    CORRECTIVE FEEDBACK IN WRITING CLASS

    Abstract: The students will study more effectively when they know what they are doing in their writing subject. They expect feedback about the score they have gained they have received, for their achievement, and suggestions for how they can improve their language. Teachers are often suggested giving learners the opportunity to self-correct or invite other students to correct their work. However, a number of problems with learner self-correction will arise such as learners typically prefer the teacher doing/correcting their works or students can only correct their own works is they have the necessary linguistic knowledge. Therefore, we have clear grounds to motivate self-correction. The teachers can offer another alternative that is peer-correction, when that fails.The presentation will start discussing about the concepts of assessment including oral and written corrective feedback.     SEMANTIC CHANGES IN TRANSLATION OF EUPHEMISM AND DYSPHEMISM IN TEMPO MAGAZINE

    This research aims at identifying the semantic changes in the translation of euphemism and dysphemism of news text of Tempo Magazine. This research used a descriptive qualitative method and took the data from bilingual Tempo Magazine edition 2019 with Indonesian in a source language and its translation into English. The result shows that 6 types of semantic change occur in the translation of euphemism and dysphemism of Tempo Magazines such as semantic broadening, semantic narrowing, semantic metaphor, semantic pejoration, semantic amelioration, and semantic metonymy. When euphemism or dysphemism are translated into the same categories, they undergo semantic broadening, narrowing, metonymy or metaphor. While semantic change pejorations occur when euphemism is translated into dysphemism and semantic change ameliorations occur when dysphemism is translated into euphemism. Even though there are changing of the meaning from the earlier one to the new one in the translation of euphemism and dysphemism, the sense relation still tied the words up so they still have a relation between the

    IDENTIFYING THE TYPES OF ACCOUNTING TERMS IN ENGLISH ACCOUNTING BOOK AND THEIR EQUIVALENCES IN INDONESIAN

    Translation has important role to the development of science field, especially in accounting field which has been expanding in this globalization era. Hence, it is very interesting to analyze the translation of English accounting terms into Indonesian because it contains many accounting typical terms and specific vocabulary usually used by accountant. Furthermore, this research focuses on identifying of accounting terms in English accounting book and their equivalences in Indonesian. The data was collected by note taking and comparing techniques. Then, the data analysis is performed to search the form and category of the English accounting terms. Parallel corpora were used in presenting source language and target language data. Descriptive qualitative methods were applied to analyze all research problems. The theory of translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) was applied in order to find translation techniques chosen by translator in translating English accounting terms and the theory of grammatical proposed by Quirk et al (1985) to find the categories of word, compound word and phrase. This research is expected to contribute to further research related to accounting vocabularies consist of a set of words, compound words and phrase which are considered available in all languages of the world

    Racism towards Black American: Intersectionality in Constructing Social Racist through Poetical Depiction by Langston Hughes and Amy Saunders

    In this research, the development of racism based on the different formations of socio-cultural and historical aspects was the standpoint that was shown by the interpretation of poetical depiction of meaning and messages. The gap between Langston Hughes in “I, too, sing America” (1926) and Amy Saunders in “You’re not Black” (2019) as the data advocates for racist transformation in natural past and present American socialization. Several critical studies have examined the racial issues reflected in poems however they didn’t elaborate on racism specifically rather than segregation and discrimination although racism is classified in several types. Moreover, the critical studies have been done only analyzed the racism happened on the past while this study compares the past and present racism as the concern of social construction among black American as the target of unfair treatments. The descriptive qualitative method using documentation, descriptive analysis, and note-taking technique was used to identify and elaborate meaning correlation with racial issues in the poems. This research aimed to classify the figurative language and its meaning related to racism while illustrating the development of racism from the perspective of socio-cultural and historical aspects that influenced the poets and their poetry. Theory of Critical Race was used to demonstrate that racism was developing in a different formation. The research has found the interconnection between historical values of slavery system constructed stereotypes of black people as minor American.     Black Panther: A Characterization Study of Erik Killmonger’s Machiavellianism

    The study discusses and analyzes the characterization of a secondary character in the movie Black Panther, Erik Killmonger whose status as a villain described as a Machiavellian; a person known to be gruesome and unreliable to acquire everything he desires by any means necessary. The study functions as a source of knowledge for everyone who wishes to comprehend the deeper issue of a secondary character existence in a movie who does not get enough recognition, unlike the main character. This study used collecting and observing methods to acquire the data, Black Panther movie along with the movie script. A Qualitative research method is used to answer the problems of the study. It examined Killmonger’s characterization by using three theories; tridimensional aspects, Black Nationalism, and Machiavellianism. Discussion of Black History counts as a great necessity to give a clearer sense of the character’s background who described as an African-American male. Lastly, a descriptive method to analyze the problems and present the analysis is chosen to complete this study. The results of this study found innovative discussions on a Machiavellian character on the parameters of self-determination, nationalism, and racial prejudice. Killmonger’s Machiavellian character is categorized to have “cold” emotionality, lack of empathy, and manipulative. The study results also delivered fundamental truths about the current political and cultural situation in the United States, in which people still seek persistence in their everyday lives based on racial boundaries reflected by Killmonger’s mission as an African-American

    Penelitian ini membahas penerjemahan repetisi leksikal dengan mengacu pada novel The Old Man and the Sea karya Ernest Hemingway dan dua versi terjemahannya dalam bahasa Indonesia. Pengkajian dilakukan terhadap cara yang digunakan oleh masing-masing penerjemah novel tersebut, Sapardi Djoko Damono dan Yuni Kristianingsih Pramudhaningrat, untuk menangani repetisi leksikal dalam teks sumber, serta pergeseran terjemahan yang ditimbulkannya. Dalam kajian ini terungkap bahwa kedua penerjemah telah mereduksi gaya bahasa repetisi Hemingway. Reduksi menyebabkan kedua teks terjemahan mengalami pergeseran yang substansial dari teks orisinal, baik secara sintaktis maupun semantis

    This writing aims at investigating language attitude of Balinese young generation toward Balinesse, their mother tongue in tourist destination.   Qualitative approach is applied in this research. The data were in the form of spoken data, written data, and researcher’s language instuition. Through participative observation the data were collected from young generation at tourist destination such as Kuta, Sanur and Ubud by using questionnaire and observation sheet. The respondents were given 10 items of questions related to cognitive, affective, and behavioral (connative) aspects. Data collected were then analyzed by the theory of language attitude.     Lexical Hedges in Reflecting Gender Differences

    The study discusses lexical hedges in reflecting gender differences through the movie and analyzes the features of lexical hedges used in Sierra Burgess Is a Loser movie. The data were processed by categorizing the data into components of lexical hedges based on the framework of hedges proposed by Namasaraev (1997) and the sequential positions of lexical hedges proposed by Rosanti&Jaelani (2016). The use of nine types of lexical hedges conforming to its classification by the male and female characters showed a different number of results. As a result, female characters tend to more used lexical hedges rather than men characters. The female characters were mostly used lexical hedges as fillers yeah in their utterance to show their feelings, emotion, or opinion in the movie. The total data showed the number of female characters in using lexical hedges was 92 words sequentially from the most commonly used, i.e. fillers, lexical verbs, modal auxiliary verbs, adverb of frequency, adverb, and noun. Meanwhile, male characters used 40 words of lexical hedges and fillers as the most commonly used hedges through the word; like. In this movie, there were two sequential positions of lexical hedges, namely; the initial and medial position. Besides that, the female characters had a wide range of types in uttering the words that contained lexical hedges, whereas the male characters were not too often in selecting the words of lexical hedges. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai penggambaran lexical hedges dalam perbedaan gender melalu isebuah film, serta untuk menganalisis fitur lexical hedges yang digunakan dalam film Sierra Burgess Is a Loser. Data sudah diproses dengan mengkategorikan data menjadi komponen lexical hedges berdasarkan kerangka hedges yang disusun oleh Namasaraev (1997) dan posisi sekuensial lexical hedges yang diusulkan oleh Rosanti & Jaelani (2016). Penggunaan dari sembilan tipe lexical hedges berdasarkan klasifikasi oleh karakter pria dan wanita menampilkan hasil yang berbeda. Hasilnya, karakter wanita cenderung menggunakan lexical hedges dibandingkan dengan karakter pria. Karakter wanita paling sering menggunakan fitur lexical hedges sebagai fillers yaitu; yeah dalam ucapan mereka untuk menunjukkan perasaan, emosi, dan opini di dalam film. Total data menunjukkan penggunaan lexical hedges oleh karakter wanita berjumlah 92 kata yang secara beruratan dari yang paling sering digunakan yakni fillers, lexical verbs, modal auxiliary verbs, adverb of frequency, adverb, dan noun. Sedangkan, karakter pria menggunakan 40 kata lexical hedges dan fillers like sebagai fitur hedges yang paling sering digunakan. Di dalam film ini, terdapat dua posisi sekuensial dari lexical hedges yakni posisi awal dan posisi tengah. Disamping itu, karakter wanita memiliki jangkauan yang luas mengenai tipe-tipe dalam penyampaian kata yang mengandung fitur lexical hedges, sedangkan karakter pria tidak terlalu sering menggunakan kata lexical hedges didalam pemilihan kat

    The Analysis of Code Switching Found in The Twitter Account @natanattda

    The phenomenon of code-switching occurs in everyday life as speech or text on social media. One example is found in Twitter, a social media platform that has received a lot of attention in recent years. This study aimed to determine (1) what types of code-switching are used and (2) why code-switching is used on Twitter accounts @natanattda. The research was carried out using qualitative methods. Reading and searching for tweets from the @natanattda account is a method of collecting data in this study. The theory applied when conducting this study was proposed by Poplack in Romaine (1995) about analyze the different types of code-switching. Another theory was proposed by Hoffman (1991) about the reasons for using code-switching. In this study, two points were discovered through data analysis. The first point was about the various types of code-switching, including Tag switching, Inter-sentential switching, and Intra-sentential switching. The second point was about the reasons for using code-switching. The most dominant type of code-switching found in the data is Inter-sentential switching. From the seven reasons for using the code-switching theory proposed by Hoffman (1991), only two reasons found from this account's tweets include talking about a particular topic and being emphatic about something (expressing solidarity). The most dominant reason for using code-switching found in the data is talking about a particular topic.   &nbsp
