Background: It is essential to intervene pregnancy for safety of mother, fetus or both. Successful labor induction is clearly related to the state of the cervix. Women with an unfavorable cervix who have not experienced cervical ripening phase before labor present the greatest challenge with regard to labor induction. Therefore, it is necessary to use optimal technique for cervical ripening and safe confinement. One of the common methods includes use of PGE2 gel for cervical ripening. The rationale of this study is to compare the safety and efficacy of Iso-sorbide mononitrate as pre-induction cervical ripening with PGE2 gel induction. Methods: After attaining ethics approval [PSG IHEC], a prospective randomised, case-controlled study was conducted on 182 women undergoing elective induction of labour. They were allocated to either Study or Control group by computer generated random number table method. ISMN was used vaginally prior to labour induction in the study group whereas PGE2 gel induction was used in the control group. Change in bishop score and Induction to delivery interval was assessed in both the groups. Results: There was a significant reduction in induction to delivery interval in the study group (ISMN) 15.2 hours when compared to 23.2 hours in the control group (PGE2 gel) with p=0.000. Need for augmentation of labour was reduced in the study group significantly with p=0.003. Cost of induction was less when compared to the control group. ISMN had less side effects hence can be used as OP basis. Conclusions: Vaginal Isosorbide mononitrate when used as a cervical ripening agent significantly reduces induction to delivery interval. Use of Isosorbide mononitrate was associated with very less side effects and it is a cost-effective drug. Thus, ISMN can be used safely and effectively in term patients for pre-induction cervical ripening when compared to PGE2 gel

Micromagnetic Simulation of Spin Transfer Torque Switching of Full-Heusler Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5 Alloy Thin Elliptical Disc

AbstractWe report micromagnetic simulation of spin transfer torque (STT) switching of a thin elliptical disc made of full-Heusler Co2FeAl0.5Si0.5 alloy. The STT results in switching the direction of initial magnetization of the disc to a new state based on the spin-polarization factor (ƞ) of the material and magnitude of current density (J) applied. The value of J required for magnetization switching need to be reduced in the order of 106 A/cm2. In our simulation we obtained 3 × 105 A/cm2 as the critical current density (Jc) required for complete magnetization switching of the disc. We analyzed the effect of ƞ on magnetization switching time by reducing the value of ƞ by 0.10 from the actual value of 0.76. The decrement in ƞ results in the increment of time taken to switch the direction of magnetization. The change in switching time for variable disc thickness was also studied. This simulation result holds a key factor in the study of STT switching in spin-valve nanopillar

Profitability of Cotton on a Pest Management Continuum in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh

    Get PDF
The plant protection response of farmers in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh has been examined with particular reference to the adoption of Bt cotton varieties and IPM components. The farmers have been found to follow a wide range of practices to manage the insect pests in cotton. The use of chemical insecticides has accounted for, about 37 per cent of the total variable costs. No significant reduction in plant protection expenditure has been recorded on adoption of Bt varieties without IPM practices. The adoption of IPM practices, however, has led to reduced use of insecticides and increased profitability. The saving on plant protection chemicals has more than compensated the cost of adopting IPM components. Consequently, the net returns have been found increased considerably from cotton cultivation.Crop Production/Industries,

Analysis of system capacity and spectral efficiency of fixed-grid network

In this article, the performance of a fixed grid network is examined for various modulation formats to estimate the system's capacity and spectral efficiency. The optical In-phase Quadrature Modulator structure is used to build a fixed grid network modulation, and the homodyne detection approach is used for the receiver. Data multiplexing is accomplished using the Polarization Division Multiplexed technology. 100 Gbps, 150 Gbps, and 200 Gbps data rates are transmitted under these circumstances utilizing various modulation formats. Various pre-processing and signal recovery steps are explained by using modern digital signal processing systems. The achieved spectrum efficiencies for PM-QPSK, PM-8 QAM, and PM-16 QAM, respectively, were 2, 3, and 4 bits/s/Hz. Different modulation like PM-QPSK, PM-8-QAM, and PM-16-QAM each has system capacities of 8-9, 12-13.5, and 16-18 Tbps and it reaches transmission distances of 3000, 1300, and 700 kilometers with acceptable Bit Error Rate less than equal to 2*10-3 respectively. Peak optical power for received signal detection and full width at half maximum is noted for the different modulations under a fixed grind network

Heat Transfer Analysis of Lance Skulling in Top Blown Oxygen Steelmaking converters

    Get PDF
The lance used for blowing oxygen in top blown oxygen steelmaking converters (BOF) is water-cooled. Deposition of metal on the lance surface results in an increase in the diameter and mass of the lance. If the deposition (skulling) is excessive, it may cause severe operational difficulties in taking out the lance from the vessel after the blow is over. The temperature difference of inlet and exit cooling water circulating inside the lance is a direct measure of the condition of the lance. An iterative calculation procedure using a computer program has been developed, for the case of a lance used in a 100T vessel, to study the effect of solidification of molten metal (skulling) on the lance body on the exit water temperatures. For the first time, the effect of radiation from hot spots has been taken into account and it turns out to be the most significant factor in heat transfer

A novel, precise and accurate stability indicating RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for the simultaneous estimation of Metformin and Glipizide in combined pharmaceutical dosage form. Chromatographic separation was achieved on Microsorb-MV C18 column (250 × 4.6 mm, 5 μm) with UV detection at 257 nm. The mobile phase consists of acetate buffer (pH 4.0) and acetonitrile in the ratio of 60:40 v/v and at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The method was linear over the concentration range of 60-140 μg/mL for Metformin and 10-50 μg/mL for Glipizide. The retention times for Metformin and Glipizide were found to be 2.434 min and 5.710 min respectively. The mean percentage recoveries of Metformin and Glipizide were found to be 100.42% and 100.39% respectively. The method was validated and was successfully employed for the routine quantitative analysis of pharmaceutical formulations containing Metformin and Glipizide in combined pharmaceutical formulation

    Get PDF
This paper deals with computing eigenvalues of periodic Sturm-Liouville (SL) problem by direct integration (DI) method using shooting technique without reducing to the system of first order ODEs. Floquet theory is applied to find a non-trivial solution of SL problems and the eigenvalues are approximated by the application of shooting techniques. Computational advantages are presented comparing the results obtained by the DI method with that of reducing to the system of first order ODEs
