Thermal Stability of the Magnetization in Perpendicularly Magnetized Thin Film Nanomagnets

Understanding the stability of thin film nanomagnets with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA) against thermally induced magnetization reversal is important when designing perpendicularly magnetized patterned media and magnetic random access memories. The leading-order dependence of magnetization reversal rates are governed by the energy barrier the system needs to surmount in order for reversal to proceed. In this paper we study the reversal dynamics of these systems and compute the relevant barriers using the string method of E, Vanden-Eijnden, and Ren. We find the reversal to be often spatially incoherent; that is, rather than the magnetization flipping as a rigid unit, reversal proceeds instead through a soliton-like domain wall sweeping through the system. We show that for square nanomagnetic elements the energy barrier increases with element size up to a critical length scale, beyond which the energy barrier is constant. For circular elements the energy barrier continues to increase indefinitely, albeit more slowly beyond a critical size. In both cases the energy barriers are smaller than those expected for coherent magnetization reversal.Comment: 5 pages, 4 Figure

Classroom Discussions as Distortions: Examining Discriminatory Teacher Practices

    Get PDF
Ms. Mendez, English Department chair in a large urban high school, has noticed a persistent pattern in the practices of her colleagues. These practices tend to be racially insensitive and emphasize a noncritical view that does not attend to students’ experiences and positions students from a deficit perspective. Realizing that such practices serve as social reproductions of racist and classist orientations that reproduce the existing social order, Ms. Mendez decided school leadership should be informed. However, she worries that the school’s leadership will not work to enact change and instead will take her concerns lightly

Relationship between factors of teachers’ leadership: Positive attitudes, professional activeness, and stress at school

    Get PDF
Today, the traditional role of teachers is challenged, and teaching practice requires less time for face-to-face instruction, a unique position that does not impose responsibilities on one person (teacher or student) and creates a common teaching and learning space in which new knowledge is co-created and socially developed. This change requires teachers’ high professionalism and leadership skills, which is the key component of a successful educational process. Therefore, it is important for researchers, school principals, and teachers to understand better the predictive factors of teachers’ leadership, which should be developed, nurtured, and sustained. This study addresses the teachers’ leadership regarding their attitudes toward themselves, attitudes towards the school, teachers’ activeness, and stress experienced at school. The study involved 418 teachers from five regions in Lithuania. The findings indicate that the four analyzed factors, influencing teacher leadership are strongly interrelated. Moreover, the research results reveal determinants surrounding the factors of interest, which leads to a more complex understanding of underlying reasons and problems related to practicing teachers’ leadership at school

Does Croatia need a general anti-avoidance rule? Recommended changes to Croatia's current legislative framework

    Get PDF
This paper considers whether Croatia would benefit from the introduction of a general anti-avoidance rule into its tax system. The paper gives an overview of what tax avoidance is and differentiates the concept from the related concepts of tax evasion and fraud. The paper then describes how general anti-avoidance rules work. The paper gives an overview of Croatia’s tax system, including the measures the country already has to combat tax avoidance, and concludes that a general anti-avoidance rule is necessary. The paper draws on the experiences of countries with legal systems similar to that of Croatia to suggest the form that a Croatian general anti-avoidance rule should take.tax, tax avoidance, tax evasion, shams, Croatia, abuse of rights, general anti-avoidance rule, Constitution.

The role of mental imagery as driver to purchase intentions in a virtual supermarket

This study aims to explore the role of mental imagery, product involvement and presence on emotions and purchase intentions. A quasi-experimental between-subjects design was implemented to test the proposed model. The quasi-experimental manipulation comprised a virtual grocery store, using VR. A quantitative approach was followed using a questionnaire to get data to test the model. The questionnaire was fulfilled after the 108 participants visualize the scenario through VR. The results reveal that all hypotheses are supported, expect H4. Product involvement is not associated to emotions.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
