Gender identity is becoming a concern in the modern world especially in the lives of trans* young people. They face negative school experiences, leading to poorer well-being and educational outcomes compared to their cisgender peers (McGuire et al., 2010). Currently, there is a lack of understanding on trans* young people’s experiences in the UK and within Alternative Education Provisions (AEPs). This study aims to generate knowledge about the experiences of trans* young people attending an AEP, the impact the change of settings (from general to alternative) has had on their gender-related experiences including their overall learning and well-being. Additionally, there is limited knowledge on supporting trans* young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This research provides a unique insight into the perspectives of these young people to broaden professional knowledge. Theoretically informed by bioecological theory, a qualitative case study design was implemented using semi structured interviews with five trans* young people, six parents and seven staff members within one AEP. Phase 1 of data collection involved preparatory work comprising of school consultations to plan data collection procedures. Phase 2 involved interviews with parents exploring their perceptions. Phase 3 involved rapport building with young people and explored their perceptions. Phase 4 explored staff perceptions on school beliefs, practices and support. All interviews were transcribed and thematically analysed using the six stages promoted by Braun and Clarke (2006). Five key themes emerged from the findings in relation to the young people’s experiences within the AEP and prior mainstream school settings. These included ‘school climate’, ‘understanding gender identity and available support’, ‘school relationships’, ‘supporting mental well-being and additional needs’ and ‘preparing for adulthood’. These themes are discussed and interpreted in relation to the theoretical framing and existing literature, key implications for the AEP and educational psychology practice are also discussed

Nasida Ria is a qasidah music group from Semarang which was founded in 1975. This group is popular, one of which is through the song titled 'Peace' which was released in 1982. This article attempts to dismantle the link between the lyrics of the song and the global situation that surrounds it. When it emerged in 1982, global conditions were hot due to the cold war and the Iran-Iraq war. While popular again in 2022, 'Peace' is relevant to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The lyrics of 'Peace' were analyzed textually, microsociologically, and macrosociologically using a discourse analysis approach from Norman Fairclough. The analysis resulted in the conclusion that from a textual analysis, 'Peace' emphasizes the contradiction aspect in conveying its ideas. In addition, Peace also points to the subject of "you" as the excluded part and the subject of "me" as the included part. In a microsociological analysis, 'Peace' conveys an Islamic message that can be linked through intertextual analysis of the Qur'anic verse, namely Q.S. Al Anfal: 61, Q.S. Al Hujurat: 9, Q.S. An-Nisaa: 90. From a macro-sociological analysis, 'Peace' is relevant in the context of peace from wars involving weapons

Among the physics of hadronic systems in neutrino interactions, the hadronization model controls multiplicities and kinematics of final state hadrons from the primary interaction vertex. For relatively high invariant mass events, neutrino interaction generators rely on the PYTHIA6 hadronization program. Here, we show a possible improvement of this process in neutrino event generators, by utilizing expertise from the HERMES experiment. Next, we discuss the possibility to implement the PYTHIA8 program in neutrino interaction generators, including GENIE and NEUT. Finally, we show preliminary comparisons of PYTHIA8 predictions with neutrino hadron multiplicity data from bubble chamber experiments within the GENIE hadronization validation tool

    Get PDF
Background: Subtrochanteric fractures are prevalent in young and old age groups and one of the most notorious to achieve a stable fixation which allows early union and mobilization. This was a retrospective study to analyse the outcomes of proximal femur nailing in subtrochanteric fractures and assess the functional outcome, radiological union and compare that with studies of other modalities. Methods: This was a retrospective study of 40 patients with sub trochanteric fractures classified by Sienshiemer classification and operated by proximal femoral nail implant. Clinical evaluation was done by Harris hip score. Results: The average union time in our study was 5.12 months lower than some of the union rates of series with other implants (AO blade plate 7.7%). The conducive environment provided by proximal femoral nail (PFN) allows early mobility, independence to the patient and lessens the complications due to the bed ridden state and decrease the time in returning to work. Conclusions: Our study suggests that PFN being and intramedullary implant gives stable fixation and early union as compared to extramedullary implants with less blood loss and less complications
