On the instability of Reissner-Nordstrom black holes in de Sitter backgrounds

Recent numerical investigations have uncovered a surprising result: Reissner-Nordstrom-de Sitter black holes are unstable for spacetime dimensions larger than 6. Here we prove the existence of such instability analytically, and we compute the timescale in the near-extremal limit. We find very good agreement with the previous numerical results. Our results may me helpful in shedding some light on the nature of the instability.Comment: Published in Phys.Rev.

As exploratory research aiming to bridge theory and reality, this thesis seeks to understand Human Resources Managers’ real perception of purpose. Furthermore, it delves into how the concept affects their work and employee's motivation. For this Objective 10 Human Resources Managers were interviewed from different industries. From the semi-structured interviews, the qualitative data was coded and structured into the Grounded Theory. This to conclude that Human Resources Managers do not see a clear connection between the purpose of a company and the motivation of the employees

Many threatened species are affected; therefore, it is important not only to avoid, but also to recover birds victims from electrocution. By simultaneously touching two or more electrified wires, the bird suffers several burns along the path in which the current passes through its body. In some cases, these burns are not visible right after electrocution, being important the use of diagnostic means that are able to detect the electrical damages so that the bird receives the appropriate treatment in a timely manner. In this integrative review, through the selection of rigorous criteria, four articles were selected, where the means of diagnosis in the admission of birds to the respective recovery centers and if these were useful in the decisions made along the evolution of each bird were analyzed. It was concluded that the use of infrared thermography is important in detecting temperature changes caused by electrocution, on the follow-up of clinical cases to monitor the inflammatory process of tissues and prevent them from suffering fibrosis and calcification and in reducing handling during the examination and consequently the reduction of stress, which is extremely important to be kept at a minimum in wild animals. The ophthalmological examination is also important to prevent the evolution of cataracts, especially in cases where there are head injuries. The need to seek improvement on the prognosis of electrocution is important in order to preserve as much as possible the species most strongly affected by this problem, especially in threatened species.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
Background and Objectives: Physical activity has the potential to improve health outcomes in people with dementia, namely when living at home. However, the knowledge about home-based physical activity for this population is scarce. Thus, we aim to identify and synthesize the effects of home-based physical activity for people with dementia. Research Design and Methods: A systematic review was conducted. Quality of studies was assessed using the Delphi List. Effect sizes (ES) were calculated with MetaXL 2.0. A meta-analysis was conducted for the Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE), Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), Cornell Scale for Depression in Dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease Cooperative Study Group Activities of Daily Living Scale (ADCS-ADL), Functional Reach test, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, Short Physical Performance Battery, Dementia Quality of Life, NPI Caregivers subscale and Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI). Results: Sixteen randomized controlled trials were included. Most were of high quality and published after 2015. A large heterogeneity of interventions was found. Meta-analysis showed significant results in MMSE (ES = 0.71, 95% CI 0.43, 0.99), NPI (ES = −0.37, 95% CI −0.57, −0.17), ADCS-ADL (ES = 0.80, 95% CI 0.53, 1.07), Functional Reach test (ES = 2.24, 95% CI 1.80, 2.68), TUG test (ES = −2.40, 95% CI −2.84, −1.96), NPI Caregivers subscale (ES = −0.63, 95% CI −0.94, −0.32), and ZBI (ES = −0.45, 95% CI −0.77, −0.13). Few minor adverse events and high adherence to intervention were found. Discussion and Implications: Home-based physical activity seems safe and effective in delaying cognitive function decline and improving changes in behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, activities of daily living, health-related physical fitness, and carer’s burden in people with dementia living at home.publishe

Activated Carbon Produced from Tanning Industry Residues Used to Remove Carbamazepine from Wastewater

    Get PDF
The 8th International Conference on Energy and Environment Research - ICEER 2021According to UNESCO, emerging pollutants are posing a threat to ecosystems and human health. These compounds can be either synthetic or natural chemicals or microorganisms, that are not usually regulated, and can be found in hospital wastewater, even after conventional treatment processes. Carbamazepine is a mood stabilizing drug and an anticonvulsant. Due to its persistence, carbamazepine is one of the most frequently detected pharmaceuticals in wastewater. Though there are many methods to remove such pollutants, adsorption is one of the most effective treatments. To remove carbamazepine from solution, an activated carbon prepared from leather residues and a commercial activated carbon were used as adsorbents. The adsorption tests show that the leather residue derived activated carbons have higher specific surface area (>1500 m’/g) and higher adsorption capacity (q > 300 mgcnz/g) for carbamazepine when compared to commercial activated carbon (992 m’/g and q < 180 mgcaz/g, respectively).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
