Chemical composition, cytotoxicity and larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti of essential oils from Vitex gardineriana Schauer
Vitex gardneriana Schauer (Lamiaceae) popularly known as “jaramataia”, is a shrub commonly found in caatinga biome located in Northeast Brazil. In folk medicine, its leaves have been used as analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents. The chemical composition of the essential oil from leaves obtained by hydrodistillation was analyzed and identified by GC-MS and GC-FID and showing a total of 26 constituents (95.9%) being 2 monoterpenes (0.4%) and 24 sesquiterpenes (95.4%). The main constituents identified were cis-calamenene (29.7%), 6,9-guaiadiene (14.5%) and caryophyllene oxide (14.0%). The essential oil has been demonstrated high larvicidal activity againstAedes aegypti (LC50 = 28.0 μg/mL). In the evaluation of the bioassay with Artemia salina the essential oil showed LC50 = 98.11 μg/mL. Inaddition, the essential oil did not show cytotoxicity (IC50 > 2.50 mg/mL) by the hemolysis assay

Metabolomics profile responses to changing environments in a common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) germplasm collection
Metabolomics is one of the most powerful -omics to assist plant breeding. Despite the recognized genetic diversity in Portuguese common bean germplasm, details on its metabolomics profiles are still missing. Aiming to promote their use and to understand the environment’s effect in bean metabolomics profiles, 107 Portuguese common bean accessions, cropped under contrasting environments, were analyzed using spectrophotometric, untargeted and targeted mass spectrometry approaches. Although genotype was the most relevant factor on bean metabolomics profile, a clear genotype × environment interaction was also detected. Multivariate analysis highlighted, on the heat-stress environment, the existence of higher levels of salicylic acid, and lower levels of triterpene saponins. Three clusters were defined within each environment. White accessions presented the lowest content and the colored ones the highest levels of prenol lipids and flavonoids. Sources of interesting metabolomics profiles are now identified for bean breeding, focusing either on local or on broad adaptation. To FCT, Portugal, in BEGEQA project (PTDC/AGR-TEC/3555/2012), E.M. Ageing in the critical contact process: a Monte Carlo study
The long-time dynamics of the critical contact process which is brought
suddenly out of an uncorrelated initial state undergoes ageing in close analogy
with quenched magnetic systems. In particular, we show through Monte Carlo
simulations in one and two dimensions and through mean-field theory that
time-translation invariance is broken and that dynamical scaling holds. We find
that the autocorrelation and autoresponse exponents lambda_{Gamma} and lambda_R
are equal but, in contrast to systems relaxing to equilibrium, the ageing
exponents a and b are distinct. A recent proposal to define a non-equilibrium
temperature through the short-time limit of the fluctuation-dissipation ratio
is therefore not applicable.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures, Latex2e with IOP macros; final for
