    . This study aims to grouping the diversity of banana (Musa spp.) from Aceh Besar District based on vegetative morphological characters of banana germplasm. Observations included quantitative and qualitative characters. Grouping based on pseudostem height were divided into three groups. The first group, short pseudostem, is 4 accessions. The second group, medium pseudostem, are 9 of accession. Last, the third group, high pseudostem, are 7 accessions. While based on 28 qualitative characters, formed dendogram classifying banana accessions into 3 groups. Based on the character type of petoile canal, predominant underlying color of pseudostem and blotches of petiole base, the first and second groups are classified into the group that have dominant genome A (derived from Musa acuminata), while the third group has dominant genome B (derived from Musa balbisiana)

    Effect of a 24-Week Randomized Trial of an Organic Produce Intervention on Pyrethroid and Organophosphate Pesticide Exposure Among Pregnant Women

    Background: Introduction of an organic diet can significantly reduce exposure to some classes of pesticides in children and adults, but no long-term trials have been conducted. Objectives: To assess the effect of a long-term (24-week) organic produce intervention on pesticide exposure among pregnant women. Methods: We recruited 20 women from the Idaho Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program during their first trimester of pregnancy. Eligible women were nonsmokers aged 18–35 years who reported eating exclusively conventionally grown food. We randomly assigned participants to receive weekly deliveries of either organic or conventional fruits and vegetables throughout their second or third trimesters and collected weekly spot urine samples. Urine samples, which were pooled to represent monthly exposures, were analyzed for biomarkers of organophosphate (OP) and pyrethroid insecticides. Results: Food diary data demonstrated that 66% of all servings of fruits and vegetables consumed by participants in the “organic produce” group were organic, compared totrans-3-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylic acid, was detected more frequently in women in the conventional compared to the organic produce groups (16% vs 4%, p=0.05). In contrast, we observed no statistically significant differences in detection frequency or concentrations for any of the four biomarkers of OP exposure quantified in this trial. Discussion: To our knowledge, this is the first long-term organic diet intervention study, and the first to include pregnant women. These results suggest that addition of organic produce to an individual\u27s diet, as compared to conventional produce, significantly reduces exposure to pyrethroid insecticides

    A Novel Cellular Handset Design for an Enhanced Antenna Performance and a Reduced SAR in the Human Head

    This paper presents a novel cellular handset design with a bottom-mounted short loaded-whip antenna. This new handset design is modeled and simulated using a finite difference time-domain (FDTD)-based platform SEMCAD. The proposed handset is based on a current commercially available bar-phone type with a curvature shape, keypad positioned above the screen, and top-mounted antenna. The specific absorption rates (SARs) are determined computationally in the specific anthropomorphic mannequin (SAM) and anatomically correct model of a human head when exposed to the EM-field radiation of the proposed cellular handset and the handset with top-mounted antenna. The two cellular handsets are simulated to operate at both GSM standards, 900 MHz as well as 1800 MHz, having different antenna dimensions and intput power of 0.6 W and 0.125 W, respectively. The proposed human hand holding the two handset models is a semirealistic hand model consists of three tissues: skin, muscle, and bone. The simulations are conducted with handset positions based on the IEEE standard 1528-2003. The results show that the proposed handset has a significant improvement of antenna efficiency when it is hand-held close to head, as compared with the handset of top-mounted antenna. Also, the results show that a significant reduction of the induced SAR in the human head-tissues can be achieved with the proposed handset

    Indoor characterization of a reflective type 3D LCPV system

Available from AIP Publishing via the DOI in this record.Low concentrating photovoltaic (LCPV) systems produces higher electrical output per unit solar cell compared to typical PV systems. The high efficiency Si solar cells can be utilized with little design and manufacturing changes for these applications. However, a key barrier towards achieving economic viability and the widespread adoption of LCPV technologies is the losses related to high operating temperature. In the present study, we evaluate the performance 3D low concentration system designed for 3.6x, using a reflective Cross compound parabolic concentrator (CCPC) and a Laser Grooved Buried Contact solar cell having an area of 50∗50mm 2 . Results demonstrate the losses occurring due to the temperature rise of the solar cell under concentration and we analyze the potential which could be utilized for low grade heating applications.The authors gratefully acknowledge financial support received from the EPSRC through Solar Challenge project SUNTRAP (EP/K022156/1).     Multi-organ spatial stratification of 3-D dose distributions improves risk prediction of long-term self-reported severe symptoms in oropharyngeal cancer patients receiving radiotherapy:development of a pre-treatment decision support tool

    PURPOSE: Identify Oropharyngeal cancer (OPC) patients at high-risk of developing long-term severe radiation-associated symptoms using dose volume histograms for organs-at-risk, via unsupervised clustering.MATERIAL AND METHODS: All patients were treated using radiation therapy for OPC. Dose-volume histograms of organs-at-risk were extracted from patients' treatment plans. Symptom ratings were collected via the MD Anderson Symptom Inventory (MDASI) given weekly during, and 6 months post-treatment. Drymouth, trouble swallowing, mucus, and vocal dysfunction were selected for analysis in this study. Patient stratifications were obtained by applying Bayesian Mixture Models with three components to patient's dose histograms for relevant organs. The clusters with the highest total mean doses were translated into dose thresholds using rule mining. Patient stratifications were compared against Tumor staging information using multivariate likelihood ratio tests. Model performance for prediction of moderate/severe symptoms at 6 months was compared against normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) models using cross-validation.RESULTS: A total of 349 patients were included for long-term symptom prediction. High-risk clusters were significantly correlated with outcomes for severe late drymouth (p &lt;.0001, OR = 2.94), swallow (p = .002, OR = 5.13), mucus (p = .001, OR = 3.18), and voice (p = .009, OR = 8.99). Simplified clusters were also correlated with late severe symptoms for drymouth (p &lt;.001, OR = 2.77), swallow (p = .01, OR = 3.63), mucus (p = .01, OR = 2.37), and voice (p &lt;.001, OR = 19.75). Proposed cluster stratifications show better performance than NTCP models for severe drymouth (AUC.598 vs.559, MCC.143 vs.062), swallow (AUC.631 vs.561, MCC.20 vs -.030), mucus (AUC.596 vs.492, MCC.164 vs -.041), and voice (AUC.681 vs.555, MCC.181 vs -.019). Simplified dose thresholds also show better performance than baseline models for predicting late severe ratings for all symptoms.CONCLUSION: Our results show that leveraging the 3-D dose histograms from radiation therapy plan improves stratification of patients according to their risk of experiencing long-term severe radiation associated symptoms, beyond existing NTPC models. Our rule-based method can approximate our stratifications with minimal loss of accuracy and can proactively identify risk factors for radiation-associated toxicity.</p

    Asymmetric Synthesis and Biological Screening of Quinoxaline-Containing Synthetic Lipoxin A₄ Mimetics (QNX-sLXms)

    Failure to resolve inflammation underlies many prevalent pathologies. Recent insights have identified lipid mediators, typified by lipoxins (LXs), as drivers of inflammation resolution, suggesting potential therapeutic benefit. We report the asymmetric preparation of novel quinoxaline-containing synthetic-LXA4-mimetics (QNX-sLXms). Eight novel compounds were screened for their impact on inflammatory responses. Structure–activity relationship (SAR) studies showed that (R)-6 (also referred to as AT-02-CT) was the most efficacious and potent anti-inflammatory compound of those tested. (R)-6 significantly attenuated lipopolysaccharide (LPS)- and tumor-necrosis-factor-α (TNF-α)-induced NF-ÎșB activity in monocytes and vascular smooth muscle cells. The molecular target of (R)-6 was investigated. (R)-6 activated the endogenous LX receptor formyl peptide receptor 2 (ALX/FPR2). The anti-inflammatory properties of (R)-6 were further investigated in vivo in murine models of acute inflammation. Consistent with in vitro observations, (R)-6 attenuated inflammatory responses. These results support the therapeutic potential of the lead QNX-sLXm (R)-6 in the context of novel inflammatory regulators
