    Get PDF
Purpose: The main aim of this article is to use statistical methods for the estimation of the economic burden and the survival rate of deeply premature babies. Design/Methodology/Approach: The results of a survey of 2.222 children with a birth weight of 501-1500 grams and a gestational age of 23-37 weeks were used as input data. Cox’s proportional hazards model was used as a survival tool. Findings: The results of Cox survival regression model showed a series of statistically significant predictors of survivability (p<0.05) for three age cohorts: neonatal, postnatal and pediatric (until 2 years). One of the statistically significantly predictors of survivability of premature infants with very low birth weight (VLBW) and extremely low birth weight (ELBW) in every age cohort is the volume of primary resuscitation measure and the length of stay in the neonatal pathology unit (NPU). Practical Implications: The results permitted to assess the amount of nursing care measures, the duration of care in a neonatal pathology unit, the rehabilitation of children with VLBW and ELBW in the long run. The assessment will ultimately help to estimate the overall economic burden associated with maintaining health and quality of life of premature babies. Originality/Value: The scientific contribution of the study consists in the use of an integrated approach to the problem of estimating the economic burden of nursing very premature babies, taking into account their survival and subsequent disability risks in the neonatal, postnatal, and pediatric periods.peer-reviewe

Spontaneous decay of excited atomic states near a carbon nanotube

Spontaneous decay process of an excited atom placed inside or outside (near the surface) a carbon nanotube is analyzed. Calculations have been performed for various achiral nanotubes. The effect of the nanotube surface has been demonstrated to dramatically increase the atomic spontaneous decay rate -- by 6 to 7 orders of magnitude compared with that of the same atom in vacuum. Such an increase is associated with the nonradiative decay via surface excitations in the nanotube.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

SIMULACRUM IN STATIC-DYNAMIC SCOPE OF THE SCREEN (a case study of polycode-multimodal texts of the Internet)

    Get PDF
With onset of the computer and electronic revolution, with the expansion of the Internet the modern world culture is based not on the bookish, but on the screen form of the text existence. Heterogeneous texts have replace homogeneous texts. The most formed representatives of which are the movies and the television, that initiated the appearance of text with the unique structure, contaminating oral and written linguistic sense medium with the non-linguistic and which, having been digitized, are predominating in the Internet today. The spectator expects from these texts such stylistic features as authenticity and factual accuracy. These particular expectations are employed by the authors of such videos in order to manipulate the viewer and to create the impression, that the objects and phenomena on the screen possess the denotation in the real world, thus making the recipient believe into the modelled pattern of a real life and generating simulacra. This article is devoted to the analysis of peculiarities of the simulacra design in polycode-multimodal texts representing complex semiotic unity of verbal, iconic and acoustic components. Also it is examined how a real-life simulation is created in the case of three polycode-multimodal texts that describe the military actions in Syria. The analysis is carried out in the static and dynamic scope of the screen% at the visual (screenshots), verbal and acoustic levels. During the research lingual-semiotic peculiarities of the simulacra generation in the static scope of the screen are singled out and the instruments used to construct simulacra in the dynamic scope of the screen

Molecular-dynamics simulation of the Ξ±-Ti plastic deformation under conditions of high-energy effects

    Get PDF
Modeling of high-speed deformation of Ξ±-Ti at a pressure of 20 GPa and a temperature of 700 K simulating the conditions of high-energy effects is carried out. The mechanisms of plastic deformation, including sliding along prismatic planes and the Ξ±-Ο‰ transition, are established. A feature of the deformation process of titanium in the considered conditions, which leads to the formation of disperse inclusions of the Ξ±-phase in the Ο‰-phase matrix, is reveale

Influence of nanotube length and density on the plasmonic terahertz response of single-walled carbon nanotubes

    Get PDF
We measure the conductivity spectra of thin films comprising bundled single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) of different average lengths in the frequency range 0.3-1000 THz and temperature interval 10-530 K. The observed temperature-induced changes in the terahertz conductivity spectra are shown to depend strongly on the average CNT length, with a conductivity around 1 THz that increases/decreases as the temperature increases for short/long tubes. This behaviour originates from the temperature dependence of the electron scattering rate, which we obtain from Drude fits of the measured conductivity in the range 0.3-2 THz for 10 ΞΌ\mum length CNTs. This increasing scattering rate with temperature results in a subsequent broadening of the observed THz conductivity peak at higher temperatures and a shift to lower frequencies for increasing CNT length. Finally, we show that the change in conductivity with temperature depends not only on tube length, but also varies with tube density. We record the effective conductivities of composite films comprising mixtures of WS2_2 nanotubes and CNTs vs CNT density for frequencies in the range 0.3-1 THz, finding that the conductivity increases/decreases for low/high density films as the temperature increases. This effect arises due to the density dependence of the effective length of conducting pathways in the composite films, which again leads to a shift and temperature dependent broadening of the THz conductivity peak.Comment: Submitted to Journal of Physics D. Get PDF
For the first time, the complexation of pentacyclic triterpenes of licorice (glycyrrhizic acid (GA) and its aglycone, glycyrrhetinic acid (GLA)) with the novel Russian antiviral drug Camphecene (Camph) was investigated. The complexes obtained at different molar ratios were studied using both UV/Vis spectroscopy and mass spectrometry (ESI MS). Formation of the host:guest complexes were registered: GA and GLA molecular complexes (Camph+2GA; Camph+2GLA) with stability constants К = 6.94 106 М-2 and К = 2.89 106 М-2, respectively. The research results demonstrate a considerable potential of ESI MS as a technique for simple and fast detection of formation of the complexes of GA /GLA and the novel drugs

Received: 19.05.2021. Revised: 21.09.2021. Accepted: 08.11.2021. Available online: 09.11.2021.The total phenol content and the anti-acetylcholinesterase activity were compared in olive leaf (OL) extracts obtained using both subcritical water extraction (SbWE) and conventional solvent extraction (ethanol-water). The method proposed by Ellman (in vitro) was used to study the inhibitory activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE). The total content of phenolic compounds and AChE activities of OL extracts varied depending on the used extraction method. Thus, the extract obtained using the subcritical water technique (220 Β°C) showed the highest amounts of total phenolic components, expressed as gallic acid equivalents, (70.4 mg/g raw material) and the highest inhibitory AChE-activity (IC50 = 0.35 mg/ml). The obtained values of the anti-AChE activity of the extracts of OL demonstrated that the inhibitory activity for SbW-extract 120 Β°C (IC50 = 2.92 mg/ml) and SbWextract 180 Β°C (IC50 = 0.8 mg/ml) is higher than that of the traditional extract (IC50 = 3.6 mg/ml), respectively. These results indicate a great potential of the subcritical water technique to develop the techniques to produce commercial extracts of OL, and these results could encourage improved utilization of the OL. The collected data on the anti - acetylcholinesterase activity of olive leaves clearly demonstrate the prospects for use of OL extracts in the development of novel pharmaceutical substances and nutraceuticals for the prevention and/or the treatment of Alzheimer's disease as well as some other neurodegenerative diseases. This work was supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation (State assignment in the field of scientific activity, project No 0852-2020-0031) and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR, grant no. 19-33-90211-Aspiranty (S.
