    Get PDF
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is implemented unevenly in the Spanish tourism industry. The hotel infrastructure of the country is not an exception. This study analyses the environmental, social and economic dimensions of initiatives with respect to the hotel offer which consumers living in Spain appreciate and value more based on their gender. Empirical analysis is approached using a model of structural equations in which the intensity and sign of differences between men and women can be seen. The main results show that aspects related to the environment are the most important for both genders. The dimensions in which differences are defined are the economic, more valued by men; and social, more valued by women. The document provides relevant information, filling a knowledge gap in this field

Artificial intelligence (AI) is influencing various sectors of society, including the educational field. The use of AI can have great potential in education, however, it is necessary to know both its performance and its limitations. The main objective of this study is to analyze the prompts made by teachers in initial training in relation to the topic of specific educational support needs, classifying them according to Bloom's Taxonomy. For this, 63 students from the first year of the Primary Education Degree in the subject Information and Communication Technology applied to Education participated. The results show that the highest frequency of prompts made by students correspond to the highest levels of Bloom's taxonomy (apply and create), which suggests that students are capable of using the knowledge acquired in the subject to create new learning situations with their future students. This confirms that the implementation of this methodology is beneficial for the development of cognitive and pedagogical skills of future teachers.VI Research and Transfer Plan of the University of Seville (VI PPIT-US)IV Plan Propio de Docencia. Generation of new tools to fight/counteract protein aggregation.

    Get PDF
Cells need to eliminate unfolded, damaged, or aged protein in order to maintain protein homeostasis, a mechanism known as proteostasis. Whereas molecular chaperones contribute to proteostasis by promoting correct protein folding, the proteasome, and autophagy are the main proteolytic machinery for the selective elimination of these proteins.¹ Mutation in components of these systems or stress situations that overwhelm these proteostasis mechanisms results in the accumulation of damaging protein aggregates that in humans cause neurodegenerative diseases. Furthermore, during aging, there is an overall decrease in the activity of these proteins’ clearance machinery which generates a state of chronic proteostasis stress that eventually leads to cell death.²In this project, we aim to build different genetic tools to assay proteolytic activities in S. pombe cells and determine the relative level of protein aggregation. These tools will allow us to characterize in more detail both, the stress-induced protein aggregations and the activity and relative level of aggregation in different proteasome mutants. In addition, using different molecular biology techniques, we will develop genetic tools to induce proteotoxicity through the expression of human proteins prone to aggregation, and hallmarks of neurodegenerative diseases. Finally, it is known that molecular chaperones prevent protein aggregation by interacting and blocking aggregation-prone domains. In this context, using both, a mutant of the proteasome which accumulates protein aggregates and mimics an aged cell, and some of the tools generated.., we will screen compounds that function as chemical chaperones and decrease proteotoxicity. These chemical chaperones might help to develop new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases and aging.

Metabolites produced by an altered gut microbiota might mediate the effects in the brain. Among metabolites, the fecal volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are considered to be potential biomarkers. In this study, we examined both the VOCs and bacterial taxa in the feces from healthy subjects and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients at early and middle stages. Remarkably, 29 fecal VOCs and 13 bacterial genera were differentiated from the healthy subjects and the AD patients. In general, higher amounts of acids and esters were found in in the feces of the AD patients and terpenes, sulfur compounds and aldehydes in the healthy subjects. At the early stage of AD, the most relevant VOCs with a higher abundance were short-chain fatty acids and their producing bacteria, Faecalibacterium and Lachnoclostridium. Coinciding with the development of dementia in the AD patients, parallel rises of heptanoic acid and Peptococcus were observed. At a more advanced stage of AD, the microbiota and volatiles shifted towards a profile in the feces with increases in hexanoic acid, Ruminococcus and Blautia. The most remarkable VOCs that were associated with the healthy subjects were 4-ethyl-phenol and dodecanol, together with their possible producers Clostridium and Coprococcus. Our results revealed a VOCs and microbiota crosstalk in AD development and their profiles in the feces were specific depending on the stage of AD. Additionally, some of the most significant fecal VOCs identified in our study could be used as potential biomarkers for the initiation and progression of AD

[Abstract] Musculoskeletal injuries in elite sports are ones of the most impact issue because their remarkable impact on performance caused by drastic absence of training and competition and a progressive deterioration in physical health, emotional and social athletes’ dimen- sions. Also, the prevalence of epidemiologic research found an incidence of musculoskeletal disorders vary within sports and in elite athletes which is even higher as a consequence of higher demand physical performance. This way, the loss of physical performance due to an sport injury impacts not only the individual economic sphere of the professional but also that of sports entities, reaching, according to some studies, a loss estimated in the range of 74.7 million pounds. Thus, the purpose of this article is to review and to pro- vide an overview of the most common musculoskeletal injuries in elite sports precipitating factors, clinical presentation, evidence-based diagnostic evaluation, and treatment recom- mendations with a view to preventing medical conditions or musculoskeletal injuries that may alter performance and general health in the elite athletes

Predictive validity of the Spanish version of the Sexual Inhibition/Sexual Excitation Scales-Short Form (SIS/SES-SF) was examined. We correlated sexual inhibition and sexual excitation with subjective arousal and genital response during exposure to visual erotic stimuli. A sample of 164 heterosexual young people completed the SIS/SES-SF and the MGH-SFQ. Participants performed an experimental sequence in which a neutral content film and an erotic film were presented. In the meantime, genital response and subjective sexual arousal were evaluated. Results showed significant differences between neutral and sexually explicit films in objective and subjective arousal in both men and women. A significant correlation between SES and subjective arousal was obtained in women. Propensity to become aroused explained 18% of the variance of female subjective arousal and 6% of female genital sensations. Sexual inhibition related to the threat of sexual performance failure was able to discriminate difficulties in sexual functioning in both men and women. Finally, there is a need to assess the subjective sexual arousal along with the objective sexual response
