Based on my ethnography with the Jarawara, an Arawá speaking people of the Middle Purus river, the article aims to think about the girls’ end of reclusion party, the mariná, and its effects on the composition of a “takeable” agent. The idea developed here is that the “somnolence” (nokobisa), the “tiredness” (mama) and the “beauty” (amosa) are forms of ritual actions that aim to draw out of the women’s bodies their capacities of “being takeable” (towakama), of “being carriable” (weyena). Those qualities would also be associated with the shamans, that after consuming rapé (a tobacco based powder) are carried on the back of their plant-children and experience relations with a variety of beings in the neme (the “upper layer”)-beings which they meet in their dreams as well. I will try to think how a certain notion of jarawara women agency may be linked to the oneiric activity and to the shaman’s knowledge. © 2017, Universidade Estadual de Campinas UNICAMP. The welding of cemented carbide to tool steel is a challenging task, of scientific and industrial relevance, as it combines the high level of hardness of cemented carbide with the high level of fracture toughness of steel, while reducing the shaping cost and extending the application versatility, as its tribological, toughness, thermal and chemical properties can be optimally harmonised. The already existing joining technologies often impart either insufficient toughness or poor high-temperature strength to a joint to withstand the ever-increasing severe service condition demands. In this paper, a novel capacitor discharge welding (CDW) process is investigated for the case of a butt-joint between a tungsten carbide-cobalt (WC-Co) composite rod and an AISI M35 high-speed steel (HSS) rod. The latter was shaped with a conical-ended projection to promote a high current concentration and heat at the welding zone. CDW functions by combining a direct current (DC) electric current pulse and external uniaxial pressure after a preloading step, in which only uniaxial pressure is applied. The relatively high heating and cooling rates promote a thin layer of a characteristic ultrafine microstructure that combines high strength and toughness. Morphological analysis showed that the CDW process: (a) forms a sound and net shaped joint, (b) preserves the sub-micrometric grain structure of the original WC-Co composite base materials, via a transitional layer, (c) refines the microstructure of the original martensite of the HSS base material, and (d) results in an improved corrosion resistance across a 1-mm thick layer near the weld interface on the steel side. A nano-indentation test survey determined: (e) no hardness deterioration on the HSS side of the weld zone, although (f) a slight decrease in hardness was observed across the transitional layer on the composite side. Furthermore, (g) an indication of toughness of the joint was perceived as the size of the crack induced by processing the residual stress after sample preparation was unaltered

Determination of the yield radius and yield stress in 2198-T3 aluminum alloy by means of the dual-scale instrumented indentation test

A new dual-scale instrumented indentation test (DualS-IIT) methodology is here proposed to determine the yield stress (in a tensile-like sense). The methodology involves measuring the bulk yield radius, as defined by the expansion cavity model (ECM), induced by a Vickers macro-indentation in a medium plane cross-section. The bulk yield radius is measured by means of a subsurface nano-hardness survey along the load direction in correspondence to the transition interface between the hemispherical strain hardened region and the surrounding elastic region. The methodology has been applied to an Al–Li (A2198-T3) alloy and a yield stress of 297 MPa has been measured (in agreement with a tensile test); moreover, anomalous plastic deformation behaviour has appeared under indentation. The combination of macro- and nano-indentation tests in one single experiment, as in the proposed methodology, offers a unique experimental basis to directly correlate the mechanical properties of a material at two different scales, which at present is an open issue in the research on indentation

The purpose of this research is to provide guidelines for wine tourism destinations, to produce an effective web communication activity. To achieve the aim: - the text regarding the topic “wine tourism” was extracted from the new generation social networks (Instagram e Pinterest) and the wine tourism destinations’ websites, and it was then analysed using text mining techniques; - the uploaded images founded on the aforesaid social networks and websites were analysed with a quali-quantitative approach; - the communication structure of the wine tourism destinations’ websites was studied. In this way, some behavioral models potentially repeatable were defined, with the aim to design and implement a website for a wine tourism destination and the related web marketing strategie

DIAGNOSING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF SMES ON INTERNATIONAL MARKETS: CONCEPTION AND TESTING OF AN INNOVATIVE SOFTWARE

    No full text
A firm’s ability to enter a foreign market entails the activation of a screening process that starts with the selection of those markets held to be interesting in that they are compatible with the specific features of the product on offer, the characteristics of the firm and the expectations of its management. Starting from this assumption, the study aims to identify a suitable method for analysing foreign markets and establish criteria for monitoring firms’ internal skills (with the aid of a software application created ad hoc), in order to adopt a suitable internationalisation strategy that also makes use of the internet. The field of inquiry chosen for the application of the proposed method – wine tourism, see the box below – derives from specific research interests (which are connected to projects currently in progress). However, it also reflects current market trends, especially the growth of “destination Puglia” – a region with a long tradition of winemaking, now characterised by a strong shift towards higher quality – as an ideal location for wine tourists. This is confirmed by the American magazine Wine Enthusiast, whose list of the “Ten best wine travel destinations” for 2013 includes only one Italian region: Puglia

Sustainability disclosure through virtual community: the case of the wine sector

    No full text
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to observe how the motivational engagement system of the consumers should be established so that communities of practice became a driver to reducing the informative asymmetries of sustainability. Design/methodology/approach: The paper proposes a conceptual framework called connection, discussion and influence (CDI), along which the motivational dimensions to disclose sustainability can be formed. The framework has been tested on 200 firms in the Italian wine industry. A correlation analysis proved to be suitable for identifying groups of representative variables representing the engagement motivations that characterize participation in sustainability-oriented virtual communities. Findings: The findings of this paper suggest that the pro-social behavior represented by the exchange of knowledge oriented toward sustainability is enhanced by the engagement of online community members. This happens when the online community is structured so as to activate a virtuous circle between CDI. Research limitations/implications: The main limitation of this study is the interviewees do not actually participate in a virtual community, but have only been asked if they would be potentially interested in participating in one, and about the importance they give to specific motivations. Practical implications: The paper provides important reflections for companies operating in the wine industry that have been called to intervene in the disclosure of sustainability. Originality/value: The virtuous circle described here is the main contribution of the paper, as it can serve as a driver for managers of virtual communities that choose to disclose their idea of sustainability to reduce informative asymmetries and to engage consumers

WHAT WINE TOURISTS WANT? A NETNOGRAPHIC ANSWER

    No full text
The work aims at examining the online communication started by wine tourists on Web, in order to i) identify topics and subjects around which wine tourists mainly discuss and to ii) profile them, through a netnographic approach. The originality of the paper can be identified in the application of the research methods still less used in the touristic marketing studies, although through them it is possible to express interesting research hypothesis. Managerial involvements can be found in the possibility of using the results emerged from the analysis of the user generated contents (UGCs) so as to be able to (re)direct the communicational strategies, developing, at the same time, a targeted and personalized tourist offer

Multiphase Particle-in-Cell Simulation of Soot Deposition Inside a Diesel Particulate Filter Single Channel

    No full text
In the diesel particulate filters technology a key aspect is represented by the properties of the particulate matter that is collected inside their structure. The work presented is focused on the development of an innovative mathematical tool based on the particle-in-cell method (PIC) for the simulation of the soot distribution inside a single channel of a diesel particulate filter. The basic fluid dynamic equations are solved for the gas phase inside the channel using a novel technique based on the solution of the same set of equations everywhere in the system including the porous medium. This approach is presented as alternative to the more conventional methods of matching conditions across the boundary of the porous region where a Darcy-like flow is developed. The motion of the soot solid particles is instead described through a particle-by-particle approach based on Newton's equations of motion. The coupling between the dynamics of the gas and that of the soot particles, i.e. between these two sub-models, is performed through the implementation of the particle-in-cell technique. This model allows the detailed simulation of the deposition and compaction of the soot inside the filter channels and its characterization in terms of density, permeability and thickness. The model then represents a unique tool for the optimization of the design of diesel particulate filters. The details of the technique implementation and some paradigmatic examples will be shown

    Mercati globali e marketing internazionale
