Portuguese women's access to education at the turn of the century: the ideology of separate spheres

Abstract

This paper proposes an overview of women's education in Portugal at the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. It looks specifically at the debate around the social situation of women at that time under the ideology of separate spheres in the texts of three proponenst of female education: Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho, D. António da Costa and Ana de Castro Osóri
