Personal style bloggers : the most popular visual composition principles and themes on instagram

    Get PDF
Instagram is one of the main social networking services personal style bloggers choose for interacting with followers. The goal of the present study is to detect the most common principles of visual composition and themes used by the world’s ten most influential bloggers. To achieve this goal we have employed a content analysis, using a sample of 503 Instagram images. The results indicate that the bloggers’ visual pattern of choice on Instagram corresponds to a wide shot with a full body view of the blogger against a significant background. The shot is taken at eye level angle and the predominant visual elements —the blogger and/or the product— are located in the centre of the photograp

Flow Cytometry Applied to the Diagnosis of Primary Immunodeficiencies

    Get PDF
Primary immunodeficiencies are the result of biological defects associated with functional immune abnormalities. It consists of a group of disorders showing a higher incidence and severity of infections, expression of immunological dysregulation such as inflammation and lymphoproliferation. The immunophenotyping and in vitro functional characterization of immunodeficient patients contribute, together with the clinical aspects, to define the underlying immune defect particularities. Flow cytometry applications in primary immunodeficiency assessment are multiple and include the study of a wide range of specific cell lymphocyte subpopulations. This chapter describes the main techniques used in the diagnosis of a wide variety of primary immunodeficiencies, in which intracellular proteins or activation markers involved in immunity are evaluated, as well as functional proliferation, cytokine production, phosphorylation of transcription factors, cytotoxic and degranulation capacity. Flow cytometry is a tool that allows rapid and accurate evaluation of multiple lymphocyte populations and immunological function, and this information is essential for the diagnosis and evaluation of patients with primary immunodeficiencies

With this end of degree project we intend to analyze the most popular games for children when it comes to playing with their friends. This was we can identify the stereotypes that still exist today in the educational field because of a patriarchal society. Therefore, we have a need to implant a coeducational system in the classrooms, removing said stereotypes and inducing equality between sexes. Starting with the above, this project is a proposal for a coeducational intervention in year 5, which will be carried out in two public schools in the province of Seville, using the technique of an open questionnaire before and after making the suggestion to observe the reality of such action. To conclude, despite obtaining a positive evolution by the students in the results, it is fundamental to continue introducing coeducation in the schools, since it is a goal that requires time and must begin with the teachers, who should remain in continuous training in this subject.Universidad de Sevilla. Assessment of Haloferax mediterranei Genome in Search of Copper-Molecular Machinery With Potential Applications for Bioremediation

    Get PDF
Heavy metals are essential micronutrients at low concentrations, serving as cofactors for relevant microbial enzymes (i.e., respiratory nitrate and nitrite reductases NADH dehydrogenase-2, amine oxidase, etc.), but they become harmful cellular intoxicants at significant low concentrations compared to other chemical compounds. The increasing need to incorporate bioremediation in the removal of heavy metals and other contaminants from wastewaters has led extremophiles to the spotlight of research. The haloarchaeon Haloferax mediterranei has promising physiological characteristics regarding bioremediation. However, little is known about how haloarchaea manage to resist high concentrations of heavy metals in the environment. The aim of this work is to develop bioinformatics research as the first step for further omics-based studies to shed light on copper metabolism in haloarchaea by analyzing H. mediterranei genome (strain ATCC 33500). To reach this aim, genome and protein databases have been consulted, and copper-related genes have been identified. BLAST analysis has been carried out to find similarities between copper resistance genes described from other microorganisms and H. mediterranei genes. Plausible copper importer genes, genes coding for siderophores, and copper exporters belonging to P1B-type ATPase group have been found apart from genes encoding copper chaperones, metal-responsive transcriptional regulators, and several proteins belonging to the cupredoxin superfamily: nitrite reductase, nitrous oxide reductases, cytochrome c oxidases, multicopper oxidases, and small blue copper proteins from the amicyanin/pseudoazurin families as halocyanins. As the presence of heavy metals causes oxidative stress, genes coding for proteins involved in antioxidant mechanisms have been also explored: thioredoxin, glutaredoxin, peroxiredoxin, catalase, and γ-glutamylcysteine as an analog of glutathione. Bioinformatic-based analysis of H. mediterranei genome has revealed a set of genes involved in copper metabolism that could be of interest for bioremediation purposes. The analysis of genes involved in antioxidative mechanisms against heavy metals makes it possible to infer the capability of H. mediterranei to synthesize inorganic polyphosphate granules against oxidative stress. The authors thank the following institutions for funding this research: MICINN Spain (RTI2018-099860-B-I00), Generalitat Valenciana, Spain (PROMETEO/2021/055), and University of Alicante, Spain (VIGROB-309)

Iridoids, which have beneficial health properties, include a wide group of cyclopentane [c] pyran monoterpenoids present in plants and insects. The cleavage of the cyclopentane ring leads to secoiridoids. Mainly, secoiridoids have shown a variety of pharmacological effects including anti-diabetic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, neuroprotective, anti-cancer, and anti-obesity, which increase the interest of studying these types of bioactive compounds in depth. Secoiridoids are thoroughly distributed in several families of plants such as Oleaceae, Valerianaceae, Gentianaceae and Pedialaceae, among others. Specifically, Olea europaea L. (Oleaceae) is rich in oleuropein (OL), dimethyl-OL, and ligstroside secoiridoids, and their hydrolysis derivatives are mostly OL-aglycone, oleocanthal (OLE), oleacein (OLA), elenolate, oleoside-11-methyl ester, elenoic acid, hydroxytyrosol (HTy), and tyrosol (Ty). These compounds have proved their efficacy in the management of diabetes, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders, cancer, and viral and microbial infections. Particularly, the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties of secoiridoids from the olive tree (Olea europaea L. (Oleaceae)) have been suggested as a potential application in a large number of inflammatory and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated diseases. Thus, the purpose of this review is to summarize recent advances in the protective role of secoiridoids derived from the olive tree (preclinical studies and clinical trials) in diseases with an important pathogenic contribution of oxidative and peroxidative stress and damage, focusing on their plausible mechanisms of the action involved.España Ministerio de Economía y Competitivida

This research was carried out within the project: Hybrid Learning Models for Educational Intervention with Unaccompanied Foreign Minors (UFMs). Effective Tools for School and Social Integration were subsidized by the excellence projects and state research agency, Call 2017, the autonomous governments of Melilla City and Ceuta City.Spain is one of the countries with the greatest influx of immigrants and, specifically, of unaccompanied foreign minors (UFMs). The educational and social inclusion of unaccompanied foreign minors poses both a challenge and a threat to current policy. Nonetheless, studies linking educational aspects to the phenomenon of the integration of these children are scarce and do not specify the most influential educational tools and strategies. In this sense, a descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional research study is presented. The aim of this study is to examine whether variables such as age and the use of applications and social networks determine the personal learning environments (PLE) of unaccompanied foreign minors. The sample of the present study was formed by 624 individuals (♂ = 92.1% (n = 575); ♀ = 7.9% (n = 49)) aged between 8 and 17 years old. The majority came from Morocco and resided in the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The “PLE and Social Integration of UFMs” questionnaire was used as the study instrument. Amongst the main findings, significant differences are highlighted in the personal learning environments as a function of age-related psychosocial factors as they pertain to unaccompanied foreign minors. Four factors were seen to exist in relation to the personal learning environments of unaccompanied foreign minors: self-concept of the learning process, planning and management of learning, use of resources and tools, and communication and social interaction. The same trend was observed in the four factors, with older age groups reporting better scores. On the other hand, results show that the use of applications and social networks have a significant and favourable impact on personal learning environment construction.R + D + R National Project: Hybrid Learning Models for Educational InterventionUnaccompanied Foreign Minors (UFMs)Effective Tools for School and Social Integration EDU2017 88641-
