A Presheaf Interpretation of the Generalized Freyd Conjecture

We give a generalized version of the Freyd conjecture and a way to think about a possible proof. The essential point is to describe an elementary formal reduction of the question that holds in any triangulated category. There are no new results, but at least one known example drops out quite trivially.Comment: 8 pages; formerly titled "Thinking about the Freyd conjecture

A geometric interpretation of the homotopy groups of the cobordism category

The classifying space of the embedded cobordism category has been identified in by Galatius, Tillmann, Madsen, and Weiss as the infinite loop space of a certain Thom spectrum. This identifies the set of path components with the classical cobordism group. In this paper, we give a geometric interpretation of the higher homotopy groups as certain cobordism groups where all manifolds are now equipped with a set of orthonormal sections in the tangent bundle. We also give a description of the fundamental group as a free group with a set of geometrically intuitive relations.Comment: 23 page

How to deal with Belarus? New approaches in EU-Belarus relations

"The Belarusian regime is under pressure economically and socially. The Minsk metro bombing on April 2011, which caused 14 deaths, showed the new instability of the country. High inflation and small foreign currency reserves have led to a deeper dependency on loans from Russia. Since the rigged elections and the violent crackdowns on demonstration in December 2010, EU-Belarus relations are at a low point. To develop a new EU strategy toward Belarus, the EU should take a closer look at the structural developments in the country and approach two groups for a new cooperation: the young pro-European society and the disappointed elite." Implementation of Stress Management and Resiliency Training to Address Nursing Burnout in a Neuroscience Critical Care Unit

In the United States, over one-third of nurses experience symptoms of burnout (Reith, 2018). If left unchecked, poor stress management and resiliency skills can contribute to nursing burnout, leading to costly employee turnover. Stress management and resiliency training (SMART) provides the tools necessary to develop resiliency, improve stress management and decrease burnout (Resilient Option, 2020). Nursing staff under the age of 36, who work in a Neurosciences Critical Care Unit (NCCU) demonstrate lower resiliency scores and a higher risk of burnout. This project aimed to evaluate: (a) the effects of a SMART program on the wellbeing of nursing staff in the NCCU; and (b) the usefulness of implementing a SMART program. Participants were a convenience sample of self-selected nurses employed in the NCCU at a large teaching hospital. A web-based, self-paced SMART program was implemented. To assess the impact of the SMART intervention, a pre- and two post-intervention surveys were completed to statistically determine if there was a change in survey scores for burnout, stress, and resiliency. Valid and reliable tools to assess burnout, stress, and resiliency existed in the literature evidence and were adopted for this project. To assess for potential influence on employee retention, employee turnover was reviewed for the 6 months leading up to the intervention and 6 months post-intervention. Participant satisfaction with the SMART self-paced online modules was also assessed. Results were analyzed using frequency and descriptive statistics to evaluate effectiveness and usefulness of the intervention. A statistically significant decrease in burnout was found at both the 4-week and 8-week post-intervention period (

La condición de las mujeres : el caso de Italia después de la guerra

    Get PDF
