Vlastnosti základního stavu sloučenin s f elektrony jsou charakterizovány silnými interakcemi vedoucími k mnoha exotickým jevům. V této práci jsme se zabývali sloučeninami krystalizujícími v tetragonální soustavě typu HonCoGa3n+2. Přpravili jsme několik nových materiálů pomocí metody růstu z indiového roztoku. Mezi nejzajímavější patří Ce3TIn11 (T = Pd, Pt). Jejich krystalová struktura obsahuje dvě neekvivalentní polohy céru. U sloučenin pozorujeme koexistenci antiferomagnetického uspořádání a těžkofermionové supravodivosti za normálního tlaku. Podobně je tomu u dalších zkoumaných sloučenin RE2CoIn8 (RE...The ground-state properties of f-electron compounds are characterized by strong interactions which lead to a plethora of exotic states. In this thesis we focused on compounds crystallizing in the tetragonal HonCoGa3n+2-type structure. Several new compounds have been synthesized from In-flux; particularly enigmatic are Ce3TIn11 (T = Pd, Pt). These compounds possess two inequivalent Ce-sites and reveal coexistence of antiferromagnetic order and heavy fermion superconductivity at ambient pressure. This coexistence can be explained in the framework of two-Kondo ion lattice model, assuming one Ce-site being completely Kondo screened with the 4f-electron behaving itinerant and participating in superconductivity while the second Ce-site retains its local character giving rise to magnetic order via the RKKY interaction. The influence of crystal electric field on the magnetic ground state has been investigated on the Kondo compound Ce2RhIn8 by means of neutron experiments. U2RhIn8 and URhIn5 behave like transition-metal antiferromagnets, contrary to Ce(4f)-counterparts. The 5f-states are entirely hybridized and Kondo interactions play no role. Neither does it in the investigated RE2CoIn8 (RE = Pr, Nd, Dy) compounds which exhibit strong localized 4f-electron behavior. Here, the influence of strong...Katedra fyziky kondenzovaných látekDepartment of Condensed Matter PhysicsMatematicko-fyzikální fakultaFaculty of Mathematics and Physic

Magnetic structures in the rich magnetic phase diagram of Ho2_2RhIn8_8

The magnetic phase diagram of the tetragonal Ho2_2RhIn8_8 compound has similar features to many related systems, revealing a zero magnetic field AF1 and a field-induced AF2 phases. Details of the magnetic order in the AF2 phase were not reported yet for any of the related compounds. In addition, only the Ho2_2RhIn8_8 phase diagram contains a small region of the incommensurate zero-field AF3 phase. We have performed a number of neutron diffraction experiments on single crystals of Ho2_2RhIn8_8 using several diffractometers including experiments in both horizontal and vertical magnetic fields up to 4 T. We present details of the magnetic structures in all magnetic phases of the rich phase diagram of Ho2_2RhIn8_8. The Ho magnetic moments point along the tetragonal cc axis in every phase. The ground-state AF1 phase is characterized by propagation vector k\textbf{k} = (1/2, 0, 0). The more complex ferrimagnetic AF2 phase is described by four propagation vectors k0\textbf{k}_{0} = (0, 0, 0), k1\textbf{k}_{1} = (1/2, 0, 0), k2\textbf{k}_{2} = (0, 1/2, 1/2), k3\textbf{k}_{3} = (1/2, 1/2, 1/2). The magnetic structure in the AF3 phase is incommensurate with kAF3\textbf{k}_{AF3} = (0.5, δ\delta, 0). Our results are consistent with theoretical calculations based on crystal field theory.Comment: submitted to PR

R2RhIn8 compounds (space group P4/mmm, R is a rare-earth element) belong to a large group of structurally related tetragonal materials which involves several heavy-fermion superconductors based on Ce. We have succeeded to grow single crystals of compounds with Nd, Dy and Er and following our previous bulk measurements, we performed neutron-diffraction studies to determine their magnetic structures. The Laue diffraction experiment showed that the antiferromagnetic order below the N\'eel temperature is in all three compounds characterized by the propagation vector k = (1/2, 1/2, 1/2). The amplitude and direction of the magnetic moments, as well as the invariance symmetry of the magnetic structure, were determined by subsequent experiments using two- and four-circle diffractometers. The critical exponents were determined from the temperature dependence of the intensities below TN.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, submitted to PR

Cognitive Profiles and Functional Connectivity in First-Episode Schizophrenia Spectrum Disorders – Linking Behavioral and Neuronal Data

The character of cognitive deficit in schizophrenia is not clear due to the heterogeneity in research results. In heterogeneous conditions, the cluster solution allows the classification of individuals based on profiles. Our aim was to examine the cognitive profiles of first-episode schizophrenia spectrum disorder (FES) subjects based on cluster analysis, and to correlate these profiles with clinical variables and resting state brain connectivity, as measured with magnetic resonance imaging. A total of 67 FES subjects were assessed with a neuropsychological test battery and on clinical variables. The results of the cognitive domains were cluster analyzed. In addition, functional connectivity was calculated using ROI-to-ROI analysis with four groups: Three groups were defined based on the cluster analysis of cognitive performance and a control group with a normal cognitive performance. The connectivity was compared between the patient clusters and controls. We found different cognitive profiles based on three clusters: Cluster 1: decline in the attention, working memory/flexibility, and verbal memory domains. Cluster 2: decline in the verbal memory domain and above average performance in the attention domain. Cluster 3: generalized and severe deficit in all of the cognitive domains. FES diagnoses were distributed among all of the clusters. Cluster comparisons in neural connectivity also showed differences between the groups. Cluster 1 showed both hyperconnectivity between the cerebellum and precentral gyrus, the salience network (SN) (insula cortex), and fronto-parietal network (FPN) as well as between the PreCG and SN (insula cortex) and hypoconnectivity between the default mode network (DMN) and seeds of SN [insula and supramarginal gyrus (SMG)]; Cluster 2 showed hyperconnectivity between the DMN and cerebellum, SN (insula) and precentral gyrus, and FPN and IFG; Cluster 3 showed hypoconnectivity between the DMN and SN (insula) and SN (SMG) and pallidum. The cluster solution confirms the prevalence of a cognitive decline with different patterns of cognitive performance, and different levels of severity in FES. Moreover, separate behavioral cognitive subsets can be linked to patterns of brain functional connectivity
