaviors,
’
while the least present is
‘
Sustainable use of
resources and prevention of negative impacts on the natural and social
environment.
’Sustainability is not developed uniformly in the different
universities either. Three universities (UAM, UCA and UIC) develop
sustainability competencies at 100%, while others such as the USAL do
so at only 50
Reinforcement and Curriculum Learning for Off-Road Navigation of an UGV with a 3D LiDAR
This paper presents the use of deep Reinforcement Learning (RL) for autonomous navigation
of an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) with an onboard three-dimensional (3D) Light Detection
and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor in off-road environments. For training, both the robotic simulator
Gazebo and the Curriculum Learning paradigm are applied. Furthermore, an Actor–Critic Neural
Network (NN) scheme is chosen with a suitable state and a custom reward function. To employ the
3D LiDAR data as part of the input state of the NNs, a virtual two-dimensional (2D) traversability
scanner is developed. The resulting Actor NN has been successfully tested in both real and simulated
experiments and favorably compared with a previous reactive navigation approach on the same UGV.Partial funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málag
Development of two Spanish versions of the Verbal Selective Reminding Test
The Selective Reminding procedure has become a widely used test for evaluating verbal learning and memory. However, since this test was mainly devised for use in English speaking individuals, disadvantages could appear when translations of the test are applied to Spanish speaking patients. To overcome these difficulties, two Spanish versions of the Verbal Selective Reminding Test were devised and administered to 48 healthy individuals, 19-31 years in age, in two separate sessions. We found that performances on the two forms were comparable, except for one measure. All the variables on both forms yielded significant positive correlations. We also examined test-retest reliability separately for both possible orders, with Order 2 (Form 2 administered first) being more reliable than Order 1 (Form 1 administered first)
Article Mindfulness Abilities Are Associated with Anxiety Levels, Emotional Intelligence, and Perceived Self-Efficacy
This study examined the relationship between anxiety, emotional intelligence, perceived
self-efficacy, and mindfulness abilities. A total of 205 Spanish university students were assessed for
mindfulness (Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory-14), state-trait anxiety (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory),
emotional intelligence (Trait Meta-Mood Scale-24), and general perceived self-efficacy (General Self-
Efficacy Scale). The Student’s t-test was used to evaluate the possible differences between sexes for the
study variables. Multiple regression analyses were conducted for each sex independently to evaluate
the relationship between mindfulness and the other psychological variables, using mindfulness
dimensions as a dependent variable. The results showed significant differences between females
and males in mindfulness dimensions of self-control (p < 0.001) and acceptance (p = 0.012), and
state (p = 0.005) and trait anxiety (p < 0.001). Multiple linear regression analyses revealed that the
models for the relationship between mindfulness dimensions (attention, self-control, acceptance, and
self-perception) and the other variables differed between females and males. Our results suggest that
anxiety, emotional intelligence, and general perceived self-efficacy may be related to mindfulness abilities
among a sample of Spanish university students. These findings could inform the development
of targeted intervention programs to improve these psycho-emotional abilities
Burnout, Resilience, and COVID-19 among Teachers: Predictive Capacity of an Artificial Neural Network
Emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and work inefficiency are three dimensions that define
burnout syndrome among teachers. On another note, resilience can be understood as the ability to
adapt to the environment and overcome adverse situations. In addition, COVID-19 has provided
a threatening environment that has led to the implementation of resilience strategies to struggle
with burnout and cope with the virus. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship
between resilience, burnout dimensions, and variables associated with COVID-19 through the design
of an artificial neural network architecture. For this purpose, the Maslach Burnout InventoryGeneral Survey (MBI-GS), the Brief Resilience Coping Scale (BRCS), and a questionnaire on stress
towards COVID-19 were administered to 419 teachers from secondary schools in southeastern
Spain (292 females; 69.7%). The results showed that 30.8% suffered from burnout (high emotional
exhaustion, high cynicism, and low professional efficacy) and that 38.7% had a high level of resilience,
with an inverse relationship between both constructs. Likewise, we modelled an ANN able to predict
burnout syndrome among 97.4% of teachers based on its dimensions, resilience, sociodemographic
variables, and the stress generated by COVID-19. Our conclusions shed some light on the efficacy
of relying on artificial intelligence in the educational field to predict the psychological situation of
teachers and take early action
Analysis of the rear leg rotation movement during the fencing lunge
The most relevant aulhois of fencing agree on the extension of the rear leg's knee from the on guard position, which is the ona thai provides ihe real speed to the lunge, and the extension of the arm only serves to drive the points towards the target. All the authors coincide thai it is important to keep the whole sole of the rear Foot supported on the Boor, keeping the same direction and without sliding it during the movernent, being the only one support that assures a really fast and balanced lunge, allowing the return to the on guard position or to continue towards ahead. Nevertheless, in a competition it may be observed that there are just a few fencers that keep the position of the feet in 90° angle during the lunge, as proposed in the fencing books. From this situation, we try to know if the rotation movement of the rear leg improve the speed of the Mass Centre and the weapon
