    Determining the role of greatness plan on learning the manners and skills of Islamic life by students in the opinion of teachers and principals of elementary schools in Jarghoyeh district

    The aim of present research is to determine the role of greatness plan on learning the manners and skills of Islamic life by students in the opinion of teachers and principals of elementary schools in Jarghoyeh district in 2011-1391(2011-2012). The present study has been descriptive –traverse one and its statistical population included all principals and teachers of elementary schools in Jarghoyeh district (old and new Jarghoyeh) consisting 175 individuals. The statistical sample of this study included 120 individuals who were selected by Kockarn sampling method formula and in random categorical manner proportional to sample volume. The study tool was researcher-made questionnaire which was adjusted based on Likert’s 5- point scale (very much, much, good, medium, little).Data resulting from research were analyzed by using uni- variable T test and also LSD follow up test in SPSS software environment. The results of this study showed that the effect of teaching greatness plan is more than medium level in learning any of the skills of making relation with God, effective relationship, interpersonal relations, dignity, empathy, decision making, social order, self-esteem , thought, and self-consciousness in students but its effectiveness in learning emotion management skill by the students is in lower level.     Determining the Frequency Distribution of Ocular Manifestations in Multiple Sclerosis Patients

    Introduction: Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling neurological disease in young people. It is estimated that about 2 million people in the world suffer from this disease. Ocular involvement is one of the most prevalent clinical signs of MS. It is said that 25% of individuals suffer from vision problems during the development of disease. Therefore, this study was conducted in Yazd due to its climate changes and lack of study in this regard. Methods: This study is a cross sectional type, conducted with the aim of studying the frequency of eye symptoms in MS patients referring to the Shahid Sadoughi Yazd ophthalmology Clinic from 2012 to 2014. The Sample size includes 150 patients who referred to the clinic. The tool for gathering information was a questionnaire. After gathering 150 samples, all the data was coded and entered into the computer. Results were analyzed by SPSS18, descriptive statistics, and Chi 2 test. Results: The examined patients included 150 MS patients aged 33.48 years on average and with 28.43 years the onset age of disease examined. This study shows that blurred vision rate of 78.7% and the diplopia rate of 56% were the most prevalent vision complaints of patients from the starting the disease until examination. Optic atrophy with 14.7% and optic neuritis with 12% were the most common ocular findings in the examination. Conclusion: We can conclude that vision disorders are the common consequences of MS. These disorders are accompanied by factors such as age, sex, residence, and family background. Therefore, it is necessary to take the patients’ demographic characteristics into account in their initial examinations.</span

    The global burden of cancer attributable to risk factors, 2010-19 : a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019

    Background Understanding the magnitude of cancer burden attributable to potentially modifiable risk factors is crucial for development of effective prevention and mitigation strategies. We analysed results from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 to inform cancer control planning efforts globally. Methods The GBD 2019 comparative risk assessment framework was used to estimate cancer burden attributable to behavioural, environmental and occupational, and metabolic risk factors. A total of 82 risk-outcome pairs were included on the basis of the World Cancer Research Fund criteria. Estimated cancer deaths and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) in 2019 and change in these measures between 2010 and 2019 are presented. Findings Globally, in 2019, the risk factors included in this analysis accounted for 4.45 million (95% uncertainty interval 4.01-4.94) deaths and 105 million (95.0-116) DALYs for both sexes combined, representing 44.4% (41.3-48.4) of all cancer deaths and 42.0% (39.1-45.6) of all DALYs. There were 2.88 million (2.60-3.18) risk-attributable cancer deaths in males (50.6% [47.8-54.1] of all male cancer deaths) and 1.58 million (1.36-1.84) risk-attributable cancer deaths in females (36.3% [32.5-41.3] of all female cancer deaths). The leading risk factors at the most detailed level globally for risk-attributable cancer deaths and DALYs in 2019 for both sexes combined were smoking, followed by alcohol use and high BMI. Risk-attributable cancer burden varied by world region and Socio-demographic Index (SDI), with smoking, unsafe sex, and alcohol use being the three leading risk factors for risk-attributable cancer DALYs in low SDI locations in 2019, whereas DALYs in high SDI locations mirrored the top three global risk factor rankings. From 2010 to 2019, global risk-attributable cancer deaths increased by 20.4% (12.6-28.4) and DALYs by 16.8% (8.8-25.0), with the greatest percentage increase in metabolic risks (34.7% [27.9-42.8] and 33.3% [25.8-42.0]). Interpretation The leading risk factors contributing to global cancer burden in 2019 were behavioural, whereas metabolic risk factors saw the largest increases between 2010 and 2019. Reducing exposure to these modifiable risk factors would decrease cancer mortality and DALY rates worldwide, and policies should be tailored appropriately to local cancer risk factor burden.     The Impact of Thymidylate Synthase and Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Genotypes on Sensitivity to 5-Fluorouracil Treatment in Colorectal Cancer Cells

    5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is one of the major components of many standard regimens for chemotherapy of colorectal cancer (CRC) and some other malignancies. Given the known relationship between thymidylate synthase (TS) and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) activity and 5-FU metabolism, this study investigated the impact of selected functional polymorphisms of the TS and MTHFR genes on chemotherapy resistance in 5 human CRC cell lines. HCT116, SW1116, HT29/219, LS180, and Caco-2 CRC cells were cultured as monolayer and their chemosensitivity to 5-FU, oxaliplatin, and irinotecan was determined by MTT assay. Genomic DNA was extracted from the cultured cells, and a 6-bp insertion or deletion (6-bp ins/del) polymorphism in 3´-UTR of the TS gene was determined by the PCR-RFLP method. Genotyping of MTHFR 677 C/T and 1298A/C single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) was also performed by MS-PCR and PCR-RFLP, respectively. Caco-2 with the homozygous TS 6-bp ins/ins and MTHFR 677 T/T and 1298 C/C genotype, was the most 5-FU resistant cell line. HCT116 with the homozygous TS 6-bp del/del and MTHFR 1298 A/A and heterozygous MTHFR 677 C/T genotype was the least 5-FU resistant cell. LS180, the second most 5-FU resistant cell line, was heterozygous for all three polymorphic sits. HT29/219 and SW1116 cells with homozygous TS 6-bp ins/ins and heterozygous MTHFR 677 C/T and 1298 A/C genotypes had intermediate 5-FU sensitivity. The results indicate that TS 3´-UTR 6-bp insertion and MTHFR 677T and 1298C alleles increase 5-FU resistance in CRC cells. No relationship was observed between TS and MTHFR genotypes and oxaliplatin or irinotecan sensitivity in these cells
