The electrical and structural properties of a nanocomposite material based on silver nanoparticles and graphene oxide were investigated. Using electron and atomic force microscopy it was shown that the nanoparticles formed predominantly have sizes from 60 to 100 nm. Measurements of the current-voltage characteristics showed electrical conductivity values significantly exceeding the parameters of the initial graphene oxide. The prepared nanocomposites were used for scanning by electron microscopy (SEM) of blood samples of sick children with hematuria syndrome and patients of the radiological department of an oncologic dispensary diagnosed with cervical cancer. The formation of nanosize objects on the surface of erythrocytes is revealed. The size of these volumes is comparable to the size of the viruses. Results of these studies can indirectly confirm an assumption of authors about possible transportation of viruses by erythrocytes to various organs and viral etiology of renal diseases with the hematuria syndrome and cervical cancer. Keywords: graphene, graphene oxide, silver nanoparticles, structural and electrical properties, nephropathy, diagnostics

Formation of Hydroxyapatite Coating by Mechanical Alloying Method

    Get PDF
Hydroxyapatite [Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 − HA] material has been clinically applied in many areas of dentistry and orthopaedics. Presented work describes the effect of mechanical alloying treatment, as a non-conventional solid-state process, on the microstructure of hydroxylapatite powder and Ti-alloy substrate. The relationship between the crystallinity, crystallite size and strain of the HA with milling factors was investigated. Milled HA powders and Ti-substrate were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and/or scanning probe microscope (SPM) using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Increasing the ratio of the weight of the ball to the powder (Wb:Wp) ratio and milling time accelerates the broadening and intensity reduction of XRD peaks. There was no evidence that milling time up to 2 hrs or Wb:Wp can change chemical composition of the HA. Decomposition of HA phase or secondary phases such as α and/or β-tri-calcium phosphate (α, β − TCP), and calcium oxide (CaO) was not observed throughout the milling process. The average grain size and the internal strain are calculated from the XRD by Scherrer's formula and Hall–Williamson method. The Ti doped HA samples shows a notable broadening and intensity reduction comparing with HA powders before and after milling

Optical switching between long-lived states of opsin transmembrane voltage sensors

    Get PDF
Opsin-based transmembrane voltage sensors (OTVSs) are membrane proteins increasingly used in optogenetic applications to measure voltage changes across cellular membranes. In order to better understand the photophysical properties of OTVSs, we used a combination of UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence and FT-Raman spectroscopy to characterize QuasAr2 and NovArch, two closely related mutants derived from the proton pump archaerhodopsin-3 (AR3). We find both QuasAr2 and NovArch can be optically cycled repeatedly between O-like and M-like states using 5-min exposure to red (660 nm) and near-UV (405 nm) light. Longer red-light exposure resulted in the formation of a long-lived photoproduct similar to pink membrane, previously found to be a photoproduct of the BR O intermediate with a 9-cis retinylidene chromophore configuration. However, unlike QuasAr2 whose O-like state is stable in the dark, NovArch exhibits an O-like state which slowly partially decays in the dark to a stable M-like form with a deprotonated Schiff base and a 13-cis,15-anti retinylidene chromophore configuration. These results reveal a previously unknown complexity in the photochemistry of OTVSs including the ability to optically switch between different long-lived states. The possible molecular basis of these newly discovered properties along with potential optogenetic and biotechnological applications are discussed.Solid state NMR/Biophysical Organic Chemistr

The article is devoted to the search for effective ways of formation of speech competence of students in learning foreign languages. The article describes the experimental study of the "Techno-R" technique  developed at the Kazan Federal University in the field of teaching foreign languages. The article discusses the thematic and procedural structure of the technology, outlines its scientific justification. The authors describe the contents and the course of the experiment in detail on the example of teaching speaking as a type of speech activity in French on the topic "self-portrait", which clearly shows how to implement the generalized approach to the educational tasks at this stage an indicative basis of speech acts, which subsequently leads to the transfer of skills to the new speech conditions. The experiment was carried out with two sections of speaking both before and after the application of technology "Techno-R". To determine the reliability obtained in the experiment results the method of mathematical statistics "T-student's criterion" was used. The calculation was carried out according to the established parameters  of comparison of results before and after experiential learning. The parameters were expressed in digital assessment of the quality of foreign speech (oral statements). Counting on the "T-criterion of student's" demonstrated the value of t>2, namely t=5,973, which indicates the validity of the experimentally obtained data and efficiency of technology "Techno-R" in the field of teaching speaking in a foreign language

Experience with the triple fixed combination in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most important problems of modern medicine associated with a high mortality rate, high costs of treatment and relief of exacerbations of COPD. The main objectives of COPD treatment are symptom control, reduce the frequency of exacerbations and hospitalizations, and reduced risk of exacerbation in the future. The recommendations of the GOLD initiative propose a treatment approach based on the assessment of exacerbation rates external respiratory function indicators (spirometric classification of GOLD), the severity of symptoms assessed on the CAT test and mMRC. When choosing therapy, the physician must first of all take into account the effectiveness, safety of the drug, adherence to treatment in order to achieve the therapeutic goals of treating patients with COPD. The change in therapeutic approaches in COPD treatment is associated with the accumulation of knowledge in physiology, clinical pharmacology, and the isolation of new clinical phenotypes of COPD. Currently, the main classes of drugs for the treatment of COPD are long-acting beta-agonists (LABA), longacting anticholinergics (LAMA), and inhaled glucocorticosteroids (ICS). The evolution of therapeutic approaches in COPD treatment has led to the creation of new fixed inhalation combinations of the main groups of drugs for COPD treatment. The therapeutic strategies recommended by GOLD and the Russian Federal Guidelines determine the long-term goals of COPD treatment – the impact on the risk of exacerbations in the future. The presented clinical observation of a patient with severe COPD demonstrates the effectiveness of a triple fixed combination vilanterol/umeclidinium/fluticasone furoate 55/22/92 μg as a basic therapy. The  chosen treatment strategy not only reduces the  severity of  the  symptoms of  the  disease, but also reduces the  risk of exacerbations in the future
