The main objective of this study was to determine the extent to which the rights and obligations of teachers and the educational community are accepted by the parents of children enrolled in primary and high schools. This was a descriptive study. The questionnaire “Duties and obligations of teachers in the educational community” was used as the assessment instrument. The results show that parents considered the rights and obligations presented to be of great importance, with no significant differences observed in terms of ownership of schools, the post parents held in the association, or the age or sex of the participants

We conducted a descriptive study to determine whether there are significant differences in the perceptions that mothers, fathers and teachers have of teachers’ rights and obligations and of the possibilities for collaboration. To collect the data, we used a questionnaire entitled "Rights and obligations of teachers in the educational community" (Larrosa, 2009). 394 teachers and 348 parents of students throughout Spain participated. The results support the hypothesis in Primary but not in Secondary Education, where substantial changes would be required in order for schools to benefit from parental collaboration. We conclude that teachers’ rights and obligations could serve to promote collaboration between schools and families and to help achieve a balance between the rights of parents to participate and teachers’ professional autonomy

    Get PDF

Cyclodextrin-based multivalent glycodisplays: Covalent and supramolecular conjugates to assess carbohydrate-protein interactions

    Get PDF
Covalent attachment of biorecognizable sugar ligands in several copies at precise positions of cyclomaltooligosaccharide (cyclodextrin, CD) macrocycles has proven to be an extremely flexible strategy to build multivalent conjugates. The commercial availability of the native CDs in three different sizes, their axial symmetry and the possibility of position- and face-selective functionalization allow a strict control of the valency and spatial orientation of the recognition motifs (glycotopes) in low, medium, high and hyperbranched glycoclusters, including glycodendrimer-CD hybrids. >Click-type> ligation chemistries, including copper(i)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), thiol-ene coupling or thiourea-forming reactions, have been implemented to warrant full homogeneity of the adducts. The incorporation of different glycotopes to investigate multivalent interactions in heterogeneous environments has also been accomplished. Not surprisingly, multivalent CD conjugates have been, and continue to be, major actors in studies directed at deciphering the structural features ruling carbohydrate recognition events. Nanometric glycoassemblies endowed with the capability of adapting the inter-saccharide distances and orientations in the presence of a receptor partner or capable of mimicking the fluidity of biological membranes have been conceived by multitopic inclusion complex formation, rotaxanation or self-assembling. Applications in the fields of sensors, site-specific drug and gene delivery or protein stabilization attest for the maturity of the field.Ministerio de Economı´a y Competitividad CTQ2010-15848, SAF2010-1567

Factors Contributing to Mobile Phone Dependence Amongst Young People—Educational Implications

    Get PDF
The use of mobile devices facilitates access to knowledge and is at the base of the education of the future. Although the digital society has contributed a number of benefits, it has also been associated with worrying behaviors. The study design consisted of a quantitative approach that was descriptive, inferential and ex post facto in nature. Its purpose was to better understand the opinion of young people regarding smartphone use and describe dependence deriving from regular use. The sample was formed of 420 students from the Faculty of Education at the University of Granada. Results indicate that mobile phone use has displaced use of other technologies such as the television and is associated with communication and recreational activities. In addition, a profile was identified for young people at greater risk of developing a dependence on their mobile devices. This profile constituted female smartphone users with recreational motives and individuals who exceeded mobile phone use by more than six hours a day. To improve the educational use of smartphones, prevention and intervention plans must be designed which ensure correct management of this device, taking advantage of the benefits they offer, while avoiding problems derived from inappropriate use

This study analyzed the relationship between prosocial behavior and learning strategies in a sample of 2022 Spanish students (51.1% males) of Compulsory Secondary Education. The prosocial behavior was measured with the Prosocial Behaviour scale of the Teenage Inventory of Social Skills (TISS) and learning strategies were measured with the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory-High School (LASSI). Logistic regression analyses revealed that prosocial behavior is a positive and significant statistically predictor of high scores on the following learning strategies: attitude toward academic success, motivation, information processing, selecting main ideas, self-assessment, and evaluation strategies. In addition, prosocial behaviour was a negative and statistically significant predictor of high scores on anxiety. These results were found in males, females and students at all of Compulsory Secondary Education (CSE). However, prosocial behaviour was only a positive and statistically significant predictor of high scores in control of time (in samples of 2º and 4º CSE) and concentration (in samples of boy and students of 4º CSE).Este trabajo ha sido realizado a través del proyecto SEJ 2004-07311/EDUC perteneciente al Plan Nacional de Investigación Científica, Desarrollo e Innovación Tecnológica del M.E.C. concedido al primer autor

Metastable phenomena on calcite {1014} surfaces growing from Sr2+–Ca2+–CO3 2- aqueous solutions

In situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) experiments, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging and composition analysis, and X-ray diffraction have provided information about the growth, dissolution and transformation processes promoted by Sr2 + –Ca2 + –CO3 2 aqueous solutions in contact with calcite {101¯4} surfaces. Experiments have shown a wide variety of surface phenomena, such as the influence of the Sr-bearing newly-formed surface on the subsequent growth (template effect), the growth and subsequent dissolution of surfaces and the nucleation of secondary three-dimensional nuclei on calcite surfaces. These phenomena reveal the metastability of the crystallisation system and are a consequence of the interplay between thermodynamics (the relative stability of the two calcite and aragonite structure solid solutions that can be formed), supersaturation of the aqueous solution with respect to the two possible solid solutions, and the crystallographic control of the surfaces on cation incorporation

An analysis of the stability of rural tourism as a desired condition for sustainable tourism

    Get PDF
Tourism is a key sector in the sustainable development of rural environments. Its ability to create stable employment and an acceptable level of profits is conditioned by the stability of tourist activity throughout the year. This paper compares the level of seasonality of a group of rural destinations to that of coastal and urban destinations. By doing so, we intend to determine whether seasonality-related problems exist in the rural environment or not. The second aim is related to the first one: the proposal of a new, more comprehensive and objective methodology that can measure the intensity of seasonality based on a DP2 synthetic indicator. The DP2 indicator groups information about different representative variables of seasonality. The study takes the main tourist spots in Spain as a reference. The analysis concludes that the annual level of stability of rural tourism is not far from the stability of urban tourism, which is the most stable, as seasonality is much higher in coastal destinations. The methodology that provides the framework to build the DP2 indicator has allowed us to identify which variables explain the differences in the level of seasonality of each destination to a large extent. The results showed that the variables that do so are related to the internalization of the destination and changes in the availability of bed places
