Polish cities in transition – balance of changes in spatial development -opportunities and threats arising from integration with european union

The paper deals with urban development processes in Poland in the historical context. These processes are confronted with Western European urban development pattern. The author focuses its considerations on specific developments and distortion aspects like historical huge scale war devastations and large scale developments from the period of centrally planned economy. The influence of these events on dynamic and cycles of present-day urban processes and urban policy challenges is analyzed. In conclusions author suggests that Poland has own specific business and urban cycles, which makes Poland different than its neighboring countries. Past historical development has left is a strong footprint which should be taken very seriously in contemporary national urban policy.

Niniejszy zeszyt, zatytułowany "Gospodarka, zarządzanie, przestrzeń", ma szczególny charakter. Autorzy dedykują go prof. dr. hab. Jerzemu Regulskiemu, twórcy łódzkiej szkoły ekonomiki i zarządzania miastem, doktorowi honorowemu Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego. Acoustic method of airport fog precipitation

The influence of an acoustic field on the dispersed phase of a fluid has been studied in connection with the application of acoustic coagulation for the precipitation of gases. An acoustic field, depending on the intensity and frequency of the wave, as well as the physical condition of the medium, may cause coagulation, i.e. the joining of small particles into larger aggregates. This paper gives an example of the applications of dispersed phase acoustics, with particular emphasis on recent developments, e.g. the acoustic method of airport fog precipitation. This innovative technology is based on the fact that water can be collected from fog under the influence of acoustic waves. Numerical model of aviation gearbox test rig in a closed loop configuration

The development of computer techniques and computational systems based on the finite element method allows one to conduct a free vibration analysis of large systems like an aviation gearbox test rig. The object of this paper is to present a free vibration analysis of a gear fatigue test rig working in a closed loop configuration. A numerical model of the test rig based on the finite element method is presented in this paper. The base model contains all the essential structures of the real system. After the numerical results of the natural frequencies of the rig were obtained, they were then verified by the experimental results on a real object. Numerical analysis was performed using the ANSYS code. Santrauka Baigtiniu elementu metodu paremtas kompiuterines technikos ir kompiuteriniu sistemu kūrimas leidžia atlikti laisvuju svyravimu analize tokios dideles sistemos, kaip aviacines pavaru dežes, testavimo irenginys. Šio darbo tikslas buvo atlikti pavaru dežes nuovargio bandymu irenginio, veikiančio uždaro kontūro konfigūracijoje, laisvuju svyravimu analize. Taip pat pateikiamas testavimo irenginio skaitinis modelis, kurio veikimas yra pagristas baigtiniu elementu metodu. Pagrindinis modelis turi visas tikrosios sistemos svarbiausias struktūras. Gavus irenginio savuju dažniu kiekybinius rezultatus, buvo patikrinti realaus objekto eksperimentiniai rezultatai. Naudojantis ANSYS sistema buvo atlikta skaitine analize. Institutional Problems of Metropolitan Areas Management

Metropolitan areas are the most important elements of competing national economies. The nature of metropolitan areas, taking into account all dimensions of their functioning, is by far more complex than the scale of problems which may be encountered at an average local jurisdiction. Managing metropolitan areas in an efficient, effective and economically sound way is becoming an important tool for achieving stable competitive advantages by nations competing on a global level. The first part of the article deals with problems of failure in public institutions and other barriers of efficient metropolitan management. In next part foreign experiences are presented.
