    Automatic Intent-based Classification of Citizen–toGovernment Tweets

    Social networking technologies offer opportunities for governments to engage with citizens. However, the inability to filter relevant citizens' messages out of the vast amount of available social media content lessens their impact. In this paper, we propose a set of categories encapsulating the different citizens' intents when directing messages to public institutions, e.g., complaining, making requests, and proposing solutions to existing problems. We present a novel artificial intelligence approach, built upon natural language processing and machine learning algorithms, that enables the categorisation of citizens' messages into such intents automatically, and at scale. Through an empirical evaluation on a Twitter dataset, we show the effectiveness of our approach in terms of categorisation performance.     Mad2 regula la activación de la nucleación del huso mitótico en la levadura de fisión S. pombe

    Motivación: Cut12 es un regulador mitótico que promueve la inserción en la envoltura nuclear y activación del SPB (Spindle Pole Body), estructura nucleadora de microtúbulos extremadamente conservada en levaduras y análoga funcional de los centrosomas de células animales. Una versión mutante de este gen, cut12.1, es termosensible y a temperatura restrictiva genera un defecto de inserción y activación en el SPB y un fenotipo de huso monopolar, que inicia la nucleación del huso de forma aleatoria en el tiempo. Como antecedente de este proyecto, se vio que este defecto genera una señal que pasa por Mad2, ya que en ausencia de éste, la activación de la nucleación se produce como en silvestre. Mad2 es un elemento fundamental del Checkpoint mitótico o SAC, que sostiene la salida de mitosis hasta asegurar que los pares de cromátidas hermanas se segregarán correctamente.En este proyecto se estudia, usando como modelo eucariota la levadura de fisión Schizosaccharomyces pombe, un nuevo papel de Mad2 en la regulación de la nucleación del huso mitótico y sus interacciones genéticas con cut12 y el núcleo esencial de la maquinaria de iniciación de la nucleación de microtúbulos: El complejo b-Tubulina (g-TuRC).Métodos: Se han realizado análisis genéticos y estudios de la dinámica nuclear de los mutantes Cut12.1Alp4-GFP y Cut12.1Mad2-GFP y de la dinámica de microtúbulos de los dobles mutantes Cut12.1Alp4.1891-GFP.atb2 y Cut12.1Alp6.791-GFP.atb2 en la división celular por técnicas de microscopía, a temperatura permisiva y restrictiva.Resultados: En S.pombe la correcta inserción y activación de los de los SPBs hace competente al complejo g-TuRC para la nucleación del huso. Hemos encontrado interacciones sintéticas letales del mutante cut12.1 con alelos condicionales de Alp4 y Alp6. Esto, establece una conexión entre el defecto de inserción y activación con el inicio de la nucleación de microtúbulos por el complejo g-TuRC. Así mismo, nuestros datos preliminares indican que el tiempo de residencia de Mad2 en los SPBs se reduce dramáticamente cuando se elimina la función de cut12. Por lo que el defecto de inserción y/o topología del SPB puede afectar a la activación del complejo g-TuRC para la nucleación del husoConclusiones: Nuestros datos sugieren una novedosa función de mad2 para la coordinación de la integración de los SPB y la nucleación del huso mitótico

    The 2011 October Draconids outburst-I. Orbital elements, meteoroid fluxes and 21P/Giacobini-Zinner delivered mass to Earth

    On 2011 October 8, the Earth crossed the dust trails left by comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner during its 19th and 20th century perihelion approaches with the comet being close to perihelion. The geometric circumstances of that encounter were thus favourable to produce a meteor storm, but the trails were much older than in the 1933 and 1946 historical encounters. As a consequence the 2011 October Draconid display exhibited several activity peaks with Zenithal Hourly Rates of about 400 meteors h-1. In fact, if the display had not been forecasted, it could have passed almost unnoticed as was strongly attenuated for visual observers due to the Moon. This suggests that most meteor storms of a similar nature could have passed historically unnoticed under unfavourable weather and Moon observing conditions. The possibility of obtaining information on the physical properties of cometary meteoroids penetrating the atmosphere under low geocentric velocity encounter circumstances motivated us to set up a special observing campaign. Added to the Spanish Fireball Network wide-field all-sky and CCD video monitoring, other high-sensitivity 1/2 arcsec black and white CCD videocameras were attached to the modified medium-field lenses for obtaining high-resolution orbital information. The trajectory, radiant and orbital data of October 16 Draconid meteors observed at multiple stations are presented. The results show that the meteors appeared from a geocentric radiant located at α = 263.0 ± 0°.4 and δ =+55.3 ± 0°.3 that is in close agreement with the radiant predicted for the 1873-1894 and the 1900 dust trails. The estimated mass of material from 21P/Giacobini-Zinner delivered to Earth during the 6 h outburst was around950 ±150 kg

    Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Transformed Follicular Lymphoma (tFL): Results of a Retrospective Multicenter Study from GELTAMO/GETH-TC Spanish Groups

    Simple Summary Follicular lymphoma (FL) is the most prevalent subtype of indolent lymphoma, accounting for 70% of all cases. The estimated risk of histological transformation (tFL), such as diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), varies from 2-3% per year to 7-8% at 10 years in different series. Treatment after transformation is not clearly established. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) could be an option for these patients, but it has not been widely explored. We analyze the efficacy and toxicity of alloSCT in 43 patients from 14 Spanish centers. We observed long-term survival in around one third of the patients, especially those who developed chronic graft versus host disease, indicating that alloSCT continues to be a potentially curative option for patients with tFL, mainly due to the graft versus lymphoma effect. Background: Transformation of follicular lymphoma into an aggressive lymphoma (tFL) worsens the prognosis and the standard treatment is not completely defined. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) could be a potentially curative option for these patients, but it has not been widely explored. Methods: We designed a retrospective multicenter study to analyze the efficacy and toxicity of alloSCT in tFL patients and potential prognostic factors of survival. Results: A total of 43 patients diagnosed with tFL who underwent alloSCT in 14 Spanish centers between January 2000 and January 2019 were included. Median age was 44 (31-67) years. After a median follow-up of 58 months, estimated 5-year overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were both 35%. Estimated 100-day and 1-year non-relapse mortality (NRM) were 20% and 34%, respectively. The type of conditioning regimen (3-year OS of 52% vs. 20%, respectively, for reduced-intensity vs. myeloablative conditioning) and development of chronic graft versus host disease (cGVHD) (3-year OS of 75% vs. 40%) were the only factors significantly associated with OS. The only variable with an independent association with OS was cGVHD (HR, 3.4; 95% CI, 1.2-9.6). Conclusions: Our results indicate that alloSCT continues to be a potentially curative option for patients with tFL

    Progress and achievements on the early detection of Xylella fastidiosa infection and symptom development with hyperspectral and thermal remote sensing imagery

    Trabajo presentado en la 3rd European Conference on Xylella fastidiosa (Building knowledge, protecting plant health), celebrada online el 29 y 30 de abril de 2021.Remote sensing efforts made as part of European initiatives via POnTE, XF-ACTORS and the JRC, as well as through regional programs, have focused, among others, on the development of algorithms for the early detection of Xylella fastidiosa (Xf)-induced symptoms. Airborne campaigns carried out between 2016 and 2019 collected high-resolution hyperspectral and thermal images from infected areas in the Apulia region (Italy), in the province of Alicante and on the island of Mallorca (Spain). The remote sensing imagery collections were performed alongside field surveys and laboratory analyses to assess the presence of Xf, and the severity and incidence of disease in olive and almond trees. Radiative transfer models and machine learning algorithms were used to quantify spectral plant traits for each individual infected tree, assessing their importance as pre visual indicators of Xf-induced stress. These studies conducted across species have demonstrated that specific spectral plant traits successfully revealed Xf induced symptoms at early stages, i.e., before visual symptoms appear. The results show that spectral plant traits contribute differently to symptom detection across host species (olive vs. almond), and that abiotic-induced stress affects the performance of the algorithms used for detecting infected trees. Together, the different European initiatives studying the use of remote sensing to support the monitoring of landscapes for Xylella fastidiosa detection lead us to conclude that the early detection of Xf-induced symptoms is feasible when high-resolution hyperspectral imagery and physically-based plant trait retrievals are used, obtaining accuracies exceeding 92% (kappa>0.8). These results are essential to enable the implementation of effective control and management of plant diseases using airborne- droneand satellite-based remote sensing technologies. Moreover, these large-scale hyperspectral and thermal imaging methods greatly contribute to the future operational monitoring of infected areas at large scales, well beyond what is possible from field surveys and laboratory analyses alone

    Multicenter prospective clinical study to evaluate children short-term neurodevelopmental outcome in congenital heart disease (children NEURO-HEART): study protocol.

    BACKGROUND: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most prevalent congenital malformation affecting 1 in 100 newborns. While advances in early diagnosis and postnatal management have increased survival in CHD children, worrying long-term outcomes, particularly neurodevelopmental disability, have emerged as a key prognostic factor in the counseling of these pregnancies. METHODS: Eligible participants are women presenting at 20 to < 37 weeks of gestation carrying a fetus with CHD. Maternal/neonatal recordings are performed at regular intervals, from the fetal period to 24 months of age, and include: placental and fetal hemodynamics, fetal brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional echocardiography, cerebral oxymetry, electroencephalography and serum neurological and cardiac biomarkers. Neurodevelopmental assessment is planned at 12 months of age using the ages and stages questionnaire (ASQ) and at 24 months of age with the Bayley-III test. Target recruitment is at least 150 cases classified in three groups according to three main severe CHD groups: transposition of great arteries (TGA), Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Obstruction (LVOTO). DISCUSSION: The results of NEURO-HEART study will provide the most comprehensive knowledge until date of children's neurologic prognosis in CHD and will have the potential for developing future clinical decisive tools and improving preventive strategies in CHD

    Lenalidomide and dexamethasone with or without clarithromycin in patients with multiple myeloma ineligible for autologous transplant: a randomized trial

    Although case-control analyses have suggested an additive value with the association of clarithromycin to continuous lenalidomide and dexamethasone (Rd), there are not phase III trials confirming these results. In this phase III trial, 286 patients with MM ineligible for ASCT received Rd with or without clarithromycin until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). With a median follow-up of 19 months (range, 0-54), no significant differences in the median PFS were observed between the two arms (C-Rd 23 months, Rd 29 months; HR 0.783, p = 0.14), despite a higher rate of complete response (CR) or better in the C-Rd group (22.6% vs 14.4%, p = 0.048). The most common G3-4 adverse events were neutropenia [12% vs 19%] and infections [30% vs 25%], similar between the two arms; however, the percentage of toxic deaths was higher in the C-Rd group (36/50 [72%] vs 22/40 [55%], p = 0.09). The addition of clarithromycin to Rd in untreated transplant ineligible MM patients does not improve PFS despite increasing the ?CR rate due to the higher number of toxic deaths in the C-Rd arm. Side effects related to overexposure to steroids due to its delayed clearance induced by clarithromycin in this elderly population could explain these results.     Merozoite release from Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes involves the transfer of DiIC16 from infected cell membrane to Maurer’s clefts

    Merozoite release from infected erythrocytes is a complex process, which is still not fully understood. Such process was characterised at ultra-structural level in this work by labelling erythrocyte membrane with a fluorescent lipid probe and subsequent photo-conversion into an electron-dense precipitate. A lipophilic DiIC16 probe was inserted into the infected erythrocyte surface and the transport of this phospholipid analogue through the erythrocyte membrane was followed up during 48 h of the asexual erythrocyte cycle. The lipid probe was transferred from infected erythrocyte membranes to Maurer’s clefts during merozoite release, thereby indicating that these membranes remained inside host cells after parasite release. Fluorescent structures were never observed inside infected erythrocytes preceding merozoite exit and merozoites released from infected erythrocyte were not fluorescent. However, specific precipitated material was localised bordering the parasitophorous vacuole membrane and tubovesicular membranes when labelled non-infected erythrocytes were invaded by merozoites. It was revealed that lipids were interchangeable from one membrane to another, passing from infected erythrocyte membrane to Maurer’s clefts inside the erythrocyte ghost, even after merozoite release. Maurer’s clefts became photo-converted following merozoite release, suggesting that these structures were in close contact with infected erythrocyte membrane during merozoite exit and possibly played some role in malarial parasite exit from the host cell
