σ\sigma meson exchange effect on nonmesonic hypernuclear weak decay observables

We analyze the influence of σ\sigma meson exchange on the main nonmesonic hypernuclear weak decay observables: the total rate, ΓNM\Gamma_{NM}, the neutron-to-proton branching ratio, Γn/p\Gamma_{n/p}, and the proton asymmetry parameter, aΛa_\Lambda. The σ\sigma meson exchange is added to the standard strangeness-changing weak ΛN→NN\Lambda N\to NN transition potential, which includes the exchange of the complete pseudoscalar and vector mesons octet (π\pi, η\eta, KK, ρ\rho, ω\omega, K∗K^*). Using a shell model formalism, the σ\sigma meson weak coupling constants are adjusted to reproduce the recent ΓNM\Gamma_{NM} and Γn/p\Gamma_{n/p} experimental data for Λ5He^5_{\Lambda}He. Numerical results for the remaining observables of Λ5He^5_{\Lambda}He and all the observables of Λ12C^{12}_{\Lambda}C decays are presented. They clearly show that the addition of the σ\sigma meson, in spite of improving some observables values, is not enough to reproduce simultaneously all the measurements, and the puzzle posed by the experimental data remains unexplained.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. One pion production in neutrino-nucleon scattering and the different parametrizations of the weak N→ΔN\rightarrow\Delta vertex

    Get PDF
The N→ΔN \to \Delta weak vertex provides an important contribution to the one pion production in neutrino-nucleon and neutrino-nucleus scattering for πN\pi N invariant masses below 1.4 GeV. Beyond its interest as a tool in neutrino detection and their background analyses, one pion production in neutrino-nucleon scattering is useful to test predictions based on the quark model and other internal symmetries of strong interactions. Here we try to establish a connection between two commonly used parametrizations of the weak N→ΔN \to \Delta vertex and form factors (FF) and we study their effects on the determination of the axial coupling C5A(0)C_5^A(0), the common normalization of the axial FF, which is predicted to hold 1.2 by using the PCAC hypothesis. Predictions for the ΜΌp→Ό−pπ+\nu_{\mu} p \to \mu^- p\pi^+ total cross sections within the two approaches, which include the resonant Δ++\Delta^{++} and other background contributions in a coherent way, are compared to experimental data.Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters

Dynamic heterogeneity in the glass-like monoclinic phases of some halogen methane compounds

    Get PDF
In this work we study the heterogeneity of the dynamics on the low-temperature monoclinic phases of the simple molecular glassy systems CBrnCl4−nCBrnCl4−n, n = 0, 1, 2. In these systems the disorder comes exclusively from reorientational jumps mainly around the C3 molecular axes. The different time scales are determined by means of the analysis of the spin-lattice relaxation time obtained through Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) technique. Results are compared with those obtained from dielectric spectroscopy, from which two α- and ÎČ-relaxation times appear. NQR results enable us to ascribe with no doubt that the existence of two relaxations is due to dynamical heterogeneities which are the consequence of the different molecular surroundings of the molecules in the asymmetric unit cell of systems here studied.Fil: Zuriaga, Mariano Jose.

Matrix elements of four-quark operators and \Delta L=2 hyperon decays

The study of neutrinoless double beta decays of nuclei and hyperons require the calculation of hadronic matrix elements of local four-quark operators that change the total charge by two units \Delta Q=2 . Using a low energy effective Lagrangian that induces these transitions, we compute these hadronic matrix elements in the framework of the MIT bag model. As an illustrative example we evaluate the amplitude and transition rate of \Sigma- -> p e- e-, a decay process that violates lepton number by two units (\Delta L=2). The relevant matrix element is evaluated without assuming the usual factorization approximation of the four-quark operators and the results obtained in both approaches are compared.Comment: 13 pages, 2 .eps figure

Investor Information, Long-Run Risk, and the Term Structure of Equity

    Get PDF
We study the role of information in asset pricing models with long-run cash flow risk. When investors can distinguish short- from long-run consumption risks (full information), the model generates a sizable equity risk premium only if the equity term structure slopes up, contrary to the data. In general, the short- and long-run components are unidentified. We propose a sparsity-based bounded rationality model of long-run risk that is both parsimonious and fully identified from historical data. In contrast to full information, the model generates a sizable market risk premium simultaneously with a downward sloping equity term structure, as in the data.

    Displacement Data Assimilation

We show that modifying a Bayesian data assimilation scheme by incorporating kinematically-consistent displacement corrections produces a scheme that is demonstrably better at estimating partially observed state vectors in a setting where feature information important. While the displacement transformation is not tied to any particular assimilation scheme, here we implement it within an ensemble Kalman Filter and demonstrate its effectiveness in tracking stochastically perturbed vortices.Comment: 26 Pages, 9 figures, 5 table
