The disposition effect among mutual fund participants : a re- examination
Using information on mutual fund trades executed from 1998 to 2017 by 31,513 individual investor clients of a major Portuguese financial institution, we study the relationship between the disposition effect, financial literacy and trading experience. We find that mutual fund investors exhibit strong disposition effect. The tendency to hold losers is partially offset with literacy: not only holding a university degree reduces the propensity to hold on to loser funds but also higher financial knowledge and stronger math skills reduce the disposition effect. Literacy also plays a role in shaping the way experience affects this bias. Evidence of the disposition effect persists after accounting for redemption fees, bad emotions, irrational beliefs, market sentiment and the existence of someone to blame.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

“This is England?”: England and its identities through the lens of the Heritage Film in the panorama of cultural tourism
This paper aims to discuss a [lm genre that has been debated in the context of Brit-
ish [lm (but not only), the ‘heritage [lm’, focusing on how it has projected a partic-
ular image of England and of English society. We intend to question the projection
for the world of a speci[c image of English identity founded on the nostalgic idea
of the Empire. In this sense, focus will be on the way many of the [lms produced or
co-produced in England in the last thirty to forty years make use of the country’s
cultural heritage (architectural, natural, historical), perpetuating a certain nostalgic
idea of what English identity is and helping to promote this idea of the country
abroad, something that is also utilized by the tourism industry.
This essay aims at questioning the representation of identity from the dual perspective
of race and gender, assuming in its analysis that the intersection between the two
variants is fundamental. The article takes into consideration that gender is an important
variant that may introduce changes in the way we view multicultural integration within
western societies. The novel Brick Lane, by Monica Ali, as well as the film under the same
title by Sarah Gavron will serve as our objects of analysis in this discussion.
On
Transnational adaptations: the nineteenth-century novel revisited through a transcultural lens
"The many languages of comparative literature: collected papers of the 21st Congress of the ICLA. Vol. 5 - Dialogues between Media"This article aims to address issues of adaptation from the point of view of transcultural and transhistorical film adaptations of classic nineteenth-century realist novels. I propose to discuss a number of these adaptations, taking into account production aspects as well as stylistic elements that enhance the trans national/global angle of the films. There are many examples of these, including the popular Bride and Prejudice (2004), an adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel by director Gurinder Chadha, or the film Trishna, directed by Michael Winterbottom (2012), which is based on Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles. We can call
them transcultural and transhistorical adaptations, since they relocate the narra tives that inspired them to different geographical and historical settings. We will frame our discussion of these adaptations using theories of adaptation, namely those of Linda Hutcheon and Robert Stam, as well as within a discussion of trans-national film studies.(undefined
