Performance Analysis of Network-Assisted Two-Hop D2D Communications

Network-assisted single-hop device-to-device (D2D) communication can increase the spectral and energy efficiency of cellular networks by taking advantage of the proximity, reuse, and hop gains when radio resources are properly managed between the cellular and D2D layers. In this paper we argue that D2D technology can be used to further increase the spectral and energy efficiency if the key D2D radio resource management algorithms are suitably extended to support network assisted multi-hop D2D communications. Specifically, we propose a novel, distributed utility maximizing D2D power control (PC) scheme that is able to balance spectral and energy efficiency while taking into account mode selection and resource allocation constraints that are important in the integrated cellular-D2D environment. Our analysis and numerical results indicate that multi-hop D2D communications combined with the proposed PC scheme can be useful not only for harvesting the potential gains previously identified in the literature, but also for extending the coverage of cellular networks.Comment: 6 pages and 7 figure

Concentração de ferro anormalmente aumentada nos núcleos da base na síndrome de Shy-Drager

Report of an early case of Shy-Drager syndrome in a 67 year-old woman patient. Autonomic failure was diagnosed by functional evaluation as well as laboratory tests. MR imaging disclosed a prominent putamina hypodensity in T2-weighted images at high field strength due to iron increased depositing in this basal ganglia. MR imaging evidences confirm Shy-Drager syndrome diagnosis, and contributes for differential diagnosis of idiopathic hypotension (pure autonomic failure) in special in SDS early cases.É relatado o caso de unm paciente de 67 anos de idade com quadro inicial da síndrome de Shy-Drager. O diagnóstico foi possível por provas funcionais autonômicas e exames laboratoriais. A ressonância magnética cerebral (contraste baseado na densidade de prótons e em T2) objetivou proeminente hipodensidade putaminal em T2, secundária ao aumento do depósito do ferro nesta região. Esse achado da RM confirma o diagnóstico da síndrome de Shy-Drager e permite diferenciá-la da hipotensão ortostática idiopática, particularmente na fase de início da SSD quando os sinais de comprometimento do SNC são discretos ou estão ausentes.34234

Amiodarone neuropathy clinico-pathological study of two cases

Two patients, a 40-year-old woman and a 75-year-old man, were investigated due to a chronic polyneuritis. Amiodarone was used by them to treat refractory cardiac arrythmia since 4 and 6 years before, respectively. The EMG study showed an axonal neuropathy. The light and electronmicroscopical study of sural nerve displayed a losse of large myelinated fibers and a marked reduction of unmyelinated axons, associated with osmiophilic lamellated inclusions in Schwann cells and endothelial venulae. The interruption of amiodarone therapy improved neuropathy. Considered together with similar reports in perhexiline neuropathy and with chloroquine induced neuropathy this would stress the importance of these new drug-induced neurolipidosis.Dois pacientes, uma mulher de 40 anos e um homem de 75 anos, apresentavam polineurite sensítivo-motora, cujo único antecedente era o uso de amiodarona há 4 e 6 anos respectivamente. O ENMG revelou quadro neuropático tipo axonal. A biópsia do nervo sural mostrou rarefação axonal, mielínica e amielínica, bem como inclusões lamelares osmiofílicas nas células de Schwann e no endotélio venular. Com a retirada da amiodarona houve regressão da polineurite. À semelhança do que foi descrito na neuropatia pelo maleato de perhexiline e pela cloroquina, a amiodarona constitui importante fator de indução de neuro-lipidose medicamentosa.47447
