Physico-electrochemical Characterization of Pluripotent Stem Cells during Self-Renewal or Differentiation by a Multi-modal Monitoring System.
Monitoring pluripotent stem cell behaviors (self-renewal and differentiation to specific lineages/phenotypes) is critical for a fundamental understanding of stem cell biology and their translational applications. In this study, a multi-modal stem cell monitoring system was developed to quantitatively characterize physico-electrochemical changes of the cells in real time, in relation to cellular activities during self-renewal or lineage-specific differentiation, in a non-destructive, label-free manner. The system was validated by measuring physical (mass) and electrochemical (impedance) changes in human induced pluripotent stem cells undergoing self-renewal, or subjected to mesendodermal or ectodermal differentiation, and correlating them to morphological (size, shape) and biochemical changes (gene/protein expression). An equivalent circuit model was used to further dissect the electrochemical (resistive and capacitive) contributions of distinctive cellular features. Overall, the combination of the physico-electrochemical measurements and electrical circuit modeling collectively offers a means to longitudinally quantify the states of stem cell self-renewal and differentiation
This report describes and compares perceptions of teachers participating on
in-service training activities in Andalucia with regard to professional
anxiety. 20 main hypothesis were contrasted involving 89 subhypothesis. The
teachers don't distinguish between them for contextual depth variables or
demographic condition. The differences found among teachers were through
factor which refer to formative activities: participant motivation, acquired
knowledges, content of courses, quality of formative activities, and measurement
of the efficacy of courses
The role of melatonin in autoimmune and atopic diseases
Melatonin is the main secretory product synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland during
the night. Melatonin is a pleitropic molecule with a wide distribution within phylogenetically distant
organisms and has a great functional versatility, including the regulation of circadian and seasonal
rhythms and antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It also possesses the capacity to modulate
immune responses by regulation of the TH1/TH2 balance and cytokine production. Immune system
eradicates infecting organisms without serious injury to host tissues, but sometimes these responses
are inadequately controlled, giving rise to called hypersensitivity diseases, or inappropriately targeted
to host tissues, causing the autoimmune diseases. In clinical medicine, the hypersensitivity diseases
include the allergic or atopic diseases and the hallmarks of these diseases are the activation of TH2
cells and the production of IgE antibody. Regarding autoimmunity, at the present time we know that
the key events in the development of autoimmunity are a failure or breakdown of the mechanisms
normally responsible for maintaining self-tolerance in B lymphocytes, T lymphocytes, or both, the
recognition of self-antigens by autoreactive lymphocytes, the activation of these cells to proliferate
and differentiate into effector cells, and the tissue injury caused by the effector cells and their products.
Melatonin treatment has been investigated in atopic diseases, in several animal models of autoimmune
diseases, and has been also evaluated in clinical autoimmune diseases. This review summarizes the
role of melatonin in atopic diseases (atopic dermatitis and asthma) and in several autoimmune diseases,
such as arthritis rheumatoid, multiple sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, type 1 diabetes mellitus,
and inflammatory bowel diseases.
Does the Integration of Lean Production and Industry 4.0 in Green Supply Chains Generate a Better Operational Performance?
Purpose – The tightening of environmental measures and policies in various countries around the world is forcing manufacturing companies, particularly those that make up the automotive industry, to improve their production processes, through the implementation of approaches such as lean production and industry 4.0 technologies, to reduce industrial waste. However, the literature indicates that the implementation of lean production and Industry 4.0 does not always lead to an improvement in the level of operational performance. Therefore, this study analyzes the effects of the implementation of lean production practices and Industry 4.0 on a green supply chain and the operational performance of manufacturing companies in the Mexican automotive industry.
Methodology/design/approach - A theoretical research framework consisting of six hypotheses was developed and validated by applying PLS-SEM and using a sample of 460 companies from the Mexican automotive industry.
Findings - The results show that the level of operational performance of manufacturing companies increases substantially with the implementation of lean production and industry 4.0 practices, as well as a green supply chain.
Originality/value - This study contributes to the literature on lean production and Industry 4.0 by providing robust empirical evidence of the positive effects of implementing these approaches on the green supply chain and operational performance of manufacturing companies.
Practical implications - Managers of manufacturing companies will be able to use the results of this study to improve their production systems and to demonstrate the effects of these practices on operational performance
