Assessing Negotiation Outcomes Matters in Classroom Settings

    Get PDF
It is hardly disputable that negotiation outcomes count in real world negotiation settings. In classroom settings, however, the negotiation outcomes often do not count. In many negotiation courses, for the negotiators it does not really matter in any tangible dimensions what kind of outcomes they achieve through the negotiation – not only that they do not need to bear the (hypothetical) consequence of the agreement (or its lack of), but also that the negotiation outcomes do not affect their performance assessment in the negotiation course. Thus on the issue of whether negotiation outcomes count, this type of class-room negotiation is drastically different from those in real world settings. But does that difference really matter? Would it make any difference in terms of student learning? These are the question the current study aims to address

Experience of Foreign Higher Education Service Trade and Its Enlightenment to China

With China’s entry into WTO, China’s trade in higher education services has developed rapidly. In addition to the highly developed economy, the broad market prospect has attracted more and more foreign students. However, China’s current trade in higher education services is still at the initial stage of development, showing an obvious trade deficit. From the perspective of international comparison, this study combs the development process of education service trade in major developed countries, summarizes the general rules and basic modes of its development, discusses various factors that affect the competitiveness of its national education service trade, thus analyzing the development characteristics and international competitiveness of education service trade in major developed countries, and summarizing the relevant experience and enlightenment of the development of education service trade in major developed countries. On this basis, the current situation of China’s higher education service trade is comprehensively combed, the main problems existing in China’s higher education service trade are analyzed, and reasonable ways to improve the competitiveness of China’s higher education service trade are put forward from aspects of perfecting the legislative content of higher education service trade, formulating development plans and policies, and strengthening the construction of education service institutions themselves

Influences of spin accumulation on the intrinsic spin Hall effect in two dimensional electron gases with Rashba spin-orbit coupling

In a two dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit coupling, the external electric field may cause a spin Hall current in the direction perpendicular to the electric field. This effect was called the intrinsic spin Hall effect. In this paper, we investigate the influences of spin accumulation on this intrinsic spin Hall effect. We show that due to the existence of boundaries in a real sample, the spin Hall current generated by the intrinsic spin Hall effect will cause spin accumulation near the edges of the sample, and in the presence of spin accumulation, the spin Hall conductivity will not have a universal value. The influences of spin accumulation on the intrinsic spin Hall effect in narrow strips of two dimensional electron gases with Rashba spin-orbit coupling are investigated in detail.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure

Rethinking Peace-Building in East Asia: The Case of Japan’s Struggle over History in Postwar Era

What is the relationship between the museum and the state? More precisely, in what way does the publicly sponsored museum reflect efforts by the state to expand its power at large? And how do its efforts contribute to the transformation of a nation's identity? These questions have recently begun to be raised not only in the Western context, but also among Asian countries. In Japan, as in most countries, the museum is not just a neutral public space where visitors come to view paintings, sculptures, or valuable cultural and historical heritages. As with other aspects of Japanese cultural life, the museum has become highly politicized in recent years. Both in their conceptual foundations and contents, Japanese museums established in the postwar era reflect very specific political ends. This paper focuses on one peace museum, which is an important tool for peace-building, Peace Osaka, established in Japan’s second largest city, to examine how Japan’s national identity has transformed politically and socially in the postwar era. By comparing different memories of war created in different periods in this public museum, we understand how a nation attempts to reconstruct its national identity through the process of selecting historical facts to exhibit in the museum. Furthermore, through the examination of historical controversy in East Asia, we will understand how a nation deals with its conflicting national narratives in the global era

China, Japan, and the United States in World War II: The Relinquishment of Unequal Treaties in 1943

This paper aims to examine how the United States transformed its foreign policy to promote China as an “equal state” in international politics during World War II, with focus on the process of the American relinquishment of its unequal treaties with China in 1943. In particular, it concentrates on analyzing the conflicts between the United States and Japan in the process of relinquishment. By examining the rivalry between the United States and Japan in the social warfare – propaganda – we can see that the relinquishment of the unequal treaties in 1943 not only marked a historical turning point in America’s China policy, but also had a great impact on the transformation of East Asian politics in World War II and its influence in the world politics

Delivery Device and Method for Forming the Same

    Get PDF
A delivery device includes a hollow container, and a plurality of biodegradable and/or erodible polymeric layers established in the container. A layer including a predetermined substance is established between each of the plurality of polymeric layers, whereby degradation of the polymeric layer and release of the predetermined substance occur intermittently. Methods for forming the device are also disclosed herein

Effects of Insecticides on Pest Populations and Their Natural Enemies in Soybean Field

In the 5-time field experiments and broad demonstrations, effects of volume and application formulae of several pesticides on the population densities of major inset pests and natural enemies in the soybean field were determined. Results from the Ducan’s multiple range test indicated that 300 g/ha of Omethoate (fine granule) and 45 g/ha of Fenvalerate in the seedling stage and 300 g/ha of Chloromethiuron suspensoid in the flowering stage may control pests and protect major natural enemies. Application of these pesticides in the corresponding soybean stages is an effective way that mediates the conflict between chemical and biological controls in the field. There are over 170 species of natural enemies whose hosts are known in the soybean field in China. These natural enemies play important roles in controlling the soybean pests. However, farmers still strongly rely on chemicals to control these pests because natural enemies are not able to timely curb the pest infestations when there is a pest outbreak. Frequent chemical application in a higher volume will ruin the ecological balance. The conflict between biological and chemical controls has become a hot issue in the soybean production worldwide. Our objectives in this study are to decide the effective low concentrations of commonly used pesticides, determine the effect of the third and fourth generations of pesticides on the major insect pests and natural enemies in the soybean field and propose feasible control methods by coordinating control and chemical controls.Originating text in Chinese.Citation: Qi, Yaoxun, Ma, Zhengquan, Shan, De'An, Gao, Xiaohua, Wang, Qisheng.
