Catalytic applications of small bite-angle diphosphorus ligands with single-atom linkers
Diphosphorus ligands connected by a single atom (R2PEPR2; E = CR2, CCR2and NR) give chelating ligands with very small bite-angles as well as enable access to other properties such as bridging modes and hemilability. ThisPerspectivereviews the properties of diphosphorus ligands featuring a single-atom linker and their applications in catalysis, including transformations of alkenes and transfer hydrogenation and hydrogen-borrowing reactions.</p
Measuring practice leadership in supported accommodation services for people with intellectual disability: Comparing staff-rated and observational measures
Background Studies incorporating staff-rated or observational measures of practice leadership have
shown that where practice leadership is stronger, active support is better implemented. The study
aim was to compare measures of practice leadership used in previous research to determine the
extent of their correspondence.
Method A subset of data from a longitudinal study regarding 29 front-line managers working across
36 supported accommodation services in Australia was used. An observed measure of practice
leadership, based on an interview and observation of a front-line manager, was compared with
ratings of practice leadership completed by staff. The quality of active support was rated after a
2-hour structured observation.
Results Correlations between staff-rated and observed measures were non-significant. Only the
observed measure was correlated with the quality of active support.
Conclusions This study provides evidence to support using an observational measure of practice
leadership rather than reliance on staff ratings
Rare Earth and Actinide Complexes
The rare earth metals (scandium, yttrium, lanthanum and the subsequent 4f elements) and actinides (actinium and the 5f elements) are vital components of our technology-dominated society.[...
Synergic deprotonation generates alkali-metal salts of tethered fluorenide NHC ligands co-complexed to alkali metal amides
Synergic combinations of alkali-metal hydrocarbyl/amide reagents were used to synthesise saturated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands tethered to a fluorenide anion through deprotonation of a spirocyclic precursor, whereas conventional bases were not successful. The Li2 derivatives displayed a bridging amide between two Li atoms within the fluorenide-NHC pocket, whereas the Na2 and K2 analogues displayed extended solid-state structures with the fluorenide-NHC ligand chelating one alkali metal centre
Synthesis and Reactivity of Fluorenyl-Tethered N-heterocyclic Stannylenes
N-Heterocyclic stannylenes containing a functionalised donor arm have been synthesised using a transamination strategy from [Sn{N(SiMe3)2}2] and fluorenyl-tethered diamines.</p
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of oxide formation on 8150 aluminium foils
It is known that an enrichment of metallic elements in the oxide layer of aluminium foils may significantly affect their surface properties. Elemental compositions at various depths of the newly developed 8150 aluminium foil were determined by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for selected heat treatment conditions. © Institute of Materials Engineering Australasia Ltd
Unexpected Multiple Coordination Modes in Silyl-Bridged Bis(phosphinine) Complexes
The
bis(phosphinine) [bis{3-methyl-6-(trimethylsilyl)phosphinine-2-yl}dimethylsilane]
(1) was synthesized and its coordination chemistry explored.
Molybdenum and chromium carbonyl complexes were crystallographically
characterized featuring 1 bound η6 through
one phosphinine [Mo(CO)3(η6-1)] (2Mo), η6 through
both phosphinines to two metal centers [{M(CO)3}2(μ-η6:η6-1)] (3M2, M = Cr, Mo),
and chelating with η1 coordination through both phosphines
[M(CO)4(κ:η1:η1-1)] (4M, M = Cr, Mo). However,
only 3Mo2 could be isolated analytically
pure. Heating species 3Mo2 in
the presence of [Pd(COD)Cl2] removed one CO
ligand and generated [{Mo(CO)2}(μ-κ:η1η6-η6-1){Mo(CO)3}] (5), which is the first crystallized example
of a bis(phosphinine) featuring chelating η1 and η6 coordination, as well as a metal
center bound to two phosphinines with different binding modes. In
order to enforce a chelating bis-η1 binding mode,
the Ru complex [Ru(Cp*)(Cl)(κ:η1:η1-1)] (6) was
prepared, demonstrating that judicious choice of metal fragment can
dictate the coordination mode of a bis(phosphinine). Conversion
of 6 to the hydride species [Ru(Cp*)(H)(κ:η1:η1-1)] (7) afforded the first crystallographically characterized example of
a complex with both phosphinine and hydride ligands at the same metal
center
Developing the evidence base for adult social care practice: The NIHR School for Social Care Research
In a foreword to 'Shaping the Future of Care Together', Prime Minister Gordon Brown says that a care and support system reflecting the needs of our times and meeting our rising aspirations is achievable, but 'only if we are prepared to rise to the challenge of radical reform'. A number of initiatives will be needed to meet the challenge of improving social care for the growing older population. Before the unveiling of the green paper, The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) announced that it has provided 15m pounds over a five-year period to establish the NIHR School for Social Care Research. The School's primary aim is to conduct or commission research that will help to improve adult social care practice in England. The School is seeking ideas for research topics, outline proposals for new studies and expert advice in developing research methods
Remote Job Application Simulation Using Technology in Athletic Training Students: A Preliminary Teaching Technique
While athletic training students go through extensive preparations for engaging with patient populations as healthcare providers, less time is spent on preparing athletic training students on how to secure employment after graduation. Without proper employment skills development, securing employment can pose a challenge for the athletic training student trying to enter the workforce. These skills include developing cover letters and resumes, and remote interviewing skills. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to explore the preparations, execution, and lessons learned from a simulated, remote job application and interview process for athletic training students. Methods: This educational technique was performed using certified athletic trainers as interviewers and reviewers of job application materials (i.e., cover letter, resume, and application email) created by athletic training students. Athletic training students were interviewed by a certified athletic trainer with whom they had no previous relationship. After the structured interview process, a debrief was conducted between the certified athletic trainer and athletic training student. The process was conducted via Zoom. Results: By using simulation techniques, athletic training students are able to experience a realistic review of their cover letters and resumes and engage in a realistic, remote job interview in a low-stakes environment with real-time, objective feedback. Conclusions: Overall, athletic training students\u27 reflections indicate the utility of the experience through interviewer observations, introspective observations, and overall thoughts on the experience. The faculty also identified ways to improve the experience in subsequent years
