    Get PDF
Conflict situations originate through vast social and cultural diversity, with distinct interests, opinions, needs, and perceptions, as well as unequal power relation that, however, can ensure positive consequences for organizations, if made possible the use of balanced methodologies and systems focused at the diagnosis and implementation of changes that lead to evolution and qualitative transformation of the relationships among the parties involved. Considering the comprehension of the existence of a conflict as an inseparable part of the human condition, the main objective of this research work is to contribute to the discontinuation of its vision, perceived as limiting and harmful, as an omnipresent phenomenon in all dimensions of relational interactions, through the presentation of innovative actions and methodological approaches, focused on the creation of communication and interdependent relationships, which permit its connection to the management of constructive processes of reflection and self-knowledge inside organizations. In the areas of the corporate environment, for these tools to be successfully used effectively, organizations need an organizational culture and practice that welcomes such processes from the start, supporting leaderships focused on achieving positive global results that include, motivate, and inspire all of their components in favor of autonomous and multifaceted teams, fully adjusted to the new dynamics of the world, which is that of the permanent impermanence. From the perspective of the practical utility of this work, it is intended to confirm and enlarge the dissemination of the success of these tools in experiences that have been lived and reported through scientific papers, which are based on it, understanding that the road is long and that there are no ready-made formulas for human relations, but comprehending this issue will permit new concepts, focused on the empowerment of conflict management inside organizations most assertively and positively possible

Receptor-mediated endocytosis and trafficking between endosomal–lysosomal vacuoles in Giardia lamblia

    Get PDF
The early branching Giardia lamblia has highly polarized vacuoles, located underneath the plasma membrane, which have at least some of the characteristics of endosomes and of lysosomes. These peripheral vacuoles (PVs) are necessary for nutrient uptake and the maintenance of plasma membrane composition, but whether they carry out sorting and segregation of receptors and ligands is a matter of debate. Here, we showed that the internalization of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) to the PVs is highly dynamic in trophozoites with a rate similar to the internalization of the low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1. Moreover, by analyzing receptor-mediated and fluid-phase endocytosis in living cells, we showed that after endocytosis LDL but not dextran moved laterally between the PVs. We speculate on PV functional heterogeneity and maturation in this parasite.Fil: Rivero, Maria Romina. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Ups and Downs of Trampoline Use by Children: Risks and Current Recommendations

    Get PDF
The widespread increase in the recreational use of trampolines by children can be partially explained by the recent need to stay indoors during lockdowns due to the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. At the same time, there was a global increase in the number of pediatric accidents resulting from the domestic use of these devices. The resulting injuries may be severe, especially in younger age groups. Although the use of trampolines by children is discouraged in safety recommendations published by several scientific societies and some recent studies, there is still concern about the lack of knowledge about the risks of trampoline-related injuries. In this regard, this review article aimed to highlight the unique role of the pediatrician and / or family physician advising parents and caregivers as well as the general population to prevent trampoline-related accidents involving children

Evaluation of nickel and copper catalysts in biogas reforming for hydrogen production in SOFC

    Get PDF
The solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) enable the efficient generation of clean energy, fitting the current requirementsof the growing demand for electricity and for the environment preservation. When powered with biogas(from digesters of municipal wastes), the SOFCs also contribute to reduce the environmental impact ofthese wastes. The most suitable route to produce hydrogen inside SOFC from biogas is through dry reformingbut the catalyst is easily deactivated by coke, because of the high amounts of carbon in the stream. Apromising way to overcome this drawback is by adding a second metal to nickel-based catalysts. Aiming toobtain active, selective and stable catalysts for biogas dry reforming, solids based on nickel (15%) and copper(5%) supported on aluminum and magnesium oxide were studied in this work. Samples were prepared byimpregnating the support with nickel and copper nitrate, followed by calcination at 500, 600 and 800 oC. Itwas noted that all solids were made of nickel oxide, nickel aluminate and magnesium aluminate but no coppercompound was found. The specific surface areas did not changed with calcination temperature but thenickel oxide average particles size increased. The solids reducibility decreased with increasing temperature. All catalysts were active in methane dry reforming, leading to similar conversions but different selectivitiesto hydrogen and different activities in water gas shift reaction (WGSR). This behavior was assigned to differentinteractions between nickel and copper, at different calcination temperatures. All catalysts were active inWGSR, decreasing the hydrogen to carbon monoxide molar ratio and producing water. The catalyst calcinedat 500 oC was the most promising one, leading to the highest hydrogen yield, besides the advantage of beingproduced at the lowest calcination temperature, requiring less energy in its preparation

Characterization and Behaviour of Pt Catalysts Supported on Basic Materials in Dry Reforming of Methane

Different basic materials, such as K-L zeolite, K-Al2O3, K-Mg/Al mixed oxide and MgO, were used as supports of Pt-catalysts for the dry reforming of methane (DR) reaction. The effects of the distribution of basic strength in the support on the metal-support properties and catalyst performance were evaluated. The density of strong and the total basic sites decreased as follows: MgO>K(Mg-Al) >K-Al2O3 >K-L. The total basic sites decrease from 214 to 23 µmol CO2.g-1, for MgO and KL, respectively. Pt catalysts supported on materials with high density of strong basic sites such as MgO were the most adequate for the DR reaction. An increase in the dehydrogenation velocity of 12.1 to 25.2 mol h-1 g-1 was observed between Pt/KL and Pt/MgO, which indicates a higher metallic dispersion of the latter catalyst. With respect to the DR reaction, both catalysts have a similar CO2 conversion, but the CH4 conversion and the H2 /CO ratio increase from 71.1 to 83.0 % and 0.5 to 0.73, respectively. The best catalytic behaviour of Pt/MgO would be related with the good interaction between the metal and the basic support. The methane conversion and the H2/CO ratios obtained by DR reaction correlate quite well with the basicity of the different catalysts.Fil: Ballarini, Adriana Daniela. Exosome biogenesis in the protozoa parasite Giardia lamblia: A model of reduced interorganellar crosstalk

    Get PDF
Extracellular vesicles (EVs) facilitate intercellular communication and are considered a promising therapeutic tool for the treatment of infectious diseases. These vesicles involve microvesicles (MVs) and exosomes and selectively transfer proteins, lipids, mRNAs, and microRNAs from one cell to another. While MVs are formed by extrusion of the plasma membrane, exosomes are a population of vesicles of endosomal origin that are stored inside the multivesicular bodies (MVBs) as intraluminal vesicles (ILVs) and are released when the MVBs fuse with the plasma membrane. Biogenesis of exosomes may be driven by the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery or may be ESCRT independent, and it is still debated whether these are entirely separate pathways. In this manuscript, we report that the protozoan parasite, Giardia lamblia, although lacking a classical endo-lysosomal pathway, is able to produce and release exosome-like vesicles (ElV). By using a combination of biochemical and cell biology analyses, we found that the ElVs have the same size, shape, and protein and lipid composition as exosomes described for other eukaryotic cells. Moreover, we established that some endosome/lysosome peripheral vacuoles (PVs) contain ILV during the stationary phase. Our results indicate that ILV formation and ElV release depend on the ESCRT-associated AAA+-ATPase Vps4a, Rab11, and ceramide in this parasite. Interestingly, EIV biogenesis and release seems to occur in Giardia despite the fact that this parasite has lost most of the ESCRT machinery components during evolution and is unable to produce ceramide de novo. The differences in protozoa parasite EV composition, origin, and release may reveal functional and structural properties of EVs and, thus, may provide information on cell-to-cell communication and on survival mechanisms.Fil: Moyano, Sofia.
