12 pages, 2 figures.-- PACS nrs.: 68.35.B-, 68.08.-p.-- ArXiv pre-print available at: http://arxiv.org/abs/0705.1488We present a general formalism which allows us to derive the evolution equations describing one-dimensional (1D) and isotropic 2D interface-like systems, that is based on symmetries, conservation laws, multiple scale arguments, and exploits the relevance of coarsening dynamics. Our approach becomes especially significant in the presence of surface morphological instabilities and allows us to classify the most relevant nonlinear terms in the continuum description of these systems. The formalism applies to systems ranging from eroded nanostructures to macroscopic pattern formation. In particular, we show the validity of the theory for novel experiments on ion plasma erosion. Travel agencies face an environment where to establish and nourish a permanent relationship can become the key that marks the key to survival. Customer relationship management effects in the relationship quality and loyalty are analyzed. Using structural equations, results support that travel agencies can expect customer loyalty when they perceive a high relationship quality, which can be improved by customer relationship management actions implemented by travel agencie

Souvenir shopping satisfaction: antecedents and consequences

Souvenirs function as mementos and are palpable evidence of a journey. The souvenir is certainly a key element of the destination experience of tourists. In this study, we analyze shopping value as an antecedent of tourist souvenir-shopping satisfaction, the consequences of which are positive word of mouth and overall tourist satisfaction. Using Partial Least Squares, a variance-based structural equation modeling technique for data analysis, we arrive at results that show a positive and significant relationship between tourist souvenir shopping satisfaction and both positive word of mouth and overall tourist satisfaction. Moreover, the results also suggest that it is shopping value above all through its hedonic dimension that heightens tourist shopping satisfaction. The study provides useful insights into business strategy for souvenir retailers and its results may serve to guide the tourism planning and promotion activities of destination marketing organizations

Application of dynamic merit function to nonimaging systems optimization

    Get PDF
Automatic optimization algorithms have been recently introduced as nonimaging optics design techniques. Unlike optimization of imaging systems, nonsequential ray tracing simulations and complex noncentered systems design must be considered, adding complexity to the problem. The merit function is a key element in the automatic optimization algorithm; nevertheless, the selection of each objective’s weight, {wi}{wi}, inside the merit function needs a prior trial and error process for each optimization. The problem then is to determine appropriate weights’ values for each objective. We propose a new dynamic merit function with variable weight factors {wi(n)}{wi(n)}. The proposed algorithm automatically adapts weight factors during the evolution of the optimization process. This dynamic merit function avoids the previous trial and error procedure by selecting the right merit function and provides better results than conventional merit functions

To perform a morphologic classification based on the results of bone augmentation after a distraction osteogenesis. Thirty-four (34) patients (24 women and 10 men; mean age, 47.1 years (SD=9.5); age range, 23 to 62 years) underwent a total of 42 alveolar ridge distractions before the placement of a total of 89 dental implants. Ridge bone morphology was evaluated as the main ordinal variable. Chi-squared, Kruskal-Wallis and ANOVA one-way test were used. Category I (30.95%): consisted of wide alveolar rim and no bone defects Category II (28.57%): wide alveolar rim, lateral bone surface concavity. Category III (23.81%): narrow alveolar rim, lateral bone surface concavity. Category IV (2.38 %): distraction transport segment forming a bridge, without bone formed beneath and requiring guided bone regeneration. Category V (9.52%): return of the transport segment to its initial position due to the reverse rotation of the distractor screw. Category VI (4.76 %): distraction transport segment completely lost. Subcategory D (28.57%), consisted of lingual deviation of the distraction axis, occurring in any of the categories I to IV. More men (76.9 %) presented with category I (p<0.001). The use of the chisel resulted mainly in categories I and II (69.4 %) (p<0.001). GBR was only required in 23.1 % of the cases in Category I (p=0.011). The bone height achieved decreases as the category increases, due to the accompanying osteogenic limitations (p<0.001). The implants placed in category I were longer 11.5 ± 0.9 mm (CI95% 10.9-11.9 mm) compared to those placed in category III with a length of 10.4 ± 1.5 mm (CI95% 9.5-11.4 mm) (p=0.035). The alveolar ridge after distraction osteogenesis could be divided into six morphologic categories which provide a useful basis for decision-making regarding implant placement

The coffee berry borer (Hypothenemus hampei) has transformed into the main pest of this cultivation in the country from half-filled of the years ninety and its management has been used the endosulfan insecticide, the elimination of infested fruits and the use of the entomopathogen fungi Beauveria bassiana, among other practical. Due to the necessity of trafficking toward the sustainable caficulture, it was carried out a participatory innovation and qualification project and to achieve the adoption of agroecological practices in the coffee berry borer management, which was executed during the years 2005-2008 in the 27 coffee municipalities of the country, with the participation of technicians and caficultors. The adoption of 36 agroecological practices was achieved for the coffee berry borer management, of which four depend on biological products that are acquired outside of the production system and the rest they are carried out totally by the caficultor; of these, 35% has been adopted in more than 64,0 Thousands of hectares (more than 80% of the coffee area of the country).

The importance of Discourse Analysis can be seen from different perspectives. Each one contemplates distinct benefits related to applied linguistics, both for the teaching-learning of languages and for translation and interpreting, but also as a human. For this reason, in the context of the Bachelor's Degree in Languages at the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco, in which training for teaching and translation and interpretation is provided, we intend to emphasize the importance of Discourse Analysis for a Language Graduate, especially when practicing Audiovisual Translation. This work aims to identify different aspects of a real and spontaneous conversation to analyze several of the characteristics of oral discourse that are implicit in a dialogue and that can cause complications when transmitting the oral message in written form in the subtitling of audiovisual products.

Fear of recurrence is one of the main affectations of cancer survivors. In Latin-American exist a lack of evidence on the subject and of valid instruments to measure it. The objective of this study was to determine the psychometric properties of the Concerns About Recurrence Scale in Mexican breast cancer survivors. An instrumental study was carried out with 200 women breast cancer survivors with a mean age of 53 years old and a mean survival of 52.5 months. A confirmatory factor analysis of the original version of the scale identified four factors that explained 77 % of the variance and satisfactory goodness of fit indicators: CFI = .967, TLI = .957, SRMR = .035, RMSEA = .071 as well as high internal consistency α = .945. Significant associations were also identified between general fear subscale, anxiety subscale of the HADS and total HADS score (r = .638 and r = .607; p = .01). The CARS presented adequate validity, reliability and factorial structure. It is recommended for usage in clinical care and research with Mexican breast cancer survivors.
