    Coherent control of quantum transport: modulation-enhanced phase detection and band spectroscopy

    Amplitude modulation of a tilted optical lattice can be used to steer the quantum transport of matter wave packets in a very flexible way.     A holonic approach to the integration of automated systems

    During several years building and residential automation was thought as a good test bed for integration methods applied to automated systems. A reason for that is the large response time of these systems and the fact that they assemble a set of very well known sub-systems (HVAC, security, elevators, etc.). Even recent innovations in residential environments are based on components based on solid and scalable technology. On the other hand the degree of integration did not improve as much as expected. In this paper we investigate this problem, first from a practical point of view, that is, based on the design and implementation difficulties that designers and vendors face everyday, and second from a technical and methodological point of view, which means finding a new control architecture that could lead to real flexible and integrated systems. Frame architectures could provide a better and modern approach relying on a heterarchic arrangement of sensors and actuators. Some years ago part of the authors proposed a similar architecture based on a generic element called integron. Now we revisit the same point with a new version of the same element focusing on the arrangement of the whole system and on the information flow instead of just distributing the control. We claim that such approach is more efficient. Also it will better fit the requirements in a heterogeneous environment such as residential automation

    Aim: To calibrate eight-polar bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) against dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for the assessment of total and appendicular body composition in healthy adults.Research design: A cross-sectional study was carried out.Subjects: Sixty-eight females and 42 males aged 21-82 years participated in the study.Methods: Whole-body fat-free mass (FFM) and appendicular lean tissue mass (LTM) were measured by DXA; resistance (R) of arms, trunk and legs was measured by eight-polar BIA at frequencies of 5, 50, 250 and 500 kHz; whole-body resistance was calculated as the sum R of arms, trunk and legs.Results: The resistance index (RI), i.e. the height(2)/resistance ratio, was the best predictor of FFM and appendicular LTM. As compared with weight (Wt), RI at 500 kHz explained 35% more variance of FFM (R-adj(2) =0.92 vs 0.57), 45% more variance of LTMarm (R-adj(2) = 0.93 vs 0.48) and 36% more variance of LTleg (R-adj(2) = 0.86 vs 0.50) (p < 0.001 for all). The contribution of age to the unexplained variance of FFM and appendicular LTM was nil or negligible and the RI x sex interactions were either not significant or not important on practical grounds. The percent root mean square error of the estimate was 6% for FFM and 8% for LTMarm and LTMleg.Conclusion: Eight-polar BIA offers accurate estimates of total and appendicular body composition. The attractive hypothesis that eight-polar BIA is influenced minimally by age and sex should be tested on larger samples including younger individuals

    Merging person-specific bio-markers for predicting oral cancer recurrence through an ontology

    One of the major problems related to cancer treatment is its recurrence. Without knowing in advance how likely the cancer will relapse, clinical practice usually recommends adjuvant treatments that have strong side effects. A way to optimize treatments is to predict the recurrence probability by analyzing a set of bio-markers. The NeoMark European project has identified a set of preliminary bio-markers for the case of oral cancer by collecting a large series of data from genomic, imaging, and clinical evidence. This heterogeneous set of data needs a proper representation in order to be stored, computed, and communicated efficiently. Ontologies are often considered the proper mean to integrate biomedical data, for their high level of formality and for the need of interoperable, universally accepted models. This paper presents the NeoMark system and how an ontology has been designed to integrate all its heterogeneous data. The system has been validated in a pilot in which data will populate the ontology and will be made public for further research

    A stochastic model of the emergence of autocatalytic cycles

    Autocatalytic cycles are rather common in biological systems and they might have played a major role in the transition from non-living to living systems. Several theoretical models have been proposed to address the experimentalists during the investigation of this issue and most of them describe a phase transition depending upon the level of heterogeneity of the chemical soup. Nevertheless, it is well known that reproducing the emergence of autocatalytic sets in wet laboratories is a hard task. Understanding the rationale at the basis of such a mismatch between theoretical predictions and experimental observations is therefore of fundamental importance. We here introduce a novel stochastic model of catalytic reaction networks, in order to investigate the emergence of autocatalytic cycles, sensibly considering the importance of noise, of small-number effects and the possible growth of the number of different elements in the system. Furthermore, the introduction of a temporal threshold that defines how long a specific reaction is kept in the reaction graph allows to univocally define cycles also within an asynchronous framework. The foremost analyses have been focused on the study of the variation of the composition of the incoming flux. It was possible to show that the activity of the system is enhanced, with particular regard to the emergence of autocatalytic sets, if a larger number of different elements is present in the incoming flux, while the specific length of the species seems to entail minor effects on the overall dynamics

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana peran dan efektivitas Otoritas Jasa Keuangan dalam perlindungan terhadap penyalahgunaan data pribadi dalam pinjaman online dan untuk mengetahui bagaimana peran dan tugas Otoritas Jasa Keuangan dalam pelaksanaan jasa keuangan. Dengan menggunakan metode penelitian normatif, dapat ditarik kesimpulan yaitu : 1. Peran Otoritas Jasa Keuangan sebagai lembaga negara independen dalam melindungi data pribadi konsumen pada aplikasi pinjaman online, memiliki batasan hanya kepada konsumen yang melakukan peminjaman pada aplikasi pinjaman online yang secara resmi terdaftar di Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, perlindungan yang diberikan berupa pengambilan tindakan kepada jasa keuangan/pinjaman online tersebut, melakukan gugatan, dan melakukan ganti rugi atas korban yang mengalami kerugian materil. Namun apabila melakukan peminjaman pada Aplikasi Pinjaman Online yang tidak terdaftar secara resmi atau ilegal maka Konsumen tersebut tidak mendapatkan perlindungan oleh Otoritas Jasa Keuangan. 2. Otoritas Jasa Keuangan mempunyai peran dan tugas mengatur dan mengawasi pengelolaan kegiatan sektor jasa keuangan, menegakkan peraturan perundang-undangan di bidang jasa keuangan, melakukan langkah-langkah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan memelihara kepercayaan publik terhadap jasa keuangan serta melakukan langkah-langkah untuk perlindungan terhadap konsumen dari sektor jasa keuangan.   Kata Kunci : penyalahgunaan data pribadi, OJK &nbsp
