    A new countermeasure against side-channel attacks based on hardware-software co-design

    This paper aims at presenting a new countermeasure against Side-Channel Analysis (SCA) attacks, whose implementation is based on a hardware-software co-design. The hardware architecture consists of a microprocessor, which executes the algorithm using a false key, and a coprocessor that performs several operations that are necessary to retrieve the original text that was encrypted with the real key. The coprocessor hardly affects the power consumption of the device, so that any classical attack based on such power consumption would reveal a false key. Additionally, as the operations carried out by the coprocessor are performed in parallel with the microprocessor, the execution time devoted for encrypting a specific text is not affected by the proposed countermeasure. In order to verify the correctness of our proposal, the system was implemented on a Virtex 5 FPGA. Different SCA attacks were performed on several functions of AES algorithm.     Hardware architecture implemented on FPGA for protecting cryptographic keys against side-channel attacks

    This paper presents a new hardware architecture designed for protecting the key of cryptographic algorithms against attacks by side-channel analysis (SCA). Unlike previous approaches already published, the fortress of the proposed architecture is based on revealing a false key. Such a false key is obtained when the leakage information, related to either the power consumption or the electromagnetic radiation (EM) emitted by the hardware device, is analysed by means of a classical statistical method. In fact, the trace of power consumption (or the EM) does not reveal any significant sign of protection in its behaviour or shape. Experimental results were obtained by using a Virtex 5 FPGA, on which a 128-bit version of the standard AES encryption algorithm was implemented. The architecture could easily be extrapolated to an ASIC device based on standard cell libraries. The system is capable of concealing the real key when various attacks are performed on the AES algorithm, using two statistical methods which are based on correlation, the Welch’s t-test and the difference of means.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

    One pion production in neutrino-nucleon scattering and the different parametrizations of the weak NΔN\rightarrow\Delta vertex

    The NΔN \to \Delta weak vertex provides an important contribution to the one pion production in neutrino-nucleon and neutrino-nucleus scattering for πN\pi N invariant masses below 1.4 GeV. Beyond its interest as a tool in neutrino detection and their background analyses, one pion production in neutrino-nucleon scattering is useful to test predictions based on the quark model and other internal symmetries of strong interactions. Here we try to establish a connection between two commonly used parametrizations of the weak NΔN \to \Delta vertex and form factors (FF) and we study their effects on the determination of the axial coupling C5A(0)C_5^A(0), the common normalization of the axial FF, which is predicted to hold 1.2 by using the PCAC hypothesis. Predictions for the νμpμpπ+\nu_{\mu} p \to \mu^- p\pi^+ total cross sections within the two approaches, which include the resonant Δ++\Delta^{++} and other background contributions in a coherent way, are compared to experimental data.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters

    CC and NC pion production

    The disappearance searching experiments nu_mu ---> nu_x use charged current quasielastic (CCQE) reaction to detect an arriving neutrino and reconstruct its energy, while the CC1 pi^+ production can mimic the CCQE signal process. In nu_mu --->nu_e appearance experiments, the NC1 pi^0 production process can lead to a fake e^- event by the impossibility for the detector of distinguish an arriving electron or a photon. Here we present a consistent model, from the point of view of the construction of the elemental amplitude, for the mentioned pion production background processes including bounding, smearing and final state interaction (FSI) effects in a single fashion.     Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso apresentado ao Instituto Latino-Americano de Arte, Cultura e História da Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana, como requisito parcial à obtenção do título de Licenciado em Letras – espanhol e português como línguas estrangeiras. Orientador: Prof. Dr. Gastón CosentinoHá um certo espectro do discurso crítico, seja o acadêmico ou o militante, que se empenha constantemente em determinar quais são as formas de vida e de representação que devem constituir a imagem do popular. Por meio de tecnicismos e valorizações estéticas, é construída uma moralidade que pretende ordenar ao povo formas que estes devem pensar sobre a si mesmos. O presente ensaio pretende ser uma resposta a este gesto autoritário. Propomos, por meio da obra de Washington Cucurto, pensar como convive na sociedade contemporânea uma heterogeneidade de representações que, longe de estarem ordenadas e serem estáveis, encontram-se em constante movimento e contradição. Para conotar esta dinâmica, articulamos nosso trabalho à palavra errar que sempre denota ou o trânsito, ou a falha ou o equívoco. Nosso objetivo é projetar, frente à transparência das representações que planificam esse discurso crítico, a opacidade social que a literatura consegue pôr em questão. Acreditamos que este trabalho seja relevante para questionar certos hábitos do sentido comum crítico e para discutir questões canônicas da literatura. Supomos, portanto, que pode ser um pequeno aporte contra o pensamento autoritárioHay un cierto espectro del discurso crítico, ya sea docto o militante, que se empeña constantemente en determinar cuáles son las formas de vida y de representación que deben constituir la imagen de lo popular. A través de tecnicismos y valoraciones estéticas, construyen una moralidad que pretende ordenar al pueblo y las formas en que éste debe pensarse a sí mismo. El presente ensayo pretende ser una respuesta a este gesto autoritario. Nos proponemos, a través de la obra de Washington Cucurto, pensar cómo convive en la sociedad contemporánea una heterogeneidad de representaciones que, lejos de estar ordenadas y ser estables, se encuentran en constante movimiento y contradicción. Para connotar esta dinámica, articulamos nuestro trabajo a través de la palabra “errar”, que denota siempre o el tránsito, o la falla, o la equivocación. Nuestro objetivo es plantear, frente a la transparencia de las representaciones que plantea ese discurso crítico, la opacidad social que la literatura consigue poner en cuestión. Creemos que este trabajo resulta relevante para cuestionar ciertos hábitos del sentido común crítico y para discutir algunas nociones bastante canónicas de la literatura.     Communication: Inferring the equation of state of a metastable hard-sphere fluid from the equation of state of a hard-sphere mixture at high densities

    A possible approximate route to obtain the equation of state of the monodisperse hard-sphere system in the metastable fluid region from the knowledge of the equation of state of a hard-sphere mixture at high densities is discussed. The proposal is illustrated by using recent Monte Carlo simulation data for the pressure of a binary mixture.
