    The geometry of weakly-Einstein manifolds

    Get PDF
The geometry of Einstein manifiolds is a well studied topic in differential geometry. Einstein metrics appear in the analysis of critical metrics for some Riemannian functionals. They add strong conditions on the manifold, so it is a natural question trying to weaken this condition. This thesis is devoted to the study of the so called weakly-Einstein manifolds. This conditions are analyzed under some special assumptions in different frames such as locally conformally flat manifolds, hypersurfaces or homogeneous manifolds. Moreover, other conditions related with the weakly-Einstein ones are also studied which are the generalized Einstein one and the two-loop renormalization flow

Structure of locally conformally flat manifolds satisfying some weakly-Einstein conditions

It is given a complete study of locally conformally flat metrics satisfying some weakly-Einstein conditions. It is shown that they are either a product Mn(c)xMn(-c) or a warped product RxfRn-1 for some specific warping function. Moreover, some conditions on locally conformally flat fixed points for the RG2 flow are pointed outS

Use of Internet for General and Dental Health along Acculturation Features in a Sample of Mexican Americans

The objectives of this study were to explore self-reported Internet and electronic platforms used to search for and store medical and dental information among people of Mexican origin. A sample of adults self-identified as European American (250) and as Mexican American (255), residing in Central Indiana, answered a one-time survey that included technology use questions and measured acculturation via the Psychological-Behavioral Acculturation Scale. Overall use of information technologies was estimated through an Information and Communication Technology score. Overall, participants with higher scores searched online for general and oral health information at higher rates than those with lower scores. Younger Mexican Americans and those with higher use scores were more likely to search online for general health information, as were those more psychologically and behaviorally acculturated. Interestingly, Mexican Americans were more likely than European Americans to search online for dental health information. All participants demonstrated high interest in accessing and storing their own health information especially on paper format; storage in other places, such as personal computers, smartphones, or USB flash drives, was less endorsed. Most participants would allow spouses access to their health records; however, there were significant differences between both population groups regarding access given to physicians, dentists and other family members, with Mexican Americans reporting more restrictions. Our findings provide initial information on differential use pattern of electronic health resources among Mexican Americans and suggest that new information technologies reach population groups traditionally underserved; such features may help address disparities in general and dental health

Preparedness for dental practice in Australia:a qualitative study on the experiences of final-year students and new graduates

    Get PDF
Background: Limited data exists regarding the perspectives of newly graduated dental practitioners (NGDPs) and final-year students (FYS) about their preparedness for dental practice. This information is crucial to inform developments in ongoing professional development for newly qualified dental practitioners and future reviews and development of accreditation standards, policies, and the professional competencies of newly qualified dental practitioners. Thus, the primary goal of this paper was to describe the perceptions of preparedness for dental practice of NGDPs and FYSs.Methods: Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted between March and July 2020. All interviews were audiotaped, transcribed, and analysed using a thematic analysis. Results: Eighteen NGDPs and four FYS from across Australia participated in the qualitative interviews. A strong theme from the data was that respondents believed they were well prepared for common challenges in dental practice and patient care. A second prominent theme was participants’ awareness of specific areas of limitation in their knowledge and specific skills including (list them). This data highlights a high level of self-awareness and potential for self-directed learning of NGDPs. It also provides specific content areas for future curriculum developers. Conclusions: Newly graduated dental practitioner and final-year student participants were satisfied with the theoretical and evidence-based information in their formal learning and teaching activities to begin practicing as dental practitioners. In some areas, NGDPs felt underprepared, mostly attributed to limited clinical treatment exposure, and other contextual elements of clinical practice, and thought transitional support may be required. The research reinforces the value of seeking and learning from students’ and NGDPs’ perspectives.</p
